    Oh sweet Dr., how valuable this video is. I am 63, live in cold, dry Maine and every inch of me is always dry. If my lips aren't cracked and bleeding, my fingers are. The wrinkles on my face of course look worse because there is no glow, no bouncy moisture! I am going to try every item you suggested, thank you. Have a beautiful day💝

      I literally tried everything she recommended and it's ALL worth it. This has been one of the best videos for the most helpful tips for dry skin. The lanolin and humidifier have been my absolute favorites. I put the lanolin everywhere. The butt paste I had on hand because I have a daughter but I had used a product that I ended up having an allergic reaction to and my skin barrier was completely compromised. I slathered up that night and by morning, my skin was 95% healed. It didn't hydrate my skin, it just really healed my skin barrier... Way better than Vaseline.

    Oh my gosh i watched one of your winter skincare routines two years ago and the humidifier hack saved my skin. I went to college and experienced painfully dry skin and bloody noses for the first time after having really oily skin my whole life. I got my first humidifier at Goodwill for $10 and now i have an even bigger one that i also got second hand and it is a necessity for me ❤

    This video is even better than I expected. I didn’t follow it exactly, but I used what I have and followed the general principles. I applied kerasal, urea cream, and cerave healing ointment on my hands last night then wore nitrile gloves. It was amazing for my bone-dry hands. I’m interested in getting a humidifier now!

    I’ve always brushed my lips after brushing my teeth to exfoliate and I’ve never ever had a problem with dry flaky lips. I’ve been doing this for almost 30 years now. Taught my daughters this hack and they’ve been doing it for years without issues for dry lips as well. Don’t waste money on useless exfoliating lip products. Just use your toothbrush 😊

    I was rewatching this and ended up down a rabbit hole of hypochlorous acid products. I never realized that was what was in the wound cleanser I used several years ago. Some brands on Amazon sell a gallon for about the same price as a bottle of the wound cleanser. Do you think you could do a short video on how to choose a good hypochlorous acid to use for cleaning the mister and maybe even some of the other ways you use hypochlorous acid? It seems to have a multitude of uses. Thank you for your videos. They are very informative.

    I have hopelessly oily skin but its getting super dry here in Dec. Ill list a couple things i changed in my routine to keep my skin hydrated.
    1. Since i use retinol n niacinamide serums, my skin got super dry during winter. Switched to a gentle cleanser for DRY skin.
    2. Mixing my niacinamide serum with moisturizer instead of direct application to clean dry face
    3. Vaseline around mouth, eyes and lips every night (and day). After brushing ur teeth lightly brush ur lips every morning
    Hope this is helpful to anyone reading^.^

Leave it on the lips for 5 minutes and wash it (wash, not lick!) with warm water. It works like magic and is a natural product.

    Thanks. In 2017 I started noticing my hand would burn when I washed them, then I noticed tiny little cuts on the back of my hands. I associated it with me washing my hands ferociously in the winter then walking out in Chicago winter cold. It developed into rash like texture. I started applying lotion after washing hands. This year I’m supplying these techniques. Thankfully I’m working from Home, so not exposed as much.

  • @mmmmmmolly

    The working hands cream is fantastic, i saw a difference all day after one application at night, and the best part is that it absorbs quickly and doesn’t leave a greasy residue, nor a powdery one. Somw cold creams (i.e Avene) leave my hands feeling powdery, and i don't like that.

    My skincare consists in:
    Morning
    - Cleansing with plain water and Konjac sponge
    - Toner
    - Vitamin C or AHA/BHA serum, one every other day
    - Sunscreen
    Evening:
    - Cleanse or double cleanse (depends on what I have done during the day)
    - Toner
    - Retinaldehyde serum
    - Moisturizer
    I know I could skip toner but I LOVE using mine. Every product is korean/japanese with the exception of retinal which is Eu brand. The only thing that I changed in winter is using eye cream before sunscreen and a "fatter" lipstick. So far so good... I'm into skincare since 8 months and the changes are BIG 😍
    Also, stop following skinfluencers if you do and only listen to dermatologist like Dr. Idriss. They give the best advice without showing you new super trendy products every day. You don't need them!

    • @foreverconfusedandkindacute
      @foreverconfusedandkindacute Рік тому +2

      honestly though only skinfluencers i watch are really like derms and medical estheticians and chem PHDs... you know who I'm talking about 👀 lol
      but can you please tell me wth even defines a toner anymore? like in general "serums" are usually considered whatever has active ingredients, so like chemical exfoliants, active ingredient forward products and retinoids are called serums. but what are toners and essences while we're at it... is an essence just a mist of moisturizing liquid? is a toner just a moisturizer? im so lost and i've been trying to find answers for months but it varies person to person and brand to brand lol.

    • @notme8152
      @notme8152 Рік тому

      @@foreverconfusedandkindacute haruharu wonder for toner (which is more like an essence), oil cleanser and moisturizer, Beauty of Joseon Sunscreen and glow serum, Some by Mi AHA BHA serum, Iunik foam cleanser, Rohto Vitamin C.

    • @notme8152
      @notme8152 Рік тому

      @@crunchevo8974actually I love to use the toner/essence to put a thin layer on my skin and let it dry before using retinaldehyde at night. I feel like it's more delicate. Also, in the morning I feel it really calms my skin before putting on acids or vitamin c... So to me, it's a thin barrier between the skin and the actives which can be harsh on sensitive skin.

    3:06 Giiiiirrrrl. We do have oil glands on our lips. They are called fordyce glands, and they are different from those regular glands associated with hair follicules.

    • @shereeneidriss
      @shereeneidriss  Рік тому

      Not sure if you by giiiirll or boyyyy but here goes:
      Fordyce spots are small, raised, pale or white-yellow bumps that can appear on the lips as well as other parts of the body. They are actually ECTOPIC sebaceous glands, which means they are sebaceous glands that develop in an UNUSUAL location where sebaceous glands don't typically exist.
      These spots are a normal and common variation of human anatomy. While the lips themselves do not have sebaceous glands as part of their regular structure, Fordyce spots represent sebaceous glands that have developed in the wrong place. PLUS they don’t secrete enough sebum to make your lips “oily” hence why a BHA wouldn’t be ideal to baste with.

    The amount of relief I felt when you lifted up that rose water... I used to be huge into using rose water in my skin, but I could only find it in my local International food store. I remember reading something about how a lot of "food grade" products couldn't actually do "enough" for you skin or something like that, so I got super hesitant about it and stopped using it. I consider this an endorsement though, lol, and I'm definitely going to start using it again.

      My skin hates winter, and my eczema gets worse. The best trick I've found, in addition to regularly moisturizing right out of the shower on damp skin, is using a humidifier. Dry air sucks the life out of my skin, so returning moisture to the air in my house makes an enormous difference.

    La Roche Posay Cicaplast b5 is my savior this autumn, it perfectly calms my sensitive skin down. I don't necessarily get rid of some red-ish areas but they definitely feel more numb (no burning, itching or other uncomfortable feeling).
    The only negatives I find with this product are that sometimes I wake up with little bumbs on my cheeks or forehead, I really had to tone down the layer of this product. Which also takes me to another negative part, and thats washing it off in the morning - it's pretty much imposible to wash it off with just water, the thin white layer of it stays glued to my skin making it look white, especially around my eyebrows and my BEARD which I absolutely hate. I'm not a big fan of cleaning my face with something else but water in the morning. Especially if you add more products in the morning the skin will start looking just off.
    Also not a great dayly cream either since it makes me look even more, almost unhealthy, pale. And the last negative is using it a day or two after exfoliating - especially if you peel like me, again, the cream sinks into the peeling skin and makes the peeling extremely noticable because it makes the flaking skin look white.

    The dry hands hack is fantastic. I have trouble reapplying hand lotion.Applying hand cream at night after the day is done and wearing gloves to sleep is easiest thing to do

      I used to do that when I was working in a fast food restaurant. The heat of the plancha made my hands dry as F...k ! It got so dry I could even move my finger comfortably.

    First off, I love your channel! You're so refreshing and informative. If you happen to have seen any of my videos with your kids, you can see that my couch frame and cushions are starting to go! I've always taken good care of my skin but the structure is definitely in need of repair. I live in Los Angeles and would love to find a good dermatologist that I could trust here (I only wished you lived closer). Do you happen to know any you could recommend?

    Thank you so much for sharing your wisdom with us. I tell everyone I know about your channel. I use plain coconut oil on my lips every night and Skin Food during the day. In the Pacific Northwest you have to keep those lips covered!

    Dr. Idriss!! Please think about using shower caps on your feet instead of saran wrap! Or the plastic bags without the zip lock parts. That's what I used at band camp a million years ago and now use them to help soften my feet! XOXO

    Hiii can you please do a video about when it’s medically necessary to get a dermatologist’s opinion. I know a lot of people go to the dermatologist for aesthetic purposes but I’d appreciate knowing when I should worry about my skin.
