Honestly? I think this should be used as another trial run to give competitive final smash meter a chance.
We’re already at the point where we don’t care about the tournament itself, and the last time we experimented with FS meter was when the game came out, four years ago.
So, we could give a quickly-abandoned mechanic a second chance, completely undermine the entire point of the cup, and hey, if people end up hating it, it’s not like anyone cared about the tournament anymore, anyway. Win-win-win.

It’s one thing that Nintendo would basically shut down the tournament, it’s just something I’m used to at this point. But the fact that Panda CEO used this opportunity to sabotage a possible positive change with the Nintendo-Smash relationship is just very very scummy.

Panda sees SWT as a threat. It's bigger, better, and community run.
So they gave Nintendo a choice: them or us.
If Nintendo didn't cut off community licenses, then Panda was going to terminate their commercial license (which Nintendo has actual investment in).

You asked a really good question, "What more is there to be gained by doing this?" and I think that answer comes easiest if Panda Esports is publicly traded - investors are up his ass trying to get every nickel and penny out of the circuit as much as possible. If Panda Esports is private, then maybe their financial situation isn't stable and they are scrambling to payback loans and offload debt?

Having a monopoly on anything is usually worth everything businesswise, long term if panda deals with this bad pr well and keeps their now monopoly on streaming smash and them having the only big circuit they have a lot of options in the future to make a lot of money that they wouldn't if competitors like smash tour were there, mostly based on things that cause bad pr that they couldn't take with competitors because everyone would just go to the competitors.

@@VampiresAreRealGuys I think me irl is saying that Alan is trying to bet on the short memories of people. If he gets a monopoly on all big Smash tournaments he is gambling that people want to watch and play competitive Smash over morals or ethics or have no choice because Panda is the only one around (think like a protection racket). Notice that he has done it once many players have swapped full time streaming or competitive Smash, so if they do want to continue living without getting tons of costs to reeducate (some do have degrees) they HAVE to play with Panda.
But what Panda forgot is that they are not a multi-international conglomerate worth hundreds of billions, they only got this far because of the dedicated fans of the competitive Smash and FCG communities and their staff who love the games Panda supposedly supports.

    • @rafaelbordoni516
      @rafaelbordoni516 2 роки тому

It's also important to remember that competitors are not just passionate, playing Smash is their living. Even those that don't make their living as competitors have spent years practicing, it's a huge chunk of their lives. I totally understand them if they keep going to Panda tournaments after all of this, don't blame them a single bit. And let's be real, if there are events with players, there will be viewership.

I like the part where Nintendo claims that they "weren't trying to trap the community" when this is at least the second time they've done this, canceled an event last second when all the costs were already sunk. It's hard to feel like it's not on purpose when it's a pattern of behavior, but that said, I'm still more mad at Panda, or I guess Alan, in this situation.
It's very much a "better a devil we know" situation. At least I expect Nintendo to fuck us over at this point. But betrayal is something else entirely.

Honestly Alan pushing for exclusive rights to essentially the scene (via licensing rights) and sabotaging the tournament when he couldn’t get it shouldn’t go unanswered.
I love some of the Panda players, but the CEO of Panda needs to be completely expelled from the scene. He should never make another cent off of our love for the game ever again. I hope the players can find another sponsor cause I can’t support anything affiliated with Panda when it comes to Smash ever again.

I think this situation is two different issues, the first is Nintendo shutting down SWT, which is like Evo all over again but on a much bigger scale. Hopefully Nintendo comes to their senses and realize they gain nothing from this. The second issue is Alan and Panda acting like a mafia trying to scoop up the entire Smash market by bullying people. The BTS/Panda situation in particular is borderline criminal, trying to scare people to break contracts and pay Panda “or else something bad might happen to your company/tournament.” With BTS corroborating this, there is nothing Alan can say to save himself, and Panda is probably dead too. I don’t believe this “99% of Panda didn’t know” BS, the talent probably didn’t know but I am confident people behind the scenes knew exactly how Alan was recruiting these events to switch from SWT to Panda.

What I wish people took more seriously is how long Nintendo took to reply, most of this could've been prevented if they had good communication, which they do not, even if worst case scenario where Panda's CEO pulled the strings to become the main focal point of the competitive smash scene, if Nintendo had replied to the World Tour months ago, most of this mess would've been prevented.
I do believe most of the people working for Panda have no say in this and the entire organization should be punished as a whole, if this was Nintendo's direct order then there's not much that can be done, they already stated they want to be involved now and this is the price for that, even if their involvement is really bad.
If as i mentioned before, this is the Worst case scenario, then its all up to how Panda handles it, if the guy at the top gets removed from the company, or they let it sink with him.

If it comes out that Panda was responsible, I'd hope there'd be a boycott

I don’t understand with what authority Nintendo is able to shut things down. It’s time to take them to court, they have absolutely no case in the US or Europe. We should just start a fund to challenge them legally.

Nintendo technically does own full and complete right to their game, and they can decide what happens with it.

They own the rights to stream the game. Technically every company has every right to take down videos and streams of their game. They usually don’t but it’s within their legal right to do it

@@defectivesickle5643 That’s not how IP works in the US (or even in Europe). Nintendo has absolutely no case, just like they don’t have a case against modding or emulation (in the US or Europe). They rely on people being afraid of the amount of money it’d take to prove them wrong. And that’s all.

HAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! How stupid can you be? Good luck with that, by the way. Everyone thinks their a IP lawyer on the internet.

Seems like Nintendo was willing to work with the SWT as long as the SWT didn't violate IP, then Panda CEO must've went past the Nintendo Reps and straight to the higher ups. The Nintendo higher ups must've been persuaded by the Panda CEO to put a stop to the SWT and the Nintendo Reps simply had to relay the bad news. Truly unfortunate.

Man this all makes so much sense, all this snakery behind the scenes with scaring off smaller organizers. Ill bet money too that alot of these events that were forced to backout were on non american soil… like oceania, Eu and various canadian tournaments.. this was called smash world tour for a reason…

Nintendo tried to fix the issue.
One greedy, slimy Panda guy decided to create a toxic conversation with Nintendo and run with the spoils.
Ends up single-handedly DESTROYING the ENTIRE community including himself.
    Truly pathetic and petty.

licensing for streaming a smash tourney? I can understand stage music, but maps? they agreed to be in the game and anything associated with the game, if they didn't want that, THEN DON'T HAVE UR SHT IN SMASH, 2nd it just sounds like Nintendo and Panda are monopolizing this because that's the only place to see a big smash tourney, well to be fair its legal, its their property, but maybe some new laws need to come out around this stuff to regulate it better

I don't understand why you would legally need approval from nintendo to run the tournament. If you bought the game, then it's yours and you can do whatever you want with it.
