You are missing the point. Australia made a decision to transition to a nuclear submarine fleet. The US and UK have the best nuclear submarines, so it made sense to pursue new submarines from both these long standing allies. Hence, AUKUS.

@Medio2507 Yeah.... No

Please don't assume that everyone who claims to be an 'Indian' here is actually an Indian. Every Indian I know is very supportive of this deal. Besides, amongst our billion plus people, one would find some cranks of every kind.
Funny that a threat to India, i cannot see how, its not like they are going to be carrying nuclear weapons or is this like China, oh only we can have nuclear submarines but everyone else in the region cannot. India does not get Nukes from the USA or UK because they are busy getting second rate ones from Russia and of course those countries would not trust India with their nuclear secrets anyway. The only exports India is interested in is exporting its population.

I’ve also seen a fair few ‘wion’ news reports parroting Russian narratives about NATO expansion as a justification for Ukraines invasion while simultaneously ignoring the fact that Finland and Sweden joining NATO more then doubles NATO/Russian border.

Australia can have nuclear weapons too... but this comes a great cost. Australia with a population of less than 30 million people, is not in a position to own, maintain and service them.
If USA passing nuclear technology to Australia is fine, then soon Iran, Taliban and others will also have the right to own them too. I don't think the world or Australia would be safer in such a situation.

This is a proliferation of nuclear technology that can easily turn into nuclear weapons. The IAEA then shouldn’t have any problem with Iran producing its own nuclear program.
The Global South needs to work together rather than being incessantly infatuated with the West. Colonialism, WWI, and WWII were the offsprings of the West.
No, it's not. It's just nuclear power, Australia is a signatory to the nuclear non proliferation treaty. We have no intention of making or owning nuclear weapons.

You can do a lot with 380 billion (potentially double if we rent the first boats). I am not a fan of forward defence, with a very specific set of tools no less. it'll be interesting to see how Australian force structure changes to accommodate this new strategic posture.

At 2.20 minutes. “Advantages of Nuclear submarines” The sub in the background is a Russian diesel electric Project 877EKM Kilo. Just sayin….
Please get your facts right. China actually has 12 Nuclear Powered Submarines. 6 Jin-Class (Type 094) which are Ballistic Missile carrying Nuclear Powered and 6 Shang Class (Type 093) Nuclear Powered attack submarines. By the time Australia acquires its 5 that fleet will increase to at least 20 not including the 67 conventional powered submarines already in service.
With the build prrogram and with the stop gap measure , Australia will have at leats 15 nuke subs in the mid 40"s and to say India has nuke subs is s joke as it has ONE lease OLD Russian sub, so FIVE countries, ...Russia.....not great value...China..good value..France ok value, not great , UK better value than France, USA. best value, then Australia...the 6th country ! I would guess that by 2050 as long as the world has blow itself up Ausralia will have about 20 nuke subs ALL armed WITH NUKES!

@@johnrogers8836 A contract is a contract. Neither Australia nor France would have proceeded with the project without a contract from the outset, as the agreement brings certainty to both parties.
France knew all along that it was likely that Australia truly wanted to a nuclear submarine fleet in the end. So, in a sense, the French have some of the blame for the predicament they found themselves in. The French should have just withdrawn their bid at an earlier stage.

It is like given the privilege to carry a pistol around. Carrying a small weapon does not deter attackers but rather attract attackers to target you first.
What is not so apparent is that now that Australia is "armed", Australia can also be fair target for other gun carrying attackers. Carrying a small pistol and walking into a room where others are much heavily armed than Australia. When the situation comes to a push, attackers will attack those who are armed first. By buying into USA's talk, Australia has put itself in harm's way.
Australia is now moved from the unlikely target category to the likely target category and this was done without actually improving Australia's defense at all. Very bad choice.
Not really. It only makes a difference in one respect, other nations won't know where our subs are. With diesels, you know the range and that the sub has to return to a base or meet a fleet oiler to refuel. This makes their location easier to predict. With nukes the CCP won't know if the subs are in our waters, international waters or the waters of a friendly nation. That makes them an effective deterrent, not just for us but for our friends.

According to Sharma, China is panicking over Australia getting 7 nuclear subs in 10 years, one more that what it has TODAY. Ten years ago, China had few cars on the road, today several cities have self driving buses. If this trends continues, China would not only have more than 7 nuclear subs in 10 years, they would probably be self driving subs.😂😂😂

@@gj8550 Such a confident attempt at analysis. It’s a shame it is so horribly wrong
China is not panicking. China wants to let Australia know the repercussions of the seemingly "harmless" decision; much like Ukraine's "harmless" decision to insist on joining NATO. After this first step, Australia will then allow USA to have its base in Australia? By that time Australia will have been too heavily invested in USA that it can no longer back down (much like most of NATO Europe). Australia will no longer be a harmless country in times of serious conflict.

@@I_Am_Victor You bloody uninformed fool! 1972 was the launch year for the original version of the Mk48 Mod 1 torpedo. The Royal Australian Navy certainly does not operate these obsolete weapons for obvious reasons. Indeed, the RAN co-developed with the US Navy the latest and current Mk48 Mod 7 Common Broadband Advanced Sonar System (CBASS) torpedo version, which entered service in 2008. Moreover, unlike the US Navy, none of the RAN's major ships dates from the 1980s, with the RAN fleet being rather modern and capable.
If anything, with the future AUKUS submarines, Australia is getting a bargain as most of the costs and risks born by the development of nuclear submarines have already been made decades ago by the UK and the US. Put another way, the UK and US did most of the homework, with the Australians merely taking advantage of the Anglo-American knowledge and expertise with nuclear submarines.
So, Victor, shut your mouth before you speak.
