    I bought the kit last year & am yet to build my dome. I was trying to figure out how to add height without adding width. Glad I came upon this video.

    I rent too! I feel your pain! This is so cool!!! It looks like it might actually fit in my small yard (small because the raised beds and my downstairs neighbors motorcycle shed take up the majority of the space.)
    Anyway, glad to come across your channel after your post on Facebook! Looking forward to future videos!

      Magidome recently shared a picture of a dome about 3’ around 🤣🤣🤪 tiny, adorable, but arguably useless. It shows that it can really be whatever size you make of it though! I’ve got a few videos in the works 🤞🏻🤞🏻 the kiddos let me get to them so the UA-cam world can enjoy!

    Great job on the greenhouse. The kit costs £66 here which is a bit steep for 11 light duty plastic connectors.

    • @BuyingThyme
      @BuyingThyme  3 роки тому

      If you look at it as strictly an exchange of cash for plastic, it will be a steep purchase. But most don’t know how to create a geodome. They don’t know how to create the angles. How to design.
      If you consider the time invested into a project (as a parent this is my biggest asset exchange. There is never enough time!), and the experience or skill that the product removes, then it is very fairly priced.
      It’s by no means a necessary part to create a geodome, but it removes many of the entry hurdles that a new DIY’r will face.

      A1 v icosa is very basic, if you can cut timber and drill holes you have the skills to make one:)
      As a rule of thumb the strut length shouldn`t exceed 24x the height of the timber so for a 2x1 this would be 48". I would recommend using 3x1 for the 11ft version and even then additional bracing would be a good idea. You have to be mindful the increase in deadload (weight of the structure) doesnt exceed the strength of the connectors.

      @@JohnGuest45 I built a Magidome 12 ft tall. Lasted all winter. Amazing product saves soooo much time .

    • @JohnGuest45
      @JohnGuest45 3 роки тому

      @@Mr.dr.brotherman
      I make that about 17 ft diameter with struts almost 9ft long, its asking a lot of 2x1 timber. The unsupported covering on a 9ft x 9ft x 9ft equilateral triangle would be very prone to sagging in the middle under load and it would bow inward like a sail with a bit of wind :)

    • @Mr.dr.brotherman
      @Mr.dr.brotherman 3 роки тому

      @@JohnGuest45 yea I just added internal braces. Cost me an extra 50$. No sag. Used it as a yurt all winter for outdoor hangs

    Hello! I've been following your IG for some time (and now also Magidome's!). Thanks for making this video! It's inspirational and I can just imagine a Magidome in my backyard. I'd grow native plants for pollinators (because I have no space in the house). Sending you love from Southern Ontario! I've Subscribed and Liked!

    • @BuyingThyme
      @BuyingThyme  3 роки тому

      Absolutely love that!! That is my hope for next year too; getting more natives going. I have this idea of gorilla gardening a patch of the woods near me with loads of natives in an attempt to “win it back”. (But first the DSV & garlic mustard needs to be tackled.) best of luck in the giveaway!! Just a few days left 🥳

  • @ri8000
    @ri8000 2 роки тому +1

    how is the flex on the wood? like if i were to use this as a kids play thing and there's potential of them climbing on it?

    • @BuyingThyme
      @BuyingThyme  2 роки тому

      The plastic connectors only work with 1x2 lumber. Although I could hang on it, it held my weight as an adult, (on the smaller lumber lengths) I wouldn’t rely on it for a climbing structure. Especially not if you do a longer length of lumber. It holds snow, wind loads and can carry hanging plants or shelves.
      The new metal connectors that magidome now offers, used with 2x4’s, could totally handle climbing kids.

    I've been watching your videos for the last few months now and was very curious about your greenhouse. Thanks for sharing more details! I'd love a greenhouse like this as well to extend the grow season here in London Ontario. hoise_girl on Instagram & hope to create my own UA-cam channel soon 😀

    How many mil poly?

    • @BuyingThyme
      @BuyingThyme  3 роки тому +1

      Vapour barrier, which is 6mil. It typically has UV stabilizers and should last a few years. You can do thinner but it may need to be replaced yearly.
