    Diesel all the way

Not really. Sales of new diesels are now at just 6% of the new car market.. It may be difficult to get hold of decent used diesel cars in 5 to 10 years time..

Also remember public chargers are 75p-80p per kWH.
    Home electricity is 16-23p kWH.
It will stop the poor without driveways (and city people) from driving.

Although you can reduce the cost of public charging by subscribing to the charge network you use the most. My local charge network is priced at 45p per kwh with a subscription.... An off-peak home EV tariff is around 7p per kwh....

I bought my "forever" or "last" car knowingly in May, from a rather shady garage in Birmingham with no warranty, but the choice of car and the things I've done since are a response to all this 2030 nonsense.
I started with the choice of makers above all; I've owned 5 diesel Ford Transits over the last 5 years, some concurrently, and my biggest nightmare is rust. All of them are unroadworthy now, and 4 of those have been made since the millennium. All of the engines were in "like new" condition when they failed their last MOT's.
So I did no small amount of research, using statistics from MOT failures, which are public information in the UK, and can be scraped using MATLAB or some other tool. Toyota and Mazda, I concluded, don't rust, but Mazda are cheap and make 180,000 mile engines and Toyata make 300,000 mile engines. So Toyota it was.
I had a hard requirement for a tiny diesel, and a towbar. I'm actually really good at driving diesels cheaply, I was using a 2.4L Transit Flatbed as a leisure vehicle on a lower than average salary for years, and my business used them for providing recycling services. Even when it wasn't me driving, they were getting 30+mpg out of those pre-DPF transits.
Then came insurance. I was getting quotes for £150 a month whatever vehicles I tried, including my own old transit AV53 HNO, £230 a month for the larger Toyotas like the Land Cruiser and Hilux, and £130 a month on most cars, leaving me three choices - Yaris, RAV4 (too big), and Auris (too small). Most places don't even mention the car I ended up buying, never even heard of them, but what if I told you there's a tiny little Land Cruiser with a 1.4D4D engine and full diff-lock and 4x4, and it's just as fun as it sounds? It's like a tiny posh Jeep...
It's called the Urban Cruiser, and with the towbar it can pull my cattle trailer loaded, or my camping trailer and I get 48mpg in the city (I live in Manchester) so imagine what it can do long distance! I'm estimating 70+, I like rolling down hills with the clutch all the way in, the M62 is nice for that!
It only sold a few thousand in the UK, but millions worldwide, it has Yaris 1.4D engine, programmable computers everywhere (I'm a hacker, I like to write code), common suspension and steering components, easy to fix, it's my forever car. If a man buys a Hilux, then this is a Herlux, the adventure woman's Toyota battle wagon, forever car.
I've since replaced the suspension arms, shocks, bushes, brake discs, calipers, pads, all the way round all 4 and applied the underseal preserver paint heavily. The MOT scam won't take this baby from me again! This might be the last chance! I also have lots of diesel stored on my boat ready to fill either, for when they inevitably declare war on my freedom. I promise to make a short film about this car shortly.

So what happens if people just say no to EV's and just decide to purchase 2nd hand or run their current car into the ground which could last 10+ years !
I guess they could force insurance companies to increase the insurance for ICE cars, also reduce the petrol stations by turning them into EV charge stations or just close them down altogether !
Also increase the price of petrol could be another stick method.
But I suppose if they get the road charging up and running then the UK Gov will get its money whether you are driving and EV or an ICE car and it can always charge double for ICE cars !

The ban from 2030 and 2035 for hybrids. Is not as simple as who it’s just cars, it’s vans and other forms of transport. Like I’m a sole trades man, I’m reliant on my van and car for my business to function efficiently especially in a remote area. I’ve sat down with a friend who is a plumber who trailed an EV van for a week was ment to be two weeks but was a not working for him or his customers, like we would be forced to reduce the amount of jobs and qoutes a day we would be able to go to. Let alone any emergency call outs could be impossible to respond in good time. So we worked out several options A, we buy a EV van but be forced to put are prices up by a big factor in the region of %100 witch personly not meny people can realistically afford and that’s MAD 😡. Option B, run are business as long as we can keep are ice van running. And then option C, wind down are business and close them cut are losses. So I can see a gradual issue of trades people and others business especially independent local businesses being put in a massive pickle 🥒 over this. Bar in mind there is a shortage of trades people and it will only get worse. Are economy isn’t in a good place but with this will be the best shot at distorting the economy. But what can we do. I only hope I’m Wong…

You'll find you won't be able to insure or register an imported ICE car for use on UK roads after 2030...

I wish I had the space to start stockpiling petrol cars to get me through the rest of my life. I'd keep the same one but it wouldn't surprise me if they drive them off the road by failing to support them with parts so keeping several of the same model would be wise.

I can imagine that one tactic, yet to be employed by central controllers, will be to make the purchase of petrol/diesel difficult and a lot more expensive, along with punitive taxation regimes and road pricing strategies. The proverbial stick.
Will people still want ICE even if they have hitherto preferred it for their use-case?

I bought my current car to last me at least 10 years. Slowly learning how to fix it myself as well. I hate how EVs just feel like mobile phones where you need to upgrade after 3 years.

Really? With just 8 hydrogen filling points in the Whole of the UK that allow public access? Are you aware Shell are closing down most of their hydrogen assets Worldwide? You know you can buy a hydrogen powered car tomorrow if you want one, don't you? And that it's still an EV, with an electric motor driving the wheels?

Not sure how you arrive at that conclusion, with an increasing number of car makers dropping diesel from their ranges. BMW, Volvo and some others, no longer sell diesel cars in the UK....

We are seeing manufacturers put a lot of effort into far more efficient combustion engines and eFuel and other ‘green’ technologies. Let’s say manufacturers come up with something that becomes as efficient over it’s lifetime as an EV, maybe governments will need to add additional legislation?

Diesels… I have a diesel, bought for towing. There do seem to be problems with diesel cars. I wonder about diesel vans (surely they will hang around for some time to come - e.g. do you really want to tour Europe in an electric motorhome?). As for the cars, they were fitted with emission control systems which seem to be fragile. The BMW, for instance, is said to have plastic "swirl valves", which must be removed before they fail and fall into the engine's cylinders! It is, as if, they built cars to be fragile in a way they didn't build trucks and vans - hence they tend to make a poor option for a used-car. The general servicing schedule of a car doesn't cover the items which fail at 100k+ miles. So, a full service history might add value but does little for the reliability, or fallibility.
