"Last Man" is the first proper horror-fantasy story I wrote, the first one creepypasta posted (it was the least horror-ish thing I submitted, so no high hopes), and it was conceived during mindless work at a minimum wage job. The fact that it has this many views and a professional narration at all is proof of miracles. Whether much of it ends up seeing the light of day, this eventually spawned a huge, sprawling mythology. Kudos to Dark Somnium for getting it this far. Hopefully, I can continue what I started calling the ZNU for anyone that enjoys it!
thanks for writing the story my guy! keep up the great work
Please do, I’m in love with your stories!
This story was one of the most interesting stories I have ever heard, period. It was so...different, it really pulled me in. I would read a whole fantasy novel about this world.
Please continue, the universe you created is truly magical!
Great job
I love it when creepypastas have actual titles and not “I was on a trip in the desert and my guide told me the craziest story”
that trope comes from r/nosleep, where the meta is that you're writing the story as if you are making a reddit post about a real event that happened/is happening to you.
Yes, well said! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
"a man with an impossibly wide grin hired me to sit inside a dark room at 3am and there is a strange set of rules i have to follow"
@@JaoGamerYT okay, not gonna lie. I’d listen to that story regardless of title.
Don't forget the list of strange rules.

That's how you can get certain how well this was written and performed. By the end, i forgot totally it was a campfire story being told. Absolute masterpiece
Now I’m convinced Dark is teasing me. I’m convinced he’ll never release the track he uses at the very beginning of the story. It’s so atmospheric and ominous

Im like an auto clicker whenever I see that you made a new video. These videos are so good is unbelievable
I've always loved the more religious themed stories. They're always intriguing
Mythology is fascinating
Mythology hits a little closer to home for me. Stories based on the tales of old tend to strike a nerve in my psyche. Our ancestors told many stories of beasts and men in the night, and to be weary
Agreed.
Religion is pure evil made by man but that doesn't mean you can't learn from it. I can tell you that Mythology comes from an actual place, a realm called Mythos, that's where man gets the name from.
@@tasteslikeacid7804 in my oppinion it is undeniable that supernatural exists, hoever no one has exact explanation what we are dealing with, people just assume what they see based on apearances and give them names, but in truth we have 0 idea what we are dealing with when it comes to supernatural stuff

Could you please tell me or explain what happened then at the end 😳? I'm in a pickle here because this is my favorite story and I'm so akin for an answer of how the story truly ends
The pre bronze age eastern cities had a localized god that protected their cities. This reminds me the history and the story of Akadians
Akadians? Is that a good story?
@@atlast000 From the Wiki: "The Akkadian Empire was the first ancient empire of Mesopotamia after the long-lived civilization of Sumer. It was centered in the city of Akkad and its surrounding region. The empire united Akkadian and Sumerian speakers under one rule."
This was an empire that existed before the great pyramids were built.
@@soliel5680 now that is a good story to tell
@@atlast000 It really is!!!!! ^-^
So the goddess has the power to nuke the entire world in her wrath in the 1st scenerio but gets boned by an enemy army in the 3rd scenerio..yea 2+2=potatoe
That's the funniest part. I can just imagine how she came to the city and then in like a few seconds she gets killed like a bug. Lol.
i think you missed the point of the story. in the original timeline, the priest killed her before she could act, which is why she was "killed".
when sukaz shows the possible outcome of aser's action (of reviving the goddess), the first outcome is that she was wrathful and unleash her power and destroyed city as well as every city in and around the desert out of her vengeful anger towards humankind.
in the second outcome, because aser's believed the goddess is merciful, sukaz shows that the goddess will in fact, forgive their treachery and did not kill the townspeople, but instead one day the pride of the townsfolk will bring destruction toward others, which will eventually led to their own downfall.
in the final outcome, the goddess is merciful as it was in the second outcome, and the people of the city does not get consumed by the pride of being under the goddess watch, and the city grows prosperous. it will draw envy from the neighbour city, which led to the invasion.
the reason why she can be killed by the invading force is due to the assumption that she was merciful goddess, and could not bring herself to commit killing of the people that invaded (aka pacifist) the same reason why she did not kill the people in the city after her revival. this is because the nature of these beings, which is rather one dimensional, unlike human beings. she can be either wrathful, or peaceful. good or bad etc. sukaz, a demon, his sole purpose is to corrupt, which is why he outright refused to kill aser. same thing can be assumed for the goddess, she cant kill because it's not in her nature to kill humans (from the assumption that she's the merciful kind). which led to her getting killed instead.
@@far_centrist Well, there's that, but there's also just the very likely and, at least in my opinion, more probable scenario that the demon, being an unreliable narrator for obvious reasons, simply was stretching the truth or lying to some extent. Generally, its a pretty good rule in fiction that whenever villains are trying to give their 'Join the Dark Side' pitches or similar, that you don't take what they say 100% seriously. The better ones, like this guy, won't usually outright lie per say, but they are obviously not to be trusted, either. Its likely, in the case of the different fates for the city, that he was simply stretching things on some level to make Aser fall into despair.
I'm highly doubtful that much of what the demon said was true, so much as LITERALLY playing devil's advocate and giving scenarios in which no matter what choice he made, it would lead to a bad end. Therefore he never has to lie, he just has to show speculation, which is why in desperation he told the truth in the end of the "Goddess" being the spirit of the city. The craftiest devils never lie, nor do they even need to stretch the truth, they just spread doubt and let you do the rest.
@Nishank Pandey not everything imperialist is US, there's soviet style aka invading and then g-word people via starvation, then there's ancient middle-eastern style where they kill every man, and do unspeakable things to the women and children, or there is the much more common kill everyone g-word style where they just kill everyone.
This was one of the best stories I’ve ever heard. Everything about its presentation is absolutely amazing 11/10
These are the kind of stories it would be great to hear more of. Proper stories with horror and suspense and fantasy. This, the fifth trumpet, and the other story in the same universe as this one that you did a few videos up, I can't think of the title. These are great stories for a narration channel of dark somniums quality with the sound design that brings it to life.
I'd also like to see a bit more of back to the older days type horror stories. Like the world under my bed story, the found video tapes story, the guard of a secret prison story, the internet survey story, the year in the social credit experiment story, the tales of the dark web story and other dark web stories, etc. Those are some of the most interesting, unsettling and legitimate stories on this channel. I still listen to them all but some just stand above all the rest.
There needs to be a sequel that tells how the city was actually lost. That story was excellent not so much as scary as enticing
The final scenario seems like the most likely. The city gradually fading away and becoming lost to time seems to fit with it's. I imagine it was involved in World War Zero or a world-shattering cataclysm, it's existence wouldn't have been in question.
i felt like i was there with the main character really well done
This story might be one of the best stories I have a ever had the pleasure to listen to. Not only is it amazingly written, creating beautiful scenery and atmosphere, the social commentary paired with religious criticism is amazing. It might be a topic that has been used quiet commonly, but the skillful way it has been written makes it stand a fantasy story on its own and doesn't exclusively support itself on being smarter than the reader/ listener.
Not to forget the narration, sound effects and music. I have been subscribed for a long time now to this channel and it is beautiful to see how far you've come. Not only did you develop a great feeling for picking fitting music, that is not distracting and pulls you very much in, but also all those subtle sound effects really pull things together. The way you interpret certain character lines and stress their words makes it almost seem like there are multiple people voicing things even tho you talk in the same tone. You really chose an amazing story and perfectly understood the assignment while adding your own brand and personality to the video.
I will definitely make sure to check the author out. Hopefully they have some book released or you will pair up more with you in the future!
If someone could point out videos with this authors stories on the channel. I'd gladly rewatch them. :D
The very name of the story caught me, and as it kept going I just got more and more into it, it was amazing. Thank you

DUDE! THIS WAS EASILY ONE OF THE BEST STORIES IVE HEARD ON YOUR CHANNEL, MAYBE EVEN ON UA-cam. That was incredibly enjoyable! If you haven't yet, you REALLY need to check out the novella "Tortured Souls: The Legend Of Primordium" by Clive Barker, easily one of his greatest creations. So the future where the faithful dude is in prison and the goddess stays dead and never kills the demon and the city dies is what really happened? The demon was right?
I mean everything's bound to decay after a few thousand years or so, so who knows
@@matei3880 well at the end he made sure to say the forgotten city so it sounds like it never hit its golden age and leave a mark on the world
No it just means that neither outcome was going to matter in the long run. “Round the decay of that colossal wreck, boundless and bare, the lone and level sands stretched far ahead.”
@@MeatyOchre well didn't the story say that if the last man of faith awakens the goddess that she would then slay the demon? And the demon isn't dead?
@@HalcyonEX fair point. Maybe it wasn’t the same demon tho. And it was called the last man of faith, implying there weren’t any anymore in the present time. Maybe I was wrong in thinking erosion of everything over time/ mans greed and destructiveness.
