Arizona has a very high incidence of Valley Fever and the simple blood test to diagnose it should be standard for any compliant of shortness of breath, cough and fatigue. Valley Fever almost killed my daughter 16 years ago when she was 18. A lesion ruptured her right lung, she required chest surgery when the lung could not reinflate with chest tubes, then she developed sepsis and required a second chest surgery. She was hospitalized for 12 weeks and has had sequelae- she has never felt well since.
Our son-in- law’s Dad died of complications from this. He was the handy guy to call in his community because he was good at fixing things and a real handyman.
I got it 3 years ago. I started coughing blood. They told me I most likely had lung cancer. The cat scan revealed I had renal carcinoma too. It took 6 months of testing bf they figured out it was valley fever. It took a year of anti fungal medications. The cancer in my kidney however is still active. I've had two operations so far and a third to remove my kidney is scheduled for next month.😕
Im praying for Noah's speedy recovery.🙏🏾 😢My sister sent me this story because our sister died from Valley Fever more than 35 years ago. We moved to KS from AZ and the KS doctors had no clue what was wrong. They ran countless test, misdiagnosed, prescribed wrong medicine... My sister was 9 at the time and her last year of life was spent in the hospital. 🥺 The coccidioides fungus is found in soil and causes infection when inhaled. People with suppressed immune systems are particularly at risk. Symptoms may resemble those of the flu, including fever, cough, chills, and chest pain. It gives me chills to hear that this sickness is still in the atmosphere (note: it resides in desert regions).
I was in the 1% where it disseminated and had lesions throughout my body. Spent 6 months on the floor with a lesion at the base of my skull pressing against nerves, causing me to fall over. Blood test & fecal tests were negative- they biopsied 1 of 12 lung lesions and found out that way.
My brother had this and it took over a YEAR to get better. He was in the hospital for over a month, then went to a nursing home and then had IV antibiotics for MONTHS! I really thought he would die. It was horrible.
My sister passed away from this back in 1985. Haven't heard ANYTHING about this again until right now. Cocosidiosmicosis might be spelled wrong but I'll never forget the actual name. Nickname Valley Fever.
Looks like the station is trying to get people to subscribe in order to see the coming videos about this story. But as a public service they should have included pertinent info in this video; how it’s contracted, is it contagious, symptoms etc. A journalistic fail. Off topic - Doesn’t the young man’s mother look like Angie Harmon?
Hmmm. I was concerned about Valley Fever after visiting AZ and my doctor said there is no simple test for it, that I would have to see a pulmonologist. I wonder which is true? [I ended up needing an xray to rule out pneumonia, and I guess it would have been visible there]
It makes me wonder how many compromised retirees move here and end up getting this. I was shocked when I learned about this condition and I’m amazed how many little dogs I meet that have this and have to be on lifetime medication for it.
My aunt had this a few years ago during the pandemic. We thought she had Covid at first and I had never heard of valley fever. On top of that she is a breast cancer survivor and only has one lung. But she recovered and is fine. It was a battle though.
It’s in the soil! Very common in the San Joaquin Valley of CA as well. My DIL picked it up after we built a chicken coop in her backyard which disturbed the soil. She had a compromised immune system from other health problems and we didn’t know she had it until a month after her death, when the health department from Orange County, Ca called my son!
Doesn't matter if you're the best athlete in the world , sickness and disease will come to anyone! I'm blessed to be 35 and have never been sick in my life. I give all my thanks, give praise and glory to God and jesus christ . Also never took the covid jab. Health and wellness comes from God alone
No vaccines for valley fever. It's a fungal infection that can reoccure and can be diagnosed through radiographs and blood work. Saw it often in veterinary medicine.
Scary to be misdiagnosed
Holy crap. Valley Fever has been around ever since I was a kid 60 years ago...
💉
We almost lost my Brother-in-law from Valley Fever.

Damn shame it took that so long to diagnose his condition

His place of residence is in the S.W. Part of Arizona and in (1) of the highest concentrated Counties for Valley Fever according to AU.

🥺🥺This brought back so many memories 😭
Wow poor kid
I had it when I was just a kid…60 some years ago! It made me really sick. It takes about a year to recover
How about how to avoid catching it?
You can’t. 😂 it’s in the air man!!
One recommendation is to wear a mask when digging in the dirt/garden etc.
Eat local honey to build antibodies
@@katjay3125 antibodies to a fungus? Where did you get this info?!
@@MaryEastBay I think wearing a mask is probably the best way to go. Especially during windy days or during a Haboob.

Dogs can get valley fever too.
Fungus is spreading and we have no idea how/where

Wtf!! I got valley fever and I got just as sick as this kid and I didn’t make the news. 🤦♂️
Its probably the covid vax side affects
Okay?
2 min adn 18 seconds of of how the kid felt. 0 min of anything helpful
Valley fever is common.
Atlas subluxation complex
How about a current picture of him?
Clearly, that's none of your business ...
@@tjmayer9103 smoke and mirrors terrible segment. Didn't say possible exposure ways this teen contracted this.
@jamesclark9347 I agree, I was just messing with you! 😁

How’s you get it? Is it going around in the area?
All sorts of different diseases are coming in from people that are coming in illegally from the border

Was it the vaccine, and the experts are calling it valley fever?
