My god. do you know how hard it is to find a decent review on here that covers everything about these kits step by step, by just getting straight to the point and keeping us interested and not bored with over explanations? I never comment on youtube videos, but i just had to this time. Perfect review my friend.
peter06121 Thanks for the nice reply. I did the same thing, I watched a lot of guitar kit reviews trying to decide whether on not to build one. But it really was a lot of fun to build. I'm working on a new video that will be a step by step build of a $70 EBay Stratocaster kit. I hope to make it entertaining, informative, and easy to understand. If you have any suggestions, I would welcome them. Thanks again.
Gene
No suggestions at all, you nailed it with this one so I'm 100% confident that your next one will be just as good. I'm sure i watched every single kit review, and yours is by far the best. So again Great job man!
Comment by peter06121 says how i felt perfectly, now i will paste my dyslexic comment/rambling written before i had read peters precise and to point comment that wish/about to write,
Well done the paint job is pretty good considering u didn't buy some expensive product because its special guitar paint marketed to rip you off(surprised Gibson don't sell there special paint that improves tone) i think it looks very close and convincing sunburst and as good as any of the more affordable professional brands u might see hanging in a store. Your black is a thicker band from edge if compare to fender u show if was comparing (not important just only diffence could find in comparison ) but lovely finish and looks as good as any sunburst u see on any guitar. One of the better one of these build videos I've seen, your passion for Teles was very present and nice to feel in the viewing of video.
Well done looks lovely should be pleased. Also glad you didn't decide to paint just one colour, also nice touch with the decal. Your opinions on the wood quality and you stringing improvements was good to know.
How did you feel about sound compared to a fender tele, was it close enough considering cost? Do you think some better pick ups an other parts help to get closer tele sound or was it close enough?
Enjoyed this video👍👍👍🏼✋🏻👏🏼
I appreciate the information about the acrylic paint and the true oil. I also appreciate that it's obvious you put time and thought into the video. The camera and audio quality are really good.
Samuel Mathis Thanks for the feed back. It was a fun project. I will be building a $65 Stratacaster next.
I think you did a great job on that kit and I admire the fact that you didn't know anything about soldering and learned it by video! So many people will never experience the fun of doing something like this because they let the fear of not knowing stand in their way! Turned out really nice! Makes me want to try one now! Thanks for the great video!
74dart man Thanks for the nice post. It was a ball building this kit. I learned a lot in the process and have purchased another kit to build. I hope you do build one, it’s a great experience.
Gene Cavasos DIYGene yep! Think I will. Looks like lots of fun!
Loving this so much!
I really find your enthusiasm infectious, and that is a compliment. Keep up that positive attitude.
William Olsen, Thank you so much. Thanks for watching.
You are very concise in your efforts to help people understand what it is you were achieving in a DYI build. Good work mate! There are many hopeful DIYourselfer musicians that need this type of intellect. Thanks!
Thanks so much. It was such a great learning experience and made me want to do more. I hope you enjoyed it.
Hi Gene
Another great tutorial. Just a joy to watch...you certainly have a talent with finishes. Your sunburst is very impressive...one of the best.!
Chris Patrick, it was easier to do than you would think. Thanks for watching.
My favorite tele player is Bill Kirchen. I love this dude. Today i finished building my tele. Kind a scotch butter look like. I used the same oil as you. I love the outcome. The guitar sounds incredible. It was so much fun to build it. I have no logo yet. Not planing to put Fender logo either.
jazu , I bet it looks great. I love that color. Thanks so much for watching.
Thanks for the quick reply!! I will surely share photos of my build! Now I have to go back snd watch the videos for the kit numbers so I can order! 😄 no worries because I totally enjoyed the videos!!
I just built one of these for myself - except it's a 12 string. It was a great kit by Solo, and I would highly recommend them to anyone interested. Too bad I didn't document it along the way, like you did. Thanks so much for sharing!
I bet the 12 string sounds awesome. I have yet to try a Solo kit but have looked at the site. Thanks so much for watching.
@@DIYGene I am a home studio musician, and I plan on recording with it very soon. Hopefully it sounds good, and you get to hear it at some point! All the best on your future projects!
Excellent! I’m lease send me a link when you do. Thanks
Nice job! Love my t style more and more every day.
Great review!
thanks for the tips. I might use some of these ideas. :)
I got one two weeks ago and from everything I hear the telekit works great. I'm not a super good player either but for what I do it should be great. I may leave a raw finish, for some reason it appeals to me. Guitar center is wiring the pickups in because I'm simple minded but I will try it out tomorrow. Nice video.
Genny Mikel I know what you mean. I am now building a strat kit and I love the look of the wood. I was thinking of doing it natural as well. Thanks for watching and enjoy your Telekit.
That was a rich, rich video, thanks
Great Video! I really enjoy watching! I have always wanted to build my own guitar. I bought a kit once.I just wanted it to be extremely shinny Black body. I have painted 1/16th scale toy tractors and full size tractors, no problem. i have the spray equipment. I sprayed Automotive Gloss Black mixed the way the manufacturer directed. My guitar looked terrible! I stripped it, sanded it, and repainted, No better, maybe worse. I stripped it, sand it, painted it! A hint of how it turned out! I sold the body on E-bay for $1! I then sold all the remaining parts. Since that experience, I have painted other things, metal, wood, plastic, and no problems? I have rebuilt name electric guitars with all new parts but no painting. I don't think I'll ever have the confidence now to build my own kit guitar!
That is too bad. I wonder what went wrong. You have all this experience and the equipment. I hope you will try it again. I had so much fun and learned so much on this build. Thanks so much for watching.
Maybe I'm just too picky? And I'm sure you know Black is a hard color to get right.
Great job on the paint job !
Thanks for watching.
Great job Gene! Great detail, Great history, and genuine!
Da-na-na-na- na- na....Thanks Gene!
Thank you so much for watching! Da-na-na-na...
great job and well explained, I liked your additude , can't wait to do one with my sons
Thanks, Building one of these kits would be a great product to do with your sons. I learned so much and had a ball building it. It would have been even better to do it with my son. Thanks again for watching.
That guitar turned out great!
D-RockFPV, Thanks for watching.
Looks really good.
Thanks for watching.
Pretty stinking fantastic DIY tutorial!
+M Marshall, Thanks, working on a Stratocaster build. It’s going to b fun!
So cool!
Thanks Gene! Great post and appreciated buddy.
Thanks so much for watching.
Thanks for the review. Great job. I like the look of a Tele but want to make sure I can get a heavy sound out of it, too.
Alan Meijer Thanks, the Telecaster definitely has a bright sound to it especially on the neck pick up. But I was impressed on being able to pull a pretty heavy tone from just the bridge pick up.
I love how much black is on there, especially the back side. I find that there’s more yellow/orange burst than black on store sold guitars.
I really like your videos; they are down to earth and really good . I have a Strat and figured that was the thing to play for years and then I got a hold of a cheap t-type guitar that was kind of laughable and more suitable as an archery bow than a musical instrument . I did the neck work on the thing from lessons learned on -- Daves World of Fun stuff -- another great You Tube channel and it's now it's what sits on my instrument stand . I re did my Strat and did the neck work on that and it plays better than it ever did; thanks again to Dave's World of Fun Stuff. A lot of people need to check out Dave -- he's pretty good . This is no Dave commercial and I'm no luthier either. I'm just an old carpenter who learns easily from seeing how it's done . It's guys like Dave and yourself who take the mystery out of these things for the rest of us. We may never make the big stage but we can still have fun with music in our own way .
You did a beautiful job on the sunburst. I did a Tele kit and finished in red paint. Turned out nice. Made a bone nut from scratch...an awesome learning experience too. I did a Strat and reliced it. Putting bone nut on it as I text this.Turned out amazingly well for my first relic job. I want to get a nice swamp ash Strat body (hard tail) and do a hopefully beautiful sunburst finish like you did and install gold hardware. My dream guitar! Something that looks old with updated gold fixtures. This time a rosewood neck...first two maple fret boards. If my sunburst turns out like yours, I'll be extremely happy. You've got a beauty there! Thanks for the demo and explaing how you did everything! Appreciate it!
74dart man , your guitar build sounds awesome. I would love to see pics. I have thought about do a finish in a relic. But I’m afraid I would mess it up and it wouldn’t be believable. When I built the Stratocaster the nut was not mounted. I glued it in and hoped I did the right thing. The Stratocaster also sounds great. I have had so much fun building these guitars. Thanks so much for watching. Do you have any suggestions on another kit build?
DIY Gene wow! That's a tough question as far as an idea for the next kit. Kind of a personal choice thing. If I had unlimited funds, I would do one of each of every name brand guitar model! Lol... I think making an old looking version of a semi hollow body ES-335 would be nice in burgandy see thru finish where you can still see the wood grain would be awesome. Then I want a Firebird like Johnny Winter....the list goes on! I love em all...Lol. If you have an email address, I could send pics of the relic job...not perfect but not bad. I've got a lot of compliments. Was my first time so I'm happy! Take care!
74dart man , I hear ya. I was thinking about a Jazzmaster but I’ve already built two Fenders so maybe a hollow body of some kind. I would love to see your guitar! You can reach me at gcavasos@gmail.com
I don't know what your price point is but you can get an ash body on Warmouth, around 200 bucks for the body. They have very quality stuff.
74dart man, thanks so much. I would really love to see how your guitar turns out. Please send me photos. gcavasos@gmail.com.
I’d love to see you make another guitar. Anytime soon. Hahaha. I love to watch these videos. Good luck.
I will keep pushing them out. Thanks
Great review and beautiful job on the sunburst! One of the best I've seen. I've watched pros do it and not turn out as good! I like how you paid attention to the width of the spray of the black around the edges. I've seen so many guys spray quickly and not get it perfectly even! Your burst is even all the way around. Something I pay attention to. My motto...if you're going to do something, do it right or don't do it at all. You sir did it right! Very nice! I'm impressed!
74dart man thanks ! I love the classic look and I was a little nervous about screwing it up. But it was easier than I thought it would be. I’m doing a video now on building a Stratocaster and I’m thinking of doing a red burst. Thanks for watching.
Gene Cavasos DIYGene you're welcome. I'm going to subscribe and I look forward to the video! I did a Strat kit (relic finish body and hardware) and also a Tele (walnut stain). They are addictive! Lol...want to do another Tele. I was all settled on doing a classic Tele color with a mild relic, until seeing your sunburst. Now I'm thinking sunburst...maybe I'll just do both! Instead of paying a few thousand for one expensive guitar, you can do a lot of kits and have numerous different styles of guitars for the same price! They're awesome! Thanks again for a great video!
74dart man I want to do a relic finish but I’m afraid I would really screw it up an look intentional rather than worn.
Gene Cavasos DIYGene trust me...I was afraid too. I reliced all the hardware with muratic acid from Ace Hardware. Painted and clear coated the body. Then sat and stared at it for an hour! Lol. Finally grabbed my car kets and threw up in the air until they fell on my beautiful paint job! Then it was too late! I had to do it! Took my time and did my best to imagine what natural wear and abuse would look like. Did the same on the neck and put a Strat decal on. Sent a picture to a guy who knows a lot about guitars. Didn't tell him I did it. Just ask what he thought. He thought it could possibly be a Fender custom shop! So I guess I did ok! I think with your skills, based on your video, that you would do just fine! Good luck if you do!
I never thought of using acrylics as wood stain. Your Tele and Strat turned out great. I personally love Tru Oil and use it as much as possible on wood finishing.
Thanks so much. I’m working on a Jazz Bass kit now. Trying to think how I want the finish to look. But Tru Oil will be part of it. Thanks again for watching.
Great works on the guitar!. Looks really nice color too.
Thanks so much. Both guitars were a lot of fun to build.
DIY Gene i can see that. Thanks for sharing this.
That Sunburst effect is fantastic Gene! Another Great Video! You have to do the holy trinity and do a Les Paul next! Thanks Mate
I like how you use the acrylic paints and the tru oil, instead of spraying lacquer that runs or wrinkles, good job!
Le C , Not only that, I didn’t blow up the garage. It really works well. Thanks for watching.
Once again Gene,great video!
I have a telecaster,I play punkrock/Hardrock/blues/country on it
Love it.
I love the Telecaster. I am going to build a custom Telecaster in January and am very excited about it.
@@DIYGene sounds like a lot of fun Gene.
Like you said in the video,be specific on the wood for the body.
My Tele is just stained wood so you can see all the beautiful grain.
Good luck, and hope to see it soon
Good video man!!
BUGS BUNNY. Thanks so much for watching.
Why would anyone thumbs down this video? You did an awesome job!
Thanks so much , and thanks for watching.
Looks really nice.Waiting on my stratocaster kit now.
Alfred E Newman that’s great. I am just finishing a Stratocaster kit I purchased on e-bay for $65. Video to follow. Thanks for watching.
Gene
By the way I’m Mad about you name.
Gene Cavasos DIYGene thanks.I subbed to your channel today.Cant wait to see how your strat turns out.
good job GENE !i watched a lot of these tele kit build videos and yours came out tops pal ... i did a george harrison rocky clone using the same paint method , with a ten dollar ebay china airbrush powered buy a neulizer pump . if you look on the forum the pros will say " no" that wont work . it does .
I think there are so many ways to finish one and be happy with. I just did a video on finishing a Tele style using all water based paints and a water based clear with out spraying at all. I was even Surprised at how it turned out. Here is a link: ua-cam.com/video/5gYCvC_Arq4/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching.
I like the extra attention you put into this, the finish, shaping the headstock n even the decal. I do have 1 qestion, what ratio of ater to those paints do you use when not using the spray gun / spray brush?
CJ99 , if you are wiping on a finish I thinned about 4 parts water to 1part color depending on how transparent you want the stain. I did another solid color with true oil wipe on only no spraying and the finish turned out great. Here is a link to that one.
ua-cam.com/video/ac-YSnAcMCg/v-deo.html.
Thanks so much for watching.
thanks for the info.
My favorite Tele players Albert Collins,Jesse Ed Davis
Great video, sure wish you'd taken video of the build. So I'm curious, how did you measure where to drill the holes in the back for the string through the body?
I drilled holes in the bridge plate by aligning them with the holes that are in the back of the plate, then I used that to mark the holes in the body. I am finishing a new video on building a semi hollow body tele style guitar and hope to have it up in a few days. I have already released a separate video on finishing the body. Here is a link: ua-cam.com/video/5gYCvC_Arq4/v-deo.html
Thanks so much for watching.
Thanks Gene, I'm looking forward to seeing your semi-hollow build video for sure. I'm still working on my first diy tele kit and found your videos to be super helpful. Kind regards! @@DIYGene
You sir, have done an amazing job! How can I get a butterscotch blonde-type color with acrylic?
+Benjamin Vega, I would use yellow with a drop of black and a drop of red or orange. Then I would do about 10 parts water to 1 part color. Depending on the type of wood and the color of the wood it may have a lot of yellow tone in the wood. I would test it on a scrap. Let me know how it turns out?
Is there any DIY kits to make 7 string one?
i love this guitar Gene my friend...Yeah...
Thank you. The Tele is near and dear to my heart. How is my adopted family in Europa? I hope you are well.
Link Ray would love it.
bill martin, Well I have to say. I had to look him up and then Wow! He is like the God father of the power cord!
Gene - I just got a StewMac Telecaster kit, and your video hit most of my questions right on the mark. I use Tru-oil on my acoustic guitar builds and I'm glad to know I can use it on this one, too. One thing - for clear finish over the waterslide decal, did you use the Tru-oil?
Hi Alan, I'm so glad the video help to answer some questions. I applied the waterslide decals over the top of the Tru-oil finish and then applied another coat of Tru-oil over the decals after they dried.
Wow! You gotta do a seperate video to show us how you played that awsome riff.
I have a lot to learn. Thanks so much for watching.
PROTIP - use distilled water when mixing acryilic paint if you intend to keep the leftovers .
petey twofinger, I did not know that. Thanks for the great tip and thanks for watching.
Nice job! You're right, Telecasters are incredible, versatile guitars, I've even seen musicians switch out pick ups and do a little different set up and use them as metal monster guitars!
Is that an Epiphone LP 100 in the corner? I love the fact that so many people, mostly the cork sniffers who buy labels, and not the best value for the money, don't have a clue how awesome the Epiphone guitars really are!
Mt favorite all time guitar is my Epiphone Casino, yes I am an unrepentant Beatles freak. The two P 90 dog ear pick ups are AWESOME! Second is my Epiphone LP Jr with a single humbucker, that is so much fun to play, and I love the sound.
My favorite acoustic is my Yamaha FG 340 - what an awesome sounding guitar, I use D'Addario bronze phosphor 10's, and this thing is the very best I've ever played. Mine is a rare black one, I've searched online and cannot find a black one, weird.
Those three I will never sell or trade. I'm thinking about getting a Harley Benton LP these are awesome quality and sounding right out of the box, and the price including shipping is unbelievable.
Have you seen these? Here's the link
www.thomann.de/intl/ca/lp_models.html?filter=true&manufacturer%5B%5D=Harley%20Benton
You can change the country and currency setting on the top right.
You can select "all brands" or any specific brand you're interested in the settings also. I have it on Harley Benton.
Take care
Jack - Canada
Hi Jack, I would have to say the Telecaster is my favorite. The Epiphone LP is one we rescued from a dumpster (if you can believe) I tore it a part and rebuilt it from the ground up. New pickups and all electronics, and my son loves playing that one. You sound so guitar knowledgeable have you ever thought about starting your own UA-cam channel?
Oh and by the way, I hear that Harley Bentens are the best kits made. Thanks again.
Gene, How about the action on this kit guitar, good? bad? Did you have to make any big adjustments?Frets level?
Iabeerbrewer I️ lucked out with the neck. It was very straight. I️ did level the frets a bit and play with the intonation at the bridge. But all and all good action with minimal work.
Before you started to apply the sunburst on the body did you have to use a filler on the body like you did on your strat build, if so what type did you use? After watching this video and your strat build, well I’m seriously thinking about attempting to build one! Now which one is the question (I have a strat)! Tele?
Tim Castle , I didn’t use any filler on Telecaster but I wish I had. I had to put 15 coats of tru-oil on it to level out the finish. I would use “Plastic Wood “ in a neutral tone if it’s a light colored wood. I covered the whole body and sanded it off with 220 then 400 grit. The plastic Wood accepts stain and you can’t tell it there. I would love to see how your guitar turns out. Thanks for watching.
gcavasos@gmail.com
Thanks gene, but does the true oil harden? Ive never used that oil.
Kevin M. Fleming it does! It is as hard as a lacquer finish. Its been used on gun stocks for years and works really well on the guitar body and neck. It dries fast and can be recoated in about 2 hours.
Considering it was painted with acrylic paint it looks great
Thanks for watching.
If you’re going to do another kit- I would suggest going to guitar fetish and purchasing the body, neck and hardware separately so you can get the quality parts without the throw away parts that come in the kit.
Nice job on your build
Thanks so much for watching.
Did you have to shape the head of the neck? Many kits show a neck with a head not shaped like a telecaster. You can see it in the the amazon kit you show in the video.
Alvin Martinez it’s interesting, this kit had to have the head stock shaped. But I like that because I could design it how I wanted. I am now finishing a $65 EBay Stratocaster kit and it came with the head stock cut out. So it maybe the Luck of the draw. Thanks for watching.
Another awesome Fender Telecaster player: Joe Strummer from The Clash.
Benjamin Ackerman , Oh that’s right!
If there a no pre-drilled holes for the bridge OR the neck (on Muslady tele kit you drill every hole except tuner pegs), which do I measure and drill first to assure the neck, bridge and strings are centered? The bridge? If so, do I estimate the center line based on a neck/pocket that has enough play to pivot just a little bit? Do I install the neck first to run a line from the nut down the center, but not being 100% sure the bridge will be square with everything else? Do I temporarily clamp the neck to the body, then square the bridge and mark all of the bridge and neck holes? Help!
woodsdavide , I did another video on a tele build and went into a lot more detail about the steps. I think it will help. ua-cam.com/video/eY2AIR5vnq8/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching.
To the list of famous Tele players you can add Keith Richards, Don Felder, Vince Gill, Bernie Leadon, Albert Lee, Marty Stuart
Maybe rather than Don Felder (mostly a gibson player) change with Joe Walsh.
The red Epi in the background confuses me. It's got the wraparound bridge of a Junior, but the pickup arrangement of the special...
LOl, good eye. I found the guitar on the curb on trash day in bad shape and repaired and refinished the Special but added the pick guard. Thanks for watching.
Hi Gene.
I'm interested in doing a tele build but I don't want to paint the body. I want the maple neck and the body to have a pale, natural wood grain look. What is the best way to seal the wood without darkening the wood?
You could still use the Tru-Oil. It gives a nice clear finish and can build it up with several coats. I am doing a bass right now and i will be doing something very similar. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the help. I look forward to seeing how your project comes out.
Stairway was recorded with a tele, but played live with a Gibson SG doubleneck
And the first album was recorded wiith a telecaster, only one song on a flying V (You Shook Me). Said JP in an interview.
How did you shape the headstock? Or did your kit come like that?
Jack Leshem , I used a jigsaw to cut the head stock. Here is a link to a more in-depth kit build of a tele-thinline: ua-cam.com/video/eY2AIR5vnq8/v-deo.html
Thanks so much for watching.
at 3.47 looks like body is made from plywood?
What kind of water paint should i get
Just the cheap water base acrylic they sell at craft stores or even Walmart. They run under $2 for a small plastic.

Dude you rock...i just help me salvage to acustics and one electric..i owe you 👊big time..im subscription to ur page..
Rob Enriquez, that’s so cool. I’m glad it helped. Thank for watching and subscribing.
Was that a pevey vypyr?
Yes it is, I love that amp.
I'm not sure if it's your skills or the guitar but it's out of tune by the end of your video. Does the guitar stay in tune?
Homo Liber Its probably my skills. The guitar stays in tune very well. I’m really happy with the overall performance of the guitar.
its used in metal too (jim root)
Patrick Zeisler you are absolutely right! Thanks for watching.
And John 5 too.
Jazz guitarist Ed Bickert also plays a telecaster.
Originally it was an Esquire with only a bridge pickup.
True
And no truss I believe
Hey Gene, do you think you could show a sunburst tutorial on a scrap piece of wood or something? I just bought the same Tele kit and I'd LOVE to do the sunburst on mine as well.
That’s a great idea. I’m working on a DIY Jazz bass right now and was not sure how I wanted to finish the body. A sunburst would look great. So I will try to have a video on doing a sunburst out soon. Thanks so much for watching.
you can just get paint from walmart for 50 cent a bottle. You can just get led wieght
from hobby stores (used to balance R/C) or use fishing line lead wieght.lol
I persaonlly use Water base Poly (cant get true oil in my state) $8 qrt or $4 a pt.
I apply it the same way..just rub it on...it dries fast and is oderless. Light scruffing/wet
sand every 3-4 coats. 15-20 coats...let it dry for 3-4 days...then wet level sand it.
You need to build up the coats and seal the wood....
To get factory smoother finish without using 1000 grits..Just use clear of Rust O lum.
a couple of coats.Let it dry overnight. The slow dring time allows the paint to dry smoother...The water base poly acts as sealer and primer
Then i use car wax with buffing compound...3-4 coats of wax..
Kind of like spit shinning your combat boots.lol
I personally go for the LP kits for $90. You can get a tele for S70
LP set in neck Kit requires more knowlege to get the neck aligned..(NO INSTRUCTIONS)
Video on YT with instructions to add shim. Mount the two outside E strings
before gluing. It's simple...Around $100 p guitar..give or take...
You can order different pickguards for $4 per set. Speed knobs for $2 per set.
Cheap replacement pick up color scheme for $10-$20 p/set..Split coil harness
for $10...Its still going to coats less than $150 for a good guitar. Plus it's actaully PERONALLY customized...You can shave the NECK and TENON to fit YOUR hand.
Only you know what feels right in your hand.
i have 20 -ea electric guitar all put together for around $100. They're all shreding
machines..Well becuase when you build them...You learn how to set them up.lol
I can still get 10 more to equal one gibson.
Then you have to look up DIY guitar hangers and wall mounts.lmao
Kim,
Thanks for the great input. I really like some of the methods you describe. It was a lot of fun building this guitar. I just ordered a $60 eBay strat kit. I’m thinking of doing a build video on it, but for $60 you can customize it in a lot of ways. I’m sure it will have the body being that same light weight bass wood, I was thinking of shaving off ¼“ of it and putting a ¼“ hardwood on the front of the body. Also, have you ever put copper in the cavities of the guitar body? I wonder if that helps as well. I may use some of your methods in my next video. But I will be sure to credit you. Thanks again for the great information!
No I havnt put copper. i put aluminum tape thou. i dont get too much
radio singles. I use shielded cables to minimized dirty signals.
After you get a couple of guitars under your belt. You'll build more, Im sure. Or build different bodies yourself. i actaully built 3 bodies ( i dont have a wood shop) using hand tools or what I have availble.
They're semi hollowed...3/4 base ply wood. Whatever 3/4 sticks wood to build hiight and 5 mm deck. it come out to be around 1 3/4 thick. i dont have a rougter...i can punch the pick up bay easy with
a chissel..lol Drill holes from the electronic control pockets on the back via using a jig saw. i found my dremil...it's even easier, now.lol
i was concern about the wieght of the plywood..So I hollowed out
the center section of my first ply build. For the second and third
build i just used left over wood from our kicthen being remodeled.
3/4 x 3/4 sticks....Pefect for me.lol
i have plenty of wood from old desk, fence and draws..lol
I dont have tools to build a neck..but that's okay. i can used or cheap ebay guitar for donors..
Ive had good lock with them...2 random stars and a flying V...
They're not light.lmao...About the same wieght
as my other basswood factory china guitars
My MIJ E series Fenders are fat body. They;'re not exaclty light.lol
So...yeah...adding 1/4 without removing would be fine too....
I have enough extra parts to build a Tele...So Im thinking of building
a semi hollow body tele. It's a hobby. i enjoy building them. it's actaully relaxing for me.
i actaully got a 70's lawsuit LP a month ago from a thrift store for $40.
It needed TLC...but it had all the electronics and bridge on it.
It's custom Black beauty. It's made from plywood and it's a BRICK.lol
It sounds good. I had one when I was a kid...so it's cool to have one
again....it had dents in it...i actaully didnt remove the (color) paint from it.. i just level sand the clear. Applied 4-5 of water base poly...Then just
a couple of coats of the clear via spray can. i have $50 in that guitar.
It looks almost new.lol
I thought this guitar started life blue, or green.. - Was it later stripped down?
viking1au, No started with a unfinished kit. My first color was yellow in the sunburst. Thanks for watching.
Nice!, But can you review a Les Paul kit from Thefretwire.com. thanks
the original name broadcaster was because of radio broadcasting but gretsch had back in the days a drum kit whitch was called the broadkaster. So Fender couldn't use that name anymore and when the the television was a thing Fender came with the name: Telecaster thats why its called the telecaster!
Great point! Thanks for sharing and for watching.
@@DIYGene thanks, I enjoyed your video. I watched it because i'm doubting to buy a tele kit IF my country (the Netherlands) goes in a second lock-down. I also watched your video of the fender or other logo on the neck and maybe i'll put the fender esquire logo on my fender squire tele! but long story short great explanation in your video!!!
Wow!if u wear glasses,u look like steve vai...
Virtuoso
+Dawn of the Thread, Thanks for watching.
Great know-how vid - the dislikers are idiots - horses for courses - creativity and learning is the story here
Thanks, I learned so much building the kit and had a ball at the same time. Thanks again for watching.
See my tele here;

😂😂😂
“Let me show you how great this lil guitar sounds” sounded like ass XD
TheConTraDemOn, Sorry if you don’t like how it sounds, I’m happy with it. Thanks for watching.
DIY Gene nah it’s cool I mean nothing against you. You’re actually a great guy with a helpful channel I just don’t like the sound of the cheap stock pickups in DIY kits.
TheConTraDemOn, You are absolutely right. I am thinking about replacing the pick-ups and the tuning keys. But after I do that, I know it will sound better than a Squire.
DIY Gene yes and it might play better if you do a fret job if you haven’t already. Definitely replace the pickups and put some better strings on it than the ones in the kit like Elixirs. You can make it sound great. I love the paint job you did. Keep it up
Headstock does not look right
I didn’t want to copy Fender, because it’s not a Fender. Thanks for watching.
Are you Greek?
Don't ever play guitar again
Dick
A**hole!
