I flew from NYC to my home in Adelaide, South Australia in 2011. It took 36 hours, with 2 short stopovers. I regularly fly from Adelaide to London, which takes at least 29hours. We Australians and New Zealanders really know what long haul is. It doesn’t stop most of us from travelling.
Longest long haul was 16 hours from Dubai back to Dallas, Texas. I have a over the pocket bag to put my snacks, tech and personal care items in so I am not constantly reaching for my bag under the seat. Amazing!
I have a travel blanket like that but it’s ~20 years old. I think it’s from Eddie Bauer. I’ve taken it on more road trips than flights but it’s definitely gotten used. A few times I’ve put it in a compression bag with a jacket or my socks, etc and it’s about 1/2 the size.
Foot Hammock! Short people, this thing is a game changer. If I were to forget mine at homee, I would happily pay airport prices just to have one. Two hours or 12 hours, I don't want to be without it.
A great travel aid I use are “ snug plug”. Little doo-hickies that insert into outlets that are loose so your plug doesn’t keep falling out . On the news lately in California they are saying that using just the cable at charging stations is unsafe- so use the full plug , but those are usually loose from over use. Not with a snug plug . Only don’t forget to take it with you. They come in a 10 pack for a little over $10. They glow in the dark too( not sure how that helps- but cool !) Try’em. Also a little hint- don’t eat sodium snacks - that causes fat ankles on long flights . They also make a travel size step stol that folds up so you can keep your feet elevated. Ok enough of my old fogie tricks. Happy traveling. Do looking forward to your Milan trip . Ciao!
This is a fantastic long haul must-have video! I have the travel blanket and while I haven't' used it on a flight yet, I've used it several times on car trips, both in the car as a pillow, and at hotels as an extra blanket. It will definitely be going with me on my next flight (which I hope will be to Italy!) Hope you have a fantastic time in Milan. New subscriber!
I love loop earplugs. I would not wear those pants. Because when you go to the bathroom they will touch the floor unless u roll them up. I just discovered joggers which hug your ankles.
For long haul flights to Asia most carriers provide a pillow and blanket even on economy seats. I usually don't carry neck pillows if I'm on that route because I find that it crowds my already cramped seat and I end up stashing it in my luggage anyway.
HI! Great video - thanks! We are flying from Boston to Sydney Australia on Thursday (20th) - 6 1/2 hours to SF and then 15 hr. 15 min to Sydney. Super long haul flight!! We flew to Indonesia a few years ago also super long! I have the Air Fly and am dying to use it with my Beats! I have a lightweight water bottle to fill.(I have heard not to use the water in the airplane restroom.). We are sitting in United Premium Plus, so I believe we will be getting a blanket and pillow. We also have very strict weight restrictions on one of our flights in Australia, so all of our packing had to be based on those restrictions! Big pain in the butt, but I think we did it!! Have my snacks and my little "necessary bag" with things we will need during the flight. Really looking forward to it!!
Excellent video. You are one of the few people that knows the name of the sleeve on the back of a bag-Trolley Sleeve! I always have a little inflight bag with your items and a few herbal tea bags. I’m off to Dubai from DC next year…..wish me luck! Just recently bought the Airfly…super handy.
Just found this video and now I'm bingeing more (maybe all of yours!) getting ready for France in August! Thank you! And also...I love your necklace in this one! Can you please share?
Great advice and recommendations, Dana. I will be traveling this summer and I have many of these essentials. I was going to wear jeans on the flight but those pants look quite comfy. What is the fabric of the pants? Are they enough to keep your legs warm on the flight? I am definitely getting that neck pillow - for sure! I might even get the ear buds and the 2 clear bags. Happy travels :)
Loved all of these…those earplugs look interesting and I might give them a try. I’ve tried the foamy ones and they don’t work for me. They start coming out of my ears. I need ones like these that you showed that will stay in the ear. Plus that foldable water bottle looks good too. I don’t bring any water bottles because I know they give you it to you on the plane..at least Delta does. So I just don’t like carrying extra stuff. However the fact that this one is foldable makes it appealing since it won’t take up space. Thanks so much Dana.
My long haul trips have been about 16 hours… instead of a toothpaste and toothbrush, you can bring disposable crest wisps (little disposable toothbrushes that have toothpaste in them) for a really easily quick clean!
Maybe a stupid question, but does tsa count the travel pillow and blanket as a carry on, do you just attach it to your carry on bag. I'm hoping to make a long trip soon. Thanks for sharing. Great video
They do not I just attach it to the bag with the snap on strap. You can also wear it before and after security if you would like although not necessary
Where did you get the sweat shirt and tie dye pants you have on in this video? Will you link your outfit in the description? They are super cute!! Also, I ordered the black medium duffel bag in your previous video and I can’t wait to use it!!!
Totally enjoyed this video I’m looking for a few travel items and I did find some on your video, I really like the toothbrush and case, do you not think they’d exchange it for you? I’m not the type who likes to do returns but I like to know that the company will take returns! Cheers and love from Canada 🇨🇦
The longest flight process was from Las Vegas to Washington DC the flight kept getting delayed then canceled:/ so we booked another flight through United I love United now 😂 but my longest actual flight on the plane was from Las Vegas to Mexico. My favorite Amazon must have that you mentioned is definitely the zip up blanket/pillow it looks so soft🥰
I don't love the travel plug adapter that you posted. For me personally, I prefer the Epicka adapter. It's a block with all of the different adapters hidden inside of it for EU, UK, and US/AUS. It has the plug interface for US plugs plus all of the other countries plugs on the backside so that you can use it in I believe 120 countries. It also has 4 USB type A ports on the bottom along with a USB type C port on the side. All you have to do to use it is pick the slider for the country you're in, and slide out the prongs for that outlet, and then slide it back in when you don't need to use it.
Hi Dana! Great recommendation! Do you ever take hair tools on your international trips and if so which ones do you recommend? The last time I took a travel hair dryer to Italy, it was sparking 😫
I blew a fuse in the hotel trying to use my travel hair dryer in Sicily! I was using an adapter, but didn't know it needed to be dual voltage. Needless to say I used the hotel provided hair dryers after that. 🤦♀️
What comfy shoes do you wear on long flights? They have to be comfy enough to allow you to get to your gates, especially if the connection gates aren’t close together and still be comfy enough to allow for feet that swell while on the plane. Any good suggestions?
On a recent 14 hour long-haul flight I found that travel blanket was great however quite bulky to carry around all the time. With a tight time schedule to get to the gate do not have too many items to put into the security trays. I'm going to restrict to personal item bag, small cross body bag that holds my boarding pass and passport, no scarfs, belts, jewelry, & my tablet. Going to try to smush the travel blanket into my personal item bag. I bought the eye mask that plays music through it and although it seemed like a good idea it's not at all noise-cancelling and I ended up using my Sony noise cancelling headphones and an ordinary eye mask. I did also use silicone earplugs because I find they block out the most noise. I wore a mask in the toilets, and took a collapsible mug with a sealable top on it which meant no spill drinks. Larger wet wipes than the handbag size to wipe everything over. Brought a toothbrush and toothpaste but couldn't bring myself to use the toilet sink to do my teeth, Great tips thanks x
I did over a hundred longhaul (living in London and Hong Kong) and I definitely care about hygiene, beauty routine, comfort, but I never would carry as much as you... it's insane - about 8kg at least? Sheetmask, collapsible bottle, a lightweight huge cashmere scarf, ANC Earphones (often given as well as toothbrush), Tablet, buying snacks at the airport... you forgot the pen! Longest was over 21h LHR to SYD
If you want to travel with just a notebook and pen.... be my guest. There is a weird trend of travel shaming people who carry what makes them comfortable and what they can afford and it doesn't make sense to me. Pen is a non-negotiable and doesn't need to be included in this list. Thanks again for your comment and have a blessed day!
I avoid wearing a wide leg pants for long haul flights as I do not want it touching the plane lavatory floor. i always , always wear tights on my long haul flights.
Is that bag not considered a carry on rather than a personal item? Anyone tried taking bag along with with a small suitcase on American Airlines or British airways from USA to london
Why not? Because you are in public in very close quarters. I really dont want to be sitting next to someone bringing out items that have different odors and wetness doing personal business. Go into the bathroom or do it once you land.

Can you tell me where you got your travel step stool? What material is it made of?
i was totally thinking of having a spa time on the plane! i'm glad i saw this to know that someone else does that. :)
I love to bring a portable fan that I wear around my neck. Helps when the ac on a plane isn’t working or isn’t working well.
Loved your video. We are flying to Israel my first long haul flight 😊
Fabulous video! I always bring a word search book in addition to a great book to read.

That's so smart/true about the crest white strips. What else are we doing?! Might as well!!!
amazing tips esp the sheet mask and the skincare items

Portland Oregon to Johannesburg, South Africa with brief layovers in New York and London…..24 hours of flying not counting layovers.

Hi Dana I’m a new subscriber and I love your videos! Thanks for such great content.
You are so welcome!
What a great video with so many fab tips 🎉have an amazing time
Compression socks are great rec! they def help with leg swelling. My longest flight was to Egypt! It was a day and a half.
Wow that is long!

The constant splicing in of video. Wow.
Just for you
What is the external phone battery you are using? Great video!
Great video! I am packing for a long haul so timing is excellent
My longest flight was from New Zealand, Auckland to the US, Dallas texas 14 hrs
Is that bag comfortable on your shoulder walking around the airport?
I don't love the travel plug adapter that you posted. For me personally, I prefer the Epicka adapter. It's a block with all of the different adapters hidden inside of it for EU, UK, and US/AUS. Hi Dana! Great recommendation! Do you ever take hair tools on your international trips and if so which ones do you recommend? The last time I took a travel hair dryer to Italy, it was sparking 😫
If you take hair tools, you just need to invest in a power converter. Universal adapters oftentimes do not convert power.
All hair appliances MUST be "Dual Voltage"
I blew a fuse in the hotel trying to use my travel hair dryer in Sicily! I was using an adapter, but didn't know it needed to be dual voltage. Needless to say I used the hotel provided hair dryers after that. 🤦♀️
I love how Americans think 5-6 hours in long haul 😂 Australians know what I'm talking about!
Gotta figure out how to pack for 3 months (June-August) for Spain and Italy 😅
I’m just worried about the clear bags on what to put in it, do you do a video on that?
I often do thirty plus hours including layovers. The worst is my sacroiliac pain. I wonder if that snake pillow will help?
What comfy shoes do you wear on long flights? They have to be comfy enough to allow you to get to your gates, especially if the connection gates aren’t close together and still be comfy enough to allow for feet that swell while on the plane. Any good suggestions?
I recommend the nike air monarch, very comfy to walk in

Wow thank you for sharing this is so helpful to myself and others!
I’m also from Wisconsin! & I say bubbler too 😂
Love it!
omg I'm hugger too!
for the suitcase did you use a carry on or a check in size?
Carry on
W haul 💯

@@DanaBerez but you do accept that other people are open on their opinions?
Imagine you have a person sitting next to you who is eating smelly beef jerky, doing skincare, whitening their teeth 😂
I can picture it right now. Pure comedy!! 😂
What about your makeup? Foundation? Primer? Cream bases?
Not a packing list/makeup essentials video.
FYI, the link you posted for the black travel bag is not the the same bag you showed on the video.
Great ideas however it's an adapter not a converter. The converter will let you use your blowdryer and straighteners.
Thanks for the info! Yes I need the latter
What luggage do you use ? And what size ?
0:22 can someone tell me the name of the bag please
everything is linked in the description box.
Longest flight was 8hrs to Hawaii
Can that black bag be considered a personal item? Or more of a carryon?
Probably depends on the airline. It could definitely be considered a personal item for Delta, but some of the cheap budget airlines I'm not so sure.
love the tips! Enjoy your trip!!
I heard that Lumify drops are dangerous and can cause blindness. Be careful with those.
I don’t see the pants on Amazon.
I just bring an actual pillow, then set it on my tray and lay down Zzzz
That sounds SO comfortable!
Large ziplock bag to stick in nasty seat back
Ohh that’s a good tip
Great content although the editing had me thrown through a loop with how jittery it was. Roughly cutting from one thing to another.
Thanks for watching! Yes, this editing style is called jump cuts and is intentionally done.
when she said "you're on the flight, you might as well do some skincare" i was like that's real. okay. i'm gonna do that.
Why not? Because you are in public in very close quarters. I really dont want to be sitting next to someone bringing out items that have different odors and wetness doing personal business. Go into the bathroom or do it once you land.
Those hammocks bother the person's seat in front of you when you use it. Very annoying. Please respect that before using.
