The Story of Benjamin Ferencz, the last living prosecutor of the Nuremberg trials. Just in his twenties - after landing on the beaches of Normandy, fighting in the Battle of the Buldge, and liberating various Nazi concentration camps - Ben became responsible for prosecuting members of the Einsatzgruppen death units, responsible for the deaths of over one million innocent people during the Nazi invasion of Russia.
The short film is directed by Indianapolis-based filmmaker Ashton Gleckman, who was 18 years old when he traveled to Florida to interview Ben at his home. The interview in this documentary was filmed for Ashton's feature-length documentary, We Shall Not Die Now:

Ben passed away on April 7th, 2023, at the age of 103. He lived a remarkable life dedicated to peace and justice and it was an honor to have had the opportunity to meet him and film this interview. An amazing and inspiring life he lived, and an astounding legacy that will live on.
And I spent four hours driving him and his wife home from Boston to New Rochelle New York . A common man like me ! He told me so much ..

🤡 ~ Look at what all this guy did with his life, and then we have Trump who falsely claimed he had bone spurs, insults prisoners of war, insults Goldstar families, etc. I truly say this with only sadness in my heart, I cannot believe so many people insult President Obama by saying he was going to try to unconstitutionally run for third term as president yet they enthusiastically back Trump.
We all have to be careful to get information from credible sources and be careful not to keep ourselves in a bubble where we only get information from similar sources. Our worldview could be distorted. This absolutely does not just apply to right wing viewpoints, but I will point out that Fox News lawsuits have recently uncovered text messages and other evidence that proves Fox News hosts were lying about “the big lie“ and they all knew they were lying. And it’s so easy as human beings to pick a side and stay with that side by looking for confirmation bias. It’s often hard to admit that we could’ve picking the wrong president to enthusiastically support. It’s hard to admit we could be fooled. Obviously I have an opinion about the liar in chief, but I accept that I could be wrong. The one a sidenote, one thing I I think is much less likely that I’m incorrect on our several horrible things that Trump has done and that his supporters could still support him and insist that they hold him accountable when he was in office to tell him there’s certain standards a president needs to live up to in order to restrain the president and keep us all safe from an out-of-control president of any belief and any party.b

When my nieces were eight and four, I sent out Christmas cards of peace to notable leaders. The first person to respond to these little girls was this man. My elder niece is now 21 has completed her pre-law to human rights. When you empower people with kindness it creates a ripple effect, thank you ever so much for your lovely note and kindness Mr Ben Ferencz

It is sad that I only learned of him because he just died. There are very few lives about which one thinks that person did everything he could. There are very very few people who are genuine heroes and inspirations.

He lived a long, happy, well deserved life. This man worked tirelessly to bring justice and peace to the world, and died at the ripe age of 103 with 4 kids after a long, happy marriage of more than 7 decades. What a man.
What’s your idea of justice and peace? Justice was not served. And peace was definitely not preserved.
What we saw in the Nuremberg trials were a kangaroo trial with the verdicts already decided well before they began.
These are the beautiful things I love.
Ben Ferencz was one of my personal heroes. His intelligence, moral sense, enthusiasm for good, and incredible resilience made him a light of hope in a dark and chaotic world. I wept when he died last month.

I actually went to the courthouse these trials occured in, it's still an active courthouse but they dedicate an entire floor as a museum to the trials. It's very interesting to see the full story.

I could not find anything about the rollercoaster but just a little research shows that the "masturbation machines" were false claims from an Australian who was not actually in the holocaust, the "skin lampshades" were likely unknown to the majority of the Nazis with there only being one incident of their creation by a sadistic individual and the "soaps made out Jews" were a rumor likely circulated by the Nazis to frighten camp inmates.
I feel like Ben underplayed his own brilliance as an old man. You can see in 12:37 how well he spoke and how confident he was.
Wow, what an impressive mind, sharp as a tack at 100, no hesitation in his speech, no searching for words, no long pauses or slow speech. And his voice! Sounds like a 50 year old half his age! Moving story.

Schools exist to train good employees, not to enrich the individual. That's why you're not taught how to become rich, how to handle your assets, etc. You're also not taught how to become self-sufficient, produce your own food, build your shelter, etc. You're taught how to help rich people handle their assets, you're taught how to respect authority and be subservient...
It’s fascinating that it seems he never deliberately sought out to participate in any of the events and situations he found himself in. Like his life was being led by an outer force and he was just along for the ride, and he took it all by the reigns day by day and became a prominent figure of world history. Truly amazing and inspiring.

Whenever I feel tired with the situation we are in right now in politics, I come back to watch this video. Thank you so much for making this short doc. It needs more views.
My grandmother was a survivor of the Battle of Manila. She hid underground for 3 years during the Japanese occupation. She was 12 yrs old when imperial Japan occupied the city. When the Americans returned, the Japanese massacred everyone they can see before the Americans can retake the city. The Americans bombed the hell out of the city though leveling it to the ground killing those who survived the Japanese massacre.
Fortunately before that happened they escaped to the forest-mountains east of Manila but not before his father, two older brothers, and an older sister died. My grandma, her mother and her younger sister was the only ones that survived.
WW2 seemed like a distant past from a bygone era as a Millennial but god damn hearing my grandmother experienced and went through it really put things into perspective. Hope this relative peace we are experiencing right now persist for another thousand year. A world war today would probably have hundreds of millions if not billions of casualties.
My grandmother is 92 now, had covid last May and survived, love you grandma.

Truly sorry to hear about those experiences. War truly is hell. Many American veterans of the Korean War remember the horror of the battles of Seoul, where street to street and house to house fighting led to a number of civilians being caught up in the battle. Unclear if it was a human shield attempt or just wrong place at the wrong time, but either way it was horrific.
My grandma lived in panay island when the japanese occupied, She was around 8 or 9 at 1944. She said she loved seeing the planes at the sky, but her grandpa usually scolded her to go back inside the house because it is too dangerous, She never knew that the japanese occupied, all she knew was there was a bunch of "angry" soldiers, with bayonets on plain sight, usually bayonetting their livestocks and burning crops to "find hidden weapons". The japanese also slept in and took valuable things in their house, Japanese soldiers also very often came by because their was a river near by, Most of them were probably conscripted koreans since they weren't very barbaric and usually played with my grandma. She didn't really have any bad memories with the japanese soldiers which i think is very fortunate.

Wow! I loved this video. im 58 and my dad was a 14 yr old boy taken from his farm in Poland by the Nazi Soldiers. I heard stories between him and my German mother at the dinner table, pretty much daily. I just decided now to take a look at what was happening. They are both dead now. @@harkmay While he didn't go to the US, Otto Skorzeny led a pretty colorful life after his time in the SS. There's stories not from common western media but from Isreal itself, that he worked for the Mossad after the war, to assassinate one of von Braun's previous coworkers in Egypt. The stories may or may not be true, but it lines up considering that he was given a quite nice offer of being an advisor for the Egyptian military, yet he refused.

Wow! So incredibly alert, articulate and fluid in his speech and movement. It sounds like he’s had a good life but he deserves to have had so. And the icing on the cake is that he’s passed his experience and recollections on to even more future generations.

Are you at all familiar with the Nuremberg trials? The ones where they scapegoated all the Bolshevik crimes on fuehrer and Germany
Imagine being 25 years old and doing this. Being one of the prosecutors and presenting your case at 25. There were people like him that all stepped up. All those 95, 96, 98 year old were at one point 18,19, 21 fighting against evil because they knew they had to do it.

@barnabyjoy there are many injustices going on and people are still using 'just following orders' as an argument. if you dont see it in the covid restrictions then maybe you can see it in the growing inequality, police violence or the wars in the Middle East and everything that results from it. Although the situations are vastly different I feel that the lesson that we are always accountable for our own actions is often forgotten.
This man, oh my goodness, how clear is his mind, his memory, his speech at 100 years old. I’m not going to even bother to compare him with someone we know that doesn’t even know how to give a speech. What he did and his principles are amazing. Admirable man. God bless him and let him live more. It’s saddening that we are seeing gray days now and they are becoming darker. I think History will repeat itself and not just because of religions. We are seeing it already. It’s just a matter of time.

At 100 years old, in this video, he is more together than the average 60 year old of today. Considering what he witnessed that is some achievement. I read a book recently, the Nuremburg interviews, very enlightening to say the least. People really need to read more about what happened in history to enable clarification on what's happening now. My girlfriend teaches at an elementary school. A couple of weeks ago she mentioned something about Auschwitz...it turns out none of her colleagues...people with university degrees in charge of teaching the new generation, knew what Auschwitz or Nuremberg was. I think they knew about concentration camps and kind of knew what had happened...but to think that scholars, in charge of teaching the new generation don't even have a clue what these names and places were is frightening to me. I understand that their students probably study WWII and other historical tragedies when they're a bit older, but the fact that they fail to remember such names and events shows an infuriating gap in their education or at least what they remember from their education. We need to keep talking about this, and not only this, but other atrocities and war crimes as well. I know this is a phrase that is a bit of a cliché, but "those who refuse to learn from history are doomed to repeat it" are words that we should all keep in mind.

They are "programmed" what to think and given degrees for being able to count to ten and write their names.

I live in UK & it's the same here.
In Nazi Germany, I believe people were told that Jews and others carried dangerous diseases eg diphtheria and that Germans weren't immune to these diseases and would die. So they must be separated from rest of society in a "holiday" camp.
The Germans agreed to this out of fear of getting sick & dying.
Meanwhile if you argued against this, you were a traitor and unpatriotic etc.
