Yamaha SG3000 Professional.

The Yamaha SG 2000 had been the top of the line for the SG models since its introduction in 1977. The SG 3000, introduced in 1982 represented in Yamaha's own words 'our ultimate solid-body electric guitar'. This was a much flashier, high end model using mother of pearl and abalone inlays, but as a flagship model it was also the first Yamaha model to come equipped with a newly designed pickup, the Spinex.
The high output Spinex Alloy pickups eliminates the need for embedded brass plate under the bridge used on the SG2000 to increase the sustain. This guitar was built on February 18, 1986 at the Yamaha Custom Shop in Hamamatsu, Japan.

Those SG Υamahas look and sound great. Their only drawbacks : They weigh a ton and will cost you an arm and a leg to buy new.

Nice! I love these. I remember going to a guitar shop when i was maybe 5 years old around '88-89 with my dad and a friend of his. I still remember them joking about the cost of one of these. Ive wanted one since. I always had it in my head that these were the most expensive, best guitars you could get when i was a kid.

Bought a 78 SG2000 new - back then it was about $50 cheaper than a Les Paul Custom. It had incredible sustain and was nicely made. They're expensive but still don't hold their value like a Gibson.

Hi thanks a lot for the very nice video of an amazing instrument. I have a question "...The high output Spinex Alloy pickups eliminates the need for embedded brass plate under the bridge used on the SG2000 to increase the sustain..." i thought that sustain is the result of a stiff guitar that does not absorb the strings vibrations. As an example if the neck and bridge assembly were a piece of steel the sustain would be very prolonged. A mechanical reason more than a electric reason. Could you elaborate a little ? thanks a lot again, gino

Sustain comes through the amp for two reasons - higher output pickups picking up weaker vibrations, and physically due to the guitar.
The pickups in this guitar must be higher output than the pickups in the SG2000.
If you put a 7k ohm humbucker in a guitar, and then turn around and put a 14k ohm pickup in the same guitar, it'll seem like the guitar has a lot more sustain, but it's due to the pickups in that case.

Can't beat the Yamaha SG 2000 or the 3000, such a great guitar, never understood why Carlos Santana went over to the PRS, the Yamaha SG 2000 OR 3000 is far better than the PRS, maybe it was the weight, the PRS is much lighter, maybe that's why Santana went over to the PRS.

PRS paid him to play their guitar, Yamaha did not.

Although Yamaha SGs are great guitars, the US made PRS are guitars of superb quality also. In fact I have played even some Korean SE models and they were very good also.
