  • Making a portrait with a 100 year old mystery camera! Using 4x5 sheet film and 510 Pyro developer let’s see how this camera works today in 2024. Scans will be done on an Hasselblad Imacon 646 scanner and film is developed in a JOBO rotary film processor.

These videos, which show the use of the camera, the development and the finished photo or negative, are very inspiring.

Ok... I'm honestly shook by how sharp this lens is. I'm getting the feeling that 4x5 may be a bit of a sleeper surprise.

Love the old cameras! I'm just getting going on 4x5, so, yes, do more LF videos.

No surprise the 9x12 detective falling plate cameras were also similar. Its really great to see videos covering older cameras the evolution is apparent once you own a few :)

I just want to express my appreciation for how good the photography came out on a camera that's about 1000 years old. Contrasts, aspects, soft shadows, and of course, your amazing wife. I'm surprised how this is even possible

You added a zero-- if it was a 1000 year old camera it would be a miracle or something left by ancient aliens 😂-- glad you like the post- old cameras have lots of potential and application 2024

Steve, go more with 4x5, p.e. with Fomapan 100 in 510 Pyro, with FX-55 (great) and Stand in HC and Rodinal...

Great video! I love these old box cameras. I’ve got a few falling plates cameras one of which is 4x5. Can’t wait to run some plates thru them.

A 4x5 negative can make almost anything look good. And a simple meniscus lens (set up like in that box camera, behind the aperture/shutter and concave toward the world) can do a very competent job -- that's why my Brownie Hawkeye Flash (6x6 on 620) is my favorite old simple camera. Combine the two and it's pretty easy to get good results.

I have many of the Brownie Hawkeye is 6x6 and love them- I also have found over the years to never underestimate a meniscus lens!

Stephen really enjoyed this video and its successor with the Linhof. I’ve just gotta get set up again to scan 4x5. Thanks to Hasselblad’s abandonment of its Mac users, my 646 is gathering dust. I’ve got a V850 that should Do the job, thankfully.

The 850 is great and with 120 film is very close to the Imacon. Yeah it was a sh%#t move by Hasselblad.
