- Have a Denon AVR going into protect mode and shutting down? The power light flashes red when it goes into protect mode This video could help you determine if it's a problem with a speaker and which one or if it is something else.
Dude I was ready to start digging into my avr 1082. Had the lid off and everything. Then I ran across this video.. had two speaker wire strands just close enough to when the sub would hit. It would vibrate them together and go into failsafe. Thanks a bunch for saving my butt!
Bought a new AVR and out of the box it started shutting down every now and then. I thought that it was my bad luck that i got a faulty product and then i came across this video. Man! you saved the day, Not all heroes wear cape.
@Bhadwa Modi if the speaker connection isn't proper, even after resetting you'll get the same error.
I'm glad this video has been able to help others! It's almost 4 years since I posted it and mine is going strong and just got a firmware update tonight.
Hi Shawn. I've just googled a ""solution for my Denon receiver switching its self off"....watched your video and thank god I did...you are a lifesaver. Like you, I was about to pack my receiver off to the repair shop. But I followed your instructions and now we're back in business...thanks so much...
Good call! I for sure thought it was a bad resistor inside but I then realized one of my speaker wires came out and that was the culprit. Thanks!
This solved my issue. Found out a bad speaker cable. Thought my 10 year old Receiver has gone bad, Awesome!!! Thanks.
Dude, thank you. Same problem for me. Left rear had come disconnected. Thanks for posting this.
Thank you for the help! I was almost ready to buy a new receiver. I am in Canada and these are about $700 or more at best new. Seems to work ok now. I even had this into a repair shop and they could not find any issue with it.
You are welcome. Been three years since I posted this and mine is still going strong!
Well spoke too soon. Starting doing it again. What a pain.
@@brianw6118 may want to go through it again. Could be another speaker, bad wire, even something in the speaker lose or even a loose or grounding speaker wire connected at the receiver.
Wow this was my exact issue. Left rear surround speaker wire was chewed up. Replaced and and corrected the levels and the problem appears to have gone away. Thanks!
I'm having the exact same problem after upgrading my rear and surround speakers. Thanks for the tip!
Thanks!!! You just made my day!!! I got the same problem you had, almost buy a other receiver.
As others have said already, thank you so much! I ran into the same issue and your video pinpointed the issue.
I have the same model, and I've had the same issue. I use a standard DD/DTS 5.1 setup. No Atmos or any extra front dolby speakers involved, but I've set all my speakers with dB values above zero, rather than below, figuring I'd get more of a loud impact with the sound. Only my subwoofer is set below zero.
If I understand this correctly, if I lower the levels from each speaker, it should prevent my receiver from going into protect mode. Am I correct?
My Denon x4200 when I turn it on it briefly displays the input, then shuts off and blinking red. I disconnected all the speakers and even reset the unit and same. What can it be?
Dear, please, I have the Denon AVR S720W for a few months that I have been using and yesterday it was already on for a few hours, I had the following symptom! Suddenly I went out and the red light started to flash and to stop flashing I had to press the on / off button, I turned it on again and in a few seconds the same thing happened. I found this video on UA-cam quite informative and enlightening, however, I did this test and all my boxes are in perfect working condition. I waited for a while and called again I stayed about 25 minutes with it on and it didn't happen again, but it was too late and I went to sleep!
Now I don’t know if this was temporary or if it’s going to happen again, has it happened to any of you from the comments here? What did you do to resolve this? Thanks!!
My 689 keeps shutting down after awhile but like I said don’t know how to get menu up on my tv to look at the numbers thanks
So you said the sub won’t put it in protect mode unless there’s a weird issue. I believe my receiver is going into protect mode when the bass hits hard on my subwoofer at about 50-60% volume. Any ideas what it could be?
Disconnect the sub and try to reproduce. If it still happens it's probably not the sub. Possibly a problem with one of the speakers like I had.
I don't have the remote can I still setup
My denon keeps switching off showing thermal protection enabled with red light blinking. Tried removing all speakers and reset but not resolved. Can u help?
Did you follow what I did in the video and identify any specific speaker causing the issue? If you did and didn't find a specific speaker having an issue then I'm not sure what else to try. When I had this issue I only had it go into thermal protection when there was a loud sound in a movie/show I was watching because there was a speaker it had increased the volume on because of a poor connection. It didn't stay in thermal protection mode as I could turn it off/on and get it to work again. Hope this helps some.
Hello how do I get setup menu on my tv
First off all how are u suppose to access the menu when amp powers on and then blnks red within sec?
Try turning the volume the entire way down or just check your speaker cables before turning it on. You may have another problem or maybe a speaker cable or speaker is shorted instead of a loose connection like mine was.
you might have the same issue I got after looking at the red light issue almost all the videos show a resister has blown seems to be a simple fix but for me I will have to send it in to get fixed not an electrician at all
Thanks
Amazing
I have a red light flashing and the 4500 turns off after 5sec I presume something blew inside like a resister anyone else got this problem?
Not sure but could be the same problem as in this video.
@@shawnort could be anything lol im lucky its still on warranty so Ill know more monday had to take my old yamaha aventag 2030 out lol its a beast and unkillable but doesnt do atmos or dtsx
