The influence of uncertainty and unpredictability during the Weimar period cannot be underestimated. Given the German predilection for order and stability, many people just wanted the social, economic and political chaos to stop. 14:32

Since selling his soul to the DW JP has betrayed a lack of understanding on many of his takes, from Ukraine to Palestine and China. He seemed a man of scruples when standing up for free speech and against compelled speech, but his moral compass seems to be suffering from the influence of some external magnetic field - is it as simple as the cash, or some more fundamental psychotic break related to the stress of fame, etc.?

He always shied away from certain questions even though Solzhenitsyn is one of his favourites.

    First, thank you for suggesting
"Babylon Berlin". I've binge-watched every season this past weekend.
The writing, acting and production value is stunning.
Carefully edited, this T.V. series could easily have been a feature film. Each character was developed meticulously.
I'm sure the conversation between Ferguson and Peterson will be cringe-worthy.
J.P. likes to appear to have knowledge and a deep understanding of subjects that are way out of his territory. Ferguson, who I had admired, seems to have abandoned his role as an academic. Now, it appears he's become a shill for the establishment political propaganda machine.
I'll try to get through this conversation for as long as I can stomach it! Keep up the great work. RS

Historical fiction like, war and peace, wolf Hall and others are exceptional paths into history. Thanks for this recommendation.

I don’t care what Jordan Pattinson say.. he has a knack for talking about scheisse he doesn’t understand.. but thank you very much for pointing to that series!! I’m in episode 2 and I find it amazing!! It feels so authentic and much better than most period pieces I’ve seen so far .. it’s like HBO’’s Rome but more refined..

Ol' JP is wrong on quite a few things, but he sure can dress real nice now that he's rich and famous. Babylon Berlin is a fabulous show, regardless. Extremely interesting time period; makes one want to read something on it, unlike ol' JP. On the ABC program The Century, with Peter Jennings (1990 or so), an American who had been in Germany in the early '30s (or maybe a touch earlier, before a real presence of the Nazi party) recalled that Berlin was his favorite city he'd been to, which included London/Paris/NYC. Said it was more cosmopolitan and sophisticated than those.

The books are infinitely superior to the TV series (10 books by now). Thus, the TV series is a let down. However, the TV production is still superior to 95% of other TV shows.

I am going to read those books when I get there on the list. I hear the last season of the TV series is coming in late 2025!

Let me guess, it's a show that depicts the leftists in a sympathetic light?

"Envy" for what? There's nothing to being a trash-talker way outside his area of expertise like JP. He has no pertinent qualifications. Your admiration for him isn't an argument for anything.
He routinely makes statements about things he never studied which anyone with actual expertise will relatively easily recognize as nonsense.
Anything he says beyond clinical psychology is no more valuable than that from John down at the bar.
