Wow, thank you! Come on back, the grass really is greener on this side. All you need is some agave and you're good to go, lol.

@@Starolfr I hear you! Bee colony collapse is terrible. The thing is, we are concentrating on the wrong bees. Native (non honey producing) bees are the ones that matter to our ecosystem. European imported Honey bees compete with native bees for resources and cause further native bee decline. Furthermore, honey bees are kept in crowded hives, the queen bee's wings are clipped so they cannot leave. This overcrowding facilitates virus and bacteria growth. Infected honeybees spread these diseases to native species.
Bees make honey to feed themselves over the winter, bee keepers take away these reserves and replace the honey with corn syrup which has none of the micro nutrients contained in honey, this further weakens the honeybees and makes them susceptible to illness. All of this added to the stress of driving them around from farm to farm makes it easy to see why honeybees are facing collapse.
I visited an organic vegetable farm that relies on native pollinators. They plant buckwheat and native flowers to attract pollinators. When I was there the sound of the bumblebees was deafening. It was amazing. My point is, if we plant with biodiversity in mind we won't need to exploit honey bees. (oh, let's not forget about pesticides, but that's another tangent)
My point is, eating honey doesn't benefit the bees or ecology. Advocate instead for native pollinators like moths, wasps, hummingbirds, bumblebees, butterflies, solitary bees, etc. They need all the help they can get. If, in the end you still want to eat honey but agree with not eating other animal products, you can call yourself Beegan and you'll still be a hero to animals. :)
