  • Have you seen the final episode of The Grand Tour yet? Well, I have, and it’s brilliant - but it’s definitely the end of an era. In this video, I’ll break down why the show should stay dead, even if there’s talk of a revival.
From Top Gear to The Grand Tour, Clarkson, Hammond, and May created something iconic, and attempts to reboot their magic have always failed. I’ll explain why no one can replace them, why TV car shows might be obsolete, and how car enthusiasts like us are moving online for more authentic, personal, and engaging content. Don’t worry, no spoilers!
Plus, where does all this leave us now? And what’s next for automotive entertainment?

You should give Clarkson’s farm a go. I bet 95% of the shows fans have no interest in farming but the way it’s presented with the farm “presenting” team it’s very entertaining. Your channel is great by the way, I’m sure it’s tricky to balance a car channel in this changing time for personal transport.

Clarksons farm is a great show, I always knew farmers had it hard. But the show really drilled it home. I met a farmer recently through a friend and we discussed it. He was a big fan and happy that people were taking note with hardships they have to endure.

There's a point where you age and you reach a time where you don't want to progress with the latest developments. This is the time to just let the next generation get on with it. The world moves on. I already feel like the poor old man who cannot understand how to operate the technology in new cars. My time has past by and I want to stay with what I like. Just like most old people.

I'm in my 50s and that would be all well and good with that - if that was true. I would want that. But this is an era of franchises and reboots. They threaten a new line -up fro the Grand Tour. That's not moving forward. In the UK it's not that they replaced the mass of comedy we had with a new generations - they just ended it.

It was the 'Misadventures of Clarkson, Hammond and May'. Top Gear existed before the trio, so the fact they had made it their own meant it was a huge problem for Top Gear to continue - but there wasn't any good reason it shouldn't return. The Grand Tour was the definition of a 'Star Vehicle' - created for one purpose. Get the trio together again. It died the minute they left.

By making TG/GT a car 'entertainment' show, they got a generation of non-car people interested in cars - the enthusiasts were always there but these guys were watched by people who didn't even have cars. That's what we lose now that they have ended this.

Much as I shall miss Jeremy, James and Richard, I would advise Amazon to let the show end. As the BBC found with Top Gear it is not the programme but these three chaps that people watch. I suspect The Grand Tour with new presenters will go the same way. Also, the car market is changing and I am not sure EVs will have the same pull for many years.

This is the first video of yours i have seen, whilst informative and nice to hear an opinion i thing you missed the mark on one thing. i appreciate Clarkson has a large personality. and i love Clarkson's farm. i do not believe he is a figure head in the trio as you have hinted at. i believe the fact the trio has no figure head is what makes them so good together. the balanced nature towards a common interest is the chemistry that the spin offs are missing. 3. levelheaded. level playing field and level characters in all aspects are what makes them the panicle of all of our childhood friendship dreams.

If you like photography, Kai and Lok, and often one other, did a pretty good replicating this format with cameras on Digital Rev. Sadly, that shop in HK ended the run if videos and has since pulled the entire back catalogue from UA-cam. The two continue individually and often in collaboration. It's a great formula. I guess these things have a life of their own.

Again, I agree with pretty much everything you said. I remember that Clarkson's column in Performance Car was the only one I didn't skip to get to the car reviews. It is interesting to hear your view that you would never be asked to be a replacement because "I'm completely the wrong demographic, and I'm the wrong colour". Why is that, when, in my view, there is clear movement towards positive discrimination. Is there a way to create a new automotive show that captures the spirit of The Grand Tour while embracing a more diverse cast and perspective?...I would say yes if asked! 😃
