It doesn’t fit with the “tone” of the movie. They were two stone cold killers are the beginning and suddenly they’re loving doting parents. It’s very cute though.
I think both endings, original and alternate, would have been incorporated into the movie just fine. Obviously they didn't realize that they could have had the original ending of them speaking to their couple therapist and then added the alternate ending by adding "Five Years Later" to flash forward to when they had the kid. It would have been even better. But that's just my opinion.

As much as I LOVE this alt. ending, I'm glad they gave us the ending that they did in the actual movie. That way it left us with an opening for a possible sequel [with more to the plot hopefully & more action], then later they can give us an actual ending like this.

But they should have had just used a real baby😂
It absolutely worked for Mr & Mrs Smith, if you are making a connection with Brad and Angelina as real life couple that's another story. But the characters from the movie ended up just fine and happy.
It wasn't in the movie bc it was an extra scene they shot but didn't want as the ending so they changed it but probably still included it in the blu Ray dvd or something
