    What a film this was. That ending we didn't expect to be that emotional either. What was your reaction? Are you looking forward to the next film? Will it be good without Caesar?

    Rocket wasn't caesar's younger son. Blue eyes was his oldest, and Cornelius was the baby from Dawn. Rocket was the alpha from the detention center in Rise. Rocket and Maurice are Caesar's oldest and closest friends. Rocket's son, Ash, was the one that was shot in the beginning of Dawn, and later thrown off that balcony by Koba.

    This movie sits in a top seat among the pantheon of perfect trilogies.
    There’s a lot of imagery from Biblical epics, mostly connecting to the story of the Exodus, from being adopted and raised by his future adversaries, freeing his people from oppression and slavery, to dying before being able to enter the promised land as a consequence of his own choices. This movie is an Epic. It’s actually poetic that you guys released this video the day before Passover. • @peterlewis2178
      @peterlewis2178 Рік тому

      @John Doe It would be really unrealistic for humans to actually be completely gone. I mean, we were just seeing one very small and isolated part of the world, and there were still tons of humans, even armies. And even if the disease from War for the Planet of the Apes somehow managed to infect everyone left in the world, it's not like it actually kills people, just makes them mute.
      I think a far more realistic scenario would be that the majority of the remaining humans are just isolated in pockets and kind of rebuilding civilization from scratch, completely unaware that apes are even "smart". And likewise, all the places in the world where apes are would be building civilizations with little to no knowledge of humans or the origin of their increased intelligence.

    I love these movies so much!!! 'Dawn' was my favourite, but I love how this one plays with Vietnam War aesthetics to tell the story. The rogue colonel with his bald head is definitely evoking Marlon Brando in Apocalypse Now (Colonel Kurtz), and at the start of the movie the human soldiers have things written on their helmets which immediately brings you back to Full Metal Jacket, which was obviously basing that on things the real GIs were doing in Vietnam. So cool that you can see the influence of a whole different genre in this movie!

    The ending mimics our ancestors journey from the jungles of Africa into the wide open plains. When our ape ancestors found themselves in these plains they found less trees and so had to rely on travelling on the ground much more. With the lack of trees our ancestors could no longer climb high to get a view of their environment or any potential predators/prey, so to offset this they would begin to stand on two legs more and for much longer at a time so they could get a better view of their surroundings in this environment that was new to them.

    I have a hard time deciding between my favourite between Dawn and War. This movie was great because Caesar's morals were really tested this time around with the killing of his wife and son. It was a great story arc for this character. All he wanted was a life of peace but the worst of both societies (Koba and the human villains) would just not let that happen.
    What a beautiful ending that Caesar gets his family to their Promised Land but never got to enjoy it himself.
    Also, Bad Ape was for me a great addition. Important to know there are likely other Apes like him that survived and will join the new Ape society.

    The war with McCullough’s men had gone on for 2 years, but Dawn established that 10 years had gone by since the apes had moved to the redwoods at the end of Rise, so 5 years have passed since Dawn, and the fighting has been for the last 2.
    Caesar’s story echos that of Moses. He’s raised by the ruling class when his blood is that of the lower (Caesar raised by humans but he’s an ape), he learns his heritage and chooses to join them instead of staying with those who raised him (Caesar choosing to stay in the primate facility), he shows them miracles (being able to speak and think like a human), helps them rise up and flee the kingdom they’re oppressed in while avoiding plagues (the apes stampeding to the redwoods in Rise as the virus starts to spread), must deal with a rebellion when his leadership is questioned (Koba’s war was sort of the golden calf), and then once he leads his people to their promised land, cannot stay with them to enjoy it himself. Don’t know how intentional it was, but Caesar was ape Moses.

    I saw the Mark Wahlberg one in theaters,too. It was dreadful. So I was thrilled that this trilogy did the franchise justice. I read the book and I have the original Apes movies all on BD. Along with the documentary on the making of. I even watched the TV series. Massive fan here. Can't wait for the next one. You three did an outstanding reaction. I always love listening to your opinions and insights.

    Fun fact, when you referenced Charlton Heston saying "YOU MANIACS YOU BLEW IT UP!" that line is spoken at fhe base to look as if he's screaming about the apes, but in fact the jntention is that he's referring to humanity ruining their world themselves

    If I remember correctly from the original and prior films, the humans who are enslaved in the new ape world don’t speak and so this movie was giving an explanation to why they don’t speak in the future. The virus had mutated and was causing humans to be mute and almost revert to being animals while apes progress into become more human.

    I just realized the girl is Nova! Didn't catch that the first time around watching! Guess that's the setup and she'll meet the astronaut (Charleton Heston's character from the original movie). Been waiting to see if they'd come full circle to the all the teasers about the lost astronauts (newspaper and TV news) from Rise of the Planet of the Apes.

    This trilogy was supposed to mirror a lot of biblical themes. Caesar is supposed to be mozes. Freeing his people from slavery and leading them through a long desert to the promise land. Just as Mozes lead the Jews out of Egypt. And just like Mozes, Caesar is forbidden from entering the promise land as a punishment from God for being temperamental.
    Clues of biblical connections are seen in all three movies. In the 2nd movie, the Apes have 10 rules written on a rock in chalk. "Ape must not kill ape", etc. This is meant to symbolize the 10 commandments. Then again in this movie, when Ceasar is out on the cross in the cold, it is supposed to be like Jesus nailed to the cross. And then Caesar regaining strength in the morning is like him being reborn. I am not very religious, but the parelles in this trilogy were excellently done.

    • @jawbone78
      @jawbone78 Рік тому +2

      The third film really makes that connection explicit, but yeah, Caesar's story is a retelling of the story of Moses. He's raised among the people who have enslaved his people and does not understand who he is. When he learns who he really is, he goes into exile and lives among his people, trying to raise a family and live in peace, until finally he is compelled to fight for the freedom of all his people. Finally, he is saved by an act of God that destroys his enemies and saves his people, after which he leads them to the promised land where he dies as they finally reach it.
      It's not a perfect 1:1, obviously, but the parallels are there and clearly intentional.

    • @wisemanofsorts6068
      @wisemanofsorts6068 Рік тому +1

      @@jawbone78Great points. Yeah, as you said, not a perfect retelling. But once I realized the parallels, it added new levels to my enjoyment of the trilogy.

    I never expected to like these films. I love the original films, all 5 of them. After the horrible 2001 remake I avoided watching this trilogy with all of my being. But after being promised that they were in no way associated with prior failure of 2001, and that they told a different but equally interesting story compared to the originals, I finally decided to give them a try. No regrets. I was impressed beyond measure at how sadly realistic such an outcome could be and truly enjoyed every aspect of these movies.

    So many call backs to the original Planet of The Apes, Cornelius, (original scientist from Planet of The Apes - Roddy Mcdowall _Called Charlton Heston Bright Eyes). The Doll she is carrying is the doll from the original as well. It proves to the Ape Scientist that man was here first. Nova is the little girls name, and grown up she falls in love with Charlton Heston. The crucified apes are used to keep others from the Forbidden Zone in the original. The lake is where Heston's ship crashed down. Lots of call backs. Great series. GREAT REACTION GENTLEMEN.

    Andy is the best Caesar out of all the movies but my 2nd favorite ape has to be Tim Roth as General Thade. The Tim Burton movie was ok but his General Thade scared the crap out of me. He was so good. You guys should watch that one anyways.
