    I remember as a kid just under a few decades ago, whenever you ordered products online, it would take as much as a week or two, even a month to arrive. We don’t need so much stuff at lightning speed, especially if it’s at the risk of harming warehouse employees. At the end of the day, it’s just stuff.

    I’m a delivery associate who put in his 2 weeks with his current DSP because of all the same reasons why the warehouses are under investigation. Everything said from the people who work there is spot on. When you’re on their route, they expect you to shut your engine off at every stop, regardless of how freezing or scorching hot the temperatures are. The work loads we get are very ridiculous. I almost get 400 packages daily & sometimes without a step van because Amazon tells the companies what type of van a driver should have for their route. If I fail to shut the engine off at every single stop I’ll get terminated; there is no exceptions to these rules. Amazon is very inhumane with their staff in all aspects of their warehouse or delivery departments. I can’t wait to leave this company & move on.

      I am a FedEx Ground Driver. I had to start as an Amazon Driver in order to get FedEx; worked for a DSP for eight months. That was when I lived in Portland, Oregon. It was not a good job at all. Now, here at FedEx Ground, I do turn off my truck at every stop (which you should, for very valid reasons), and I have to deliver HUGE, HEAVY packages, including furniture. I get around 200 stops per day, and over 300 stops per day during peak season, while delivering much larger, heavier packages than with Amazon.
      But here is the difference. I have the same route every day. I know my area by heart. It makes me super efficient at the job, and allows me to blow through 200 stops in 7 hours. I don't have to sell my soul to a crappy app like the Amazon Flex app, which forced you to do a different route every day, and the stop order was horrific. Since I know my area, I can just look at my map, or list of stops, and travel to them without GPS. Also, there is no stupid E-mentor. That thing was a joke. I swear that Amazon used that as a way to cheat the system to slap contractors with financial penalties in the name of "safety." I also make 80K/year as a FedEx Ground driver here in Chicago.
      The job is more physically exhausting at FedEx Ground than with Amazon, but I am treated like a human being and my job is secure. I have my own route, I have a good team that feels like family, I have my own truck, and I have a set Tuesday-Saturday schedule. Amazon was so dysfunctional, so authoritarian, and so greedy. I have stopped buying anything from them since I left a few years ago. Honestly, if you have experience, look at FedEx Express or a FedEx Ground contractor (some contractors are terrible though, so do your research first). At least you will be paid better with far better working conditions while you figure out what you want to do with your life. Good luck my friend. :)

    used to workn with amazon. Remember being asked why it took so long to get to my station (10 min it should take from clocked in). The problem is that the warehouse is huge, the only entrance is on one side of the warehouse and my station is on the other. That and they wanted me to do at least 10 items every 10 seconds (with zero mistakes) minimum for 12 hours.

    This is true. I work at a fulfillment center and am often appalled at the disregard for safety. Piles of boxes on the floor, access to water and exits limited, fire hazards EVERYWHERE, people flailing limbs around to meet quotas while being within millimeters of dangerous machinery, and no security at entrance in case of active shooters. Anyone with a badge can waltz right in, fully armed. I always cringe at the thought of 2,000 people running all over machinery in attempt to escape fire or gunfire.
    They also go to great lengths to ensure employees do not speak to each other. If you are caught talking, esp related to a grievance, your computer will tell you “reassigned-go to station ___”.
    Lastly, there are people who have been working 50-60 hours a week for years and do not get health benefits. They get away with this by hiring only part-time employees but then encouraging them to “make more money! Pick up as many shifts as you want!”.
    Amazon is the #2 employer in the US. They have a responsibility to set a precedent for employment everywhere by abiding by laws and keeping people safe & happy.

      I work at a fulfillment center as well I have never seen a group of more hard-working dedicated individuals minus the management! Everyone busts their backsides off in extremely HOT warehouses and is subjected to unrealistic working conditions on a daily basis. You profusely sweat from the moment you punch in until you punch out. There wouldn't be a need to organize if there were better working conditions for all Amazon workers including those that are driving. Amazon is doing this to themselves by ignoring what's going on at the bottom!

      Your fulfillment center sounds very different from mine. Working in outbound at JAX2 has been fine for myself. It’s safe, easy work, and no one’s ever been onto me for rate as long as you’re not making a ton of mistakes no one even comes to check up on you.
      I take bathroom breaks for at least 10 minutes at a time 3 times a day and never hear about how long I was gone, don’t have to tell anyone when I need to go either. My shifts are 10 hours long 4 days a week and we get two 30 minute breaks, as long as you aren’t more than 5 minutes late after break you won’t be warned or written up, which seems fair to me. They have chik fil a in our 1st floor break room certain days of the week.
      Our security gate when coming through the entrance has a high tech metal detector that even picks up the composite toe in Amazon safety shoes they give us because it detects not only metal but plastic explosives as well. No one’s getting through with a gun or knife undetected. We have a state trooper who’s parked at the building 24/7 that Amazon pays for sometimes two state troopers.
      I’ve never heard of part timers working 60 hour weeks. The most I’ve been scheduled as a full timer is 55 hours in a week which was five 11 hour shifts, this was during what they call “peak” which is around Christmas. Rarely am I ever called in for over time it’s all optional except for peak and prime week which is in July. Amazon has a policy where they will never schedule you more than 60 hours in a week.
      Amazon offers a lot of time off options . Annually you get 48 hours paid time off, 80 hours unpaid time off, 40 hours of vacation 1st year 80 hours 2nd year, they offer voluntary time off at work frequently which allows you to leave without using your accrued time off options. When you use your time off you don’t have to report to anyone, you just put the time in on the employee phone app and don’t even have to show up no one will be wondering where you are. I’ve used a full day of time off less than an hour before my shift starts dozens of times. I’ve woke up an hour before work and decided I needed a few more hours sleep and used 3 hours of paid /unpaid time.. I’ve left work early and used my time off, you are basically your own manager as long as you have time off to use. It’s not hot inside the warehouse it’s air conditioned 76 degrees throughout the place give or take 1 degree. Big fans everywhere and small personal ones too that you can move around if needed. As far as water goes you can’t even walk 50 ft in my department without coming across a nice cold water dispenser.
      Everyone’s situations different at Amazon. I’d highly recommend this job to anyone especially if you’re 18 you can be making over $30-40k a year starting with no high school education. I get to talk to people all I want as long as works getting done at the same time, the dress code is relaxed girls wearing yoga pants and guys wearing shorts and a tank top. Easiest job I’ve ever had and you pick your own schedule when you start, show up no interview at all take the drug test then you get your start date. If you’re highly introverted it’s the easiest hiring process for people like you.

  • @garybeltrand5802
    @garybeltrand5802 Рік тому +5

    They typically avoid any blatant "immediate danger" situations that any inspections would catch. However, management does regularly bend safety rules to increase productivity/speed. Which they would stop doing and pretend never happen if asked during an investigation. I remember the "fast" way to unload a truck onto a conveyor was to tip giant walls of boxes towards you and run out of the way. That was low-key expected by managers. If a manager saw usually they would ignore (cause it makes their numbers better), unless they were in the mood to yell at someone or write you up for a safety infraction. But then doing it the "safe" way - box by box, how they train you, would get you coached and written up for being too slow/low productivity (that's the pattern there, they always have you set up to get in trouble somehow). Then someone would tell you how you're "supposed" to do it on the downlow. They had "strict social distancing" for Covid, but outbound orders often build up on one line so they'd expect a dozen people to work shoulder to shoulder to keep it moving. Their "Covid Safety Inspectors" would walk by and not say a word. Absurd level of shadiness with their "covid safety" protocol, it was all for appearances sake. The main thing that causes injury is putting people who are not that healthy to begin with in "robot" roles where they'd some movement over and over until they pull, tear, twist, rupture, etc part of their body. Because people aren't robots. Elderly, overweight, and small weak people aren't meant to run up and down a ladder picking for 12 hour shifts while someone is cracking the whip on them over rate.

    My tendons are ruined working in the warehouse, I'm in so much pain I am afraid it won't get better. I work in stow and they treat us like dirt, they make us work so fast it's unsafe. They make us work 12 hours a day, 6 days a week leading up till Christmas. It's insane. My knees and elbow are blown and I'm only 33, never had issues before this job. 10 hours a day, no music or head phones allowed just the roar of the conveyor. We have to go through TSA style security coming and leaving work like we are criminals. I'm so stressed I can't even afford the doctor. They have no heart and we are too afraid and unsure of how to unionize. I love to write and my hands are so bad I cant do it anymore..

    I work at Amazon and hurt my shoulder again. They keep saying joint sprain or shoulder problems is not worker's comp covered because repetitive motion is in job description. I changed department and that department has heavy items up high that you have to lift from overhead. To take care of my health I'm in the process of looking for another job. Repetitive motions at fast speed takes its toll on the body. Feet pain will have you in tears as you walk to your car. They talk safety but have things taped together with tape. Electrical extension cords everywhere(trip hazard) Now it's peak season people running around fast with carts not paying attention to people walking and bumping into them. People wonder why people stay? The 5 letter word BILLS! My health has decline so much that it's time to move on. Glad they are investigating. The best way is to go undercover for 3 months. Amazon works for some people and the ones who can't deal with it usually leave within 1st year. It's an individual judgement.

    It takes all team effort in order to be in safe working environment. I would worry more about UPS and the drivers dying from heat stroke in the heat wave across the country. It is up to the management to monitor the workers and working conditions. The workforce from the past had to work harder and with much less say.

    I've work there for 5 and half yrs now. U only get 3 raises in 3yrs then u get a $1500 bonus for ur 5yr anniversary that TAXED so no more raises bonus rare. Prime day are crazy and so is peak season. Prime day we don't get extra pay just extra days to work which are mandatory, going from ur regular 40hrs to 50-60 hrs a week same for peak season but we get a little extra pay like $2-3 more. They have prizes for challenges but it's just makin u work hard so the numbers can add up. I work at a distribution center. It's a good and bad thing with Amazon. I stay because nobody will offer me better pay and the benefits are amazing. It's almost like I workout to get paid. Because I'm moving, sweating (it ac and heat @ my warehouse) and at least 20000-40000 steps a shift. Just kno ever Amazon warehouse is different... O I don't like how they hiring peak season(Christmas time) employees and give them more $$ hr and they get bonuses just for workin peck season($1000+bonuses) but us who been here awhile we don't get no bonuses. Them peak season employees only work between 1-3 mos. Some only weeks. I hope it different this yr.

The union store also hires people with disabilities like downs and mental health issues. Because of that, I'll always shop at that store than the one closer to me. Treat your employees well and people will notice. I bet if everyone got a glimpse of how Amazon workers are abused, they would loose customers.

    As a amazon worker I can only speak for the warehouse I work out of (CNY) and let me tell you not only are the workers safe but barely work haha not to mention this clip shows the buidings full of workers never happens at my location !
    Also everyone that works there is happy and nice so I'm guessing top management people are drilling their workers in some states and are to blame cause its not the core rules of amazon or it would be at every location.

    • @kevinfunes1815
      @kevinfunes1815 Рік тому +7

      I think it can also depend on what area and location of the country you are in. Not sure how CNY warehouses operate. However, I think if you ever had the chance to experience one of the warehouses here in Houston. You would be able to see what we have to go through. As a driver I was forced to deliver 400+ packages to the inner city with traffic and on MAJOR streets. I couldn't take a proper break because I never had time to, but still had to clock out for lunch because of the law. Cargo van was so full that I had to unload all the boxes and packages just so I could find one small package in one location. Then I had to do that for every stop through a good portion of the route. No driver wants to be out there from 9 am and get home by 11:00 pm when you have to be back in the early morning the next day. That's why they can't even take a break.
      Same was working in the warehouse. The numbers that Amazon would give the warehouse was inhumane. Almost 100,000 packages to deal with, and I couldn't even use the restroom because the moment we fell behind, we'd be forced to go even faster.

    • @kevinfunes1815
      @kevinfunes1815 Рік тому

      $20/hr? It's $16.50/hr in Texas. While it does depend on what side of the country you are in. For the amount of work Amazon makes you do, that's if you HAVE EVER worked in one of the busiest warehouses, $20.00 is not enough. Try handling 100,000 packages without being able to use the restroom or delivering 480 packages that you have to squeeze in and then unintentionally damage because their cargo vans are only meant to fit 280. See if you are able to leave the station at 9 am just to be back by 10 pm without a proper lunch break. Then be home by 11 pm, just to be at work the next morning. Amazon does not pay time and a half, you get same amount in overtime AND they still expect you to do more than what you're supposed to. Get an education or get a better job? The times we're in isn't that easy you know.
