  • How to install a steering wheel in a Honda s2000. Step by step instructions on how to install an OMP Superquadro Racing Steering wheel, NRG Short Hub, and NRG Quick release in a Honda S2000. I was really pleased with how this came out. This is an excellent wheel for use in my S2000 dedicated track car.
    Part numbers that I used:
    NRG Short Hub: "SRK-131H"
    Available here: amzn.to/3q1Vtif
    NRG Quick Release Gen 3.0: "SRK-650BK"
    Available here: amzn.to/35ohT3M
    OMP Superquadro Steering Wheel(330X290): "OD1990-NN"
    Available here: amzn.to/3q3BZdc
    MOMO Steering Wheel Replacement Screw Set: "MOMO-SWSCREW10"
    Available here: amzn.to/3q2aS2c
    This actually wasn't needed as my steering wheel came with screws!

    Just a heads up. This type of racing steering wheel material, alcantara or suede, is meant to be used with racing gloves. If you don’t use them it’ll soon become an ugly matted down mess from the oils on your hands.

    • @OvertakeVideo
      @OvertakeVideo  6 років тому +22

      This is what I thought too intially! It kept me from getting an alcantara steering wheel in a street car for a long time. Who wants to wear gloves in a street car?! However, my Porsche GT3 came with an alcantara wheel and shift knob. Both were matted and looked pretty bad from many thousands of miles of street use with no gloves. it was so bad I was about to shell out over $1k for a new wheel-- but a buddy of mine is a detailer and he used some cleaner and a soft cloth on it and it looks good as new. I did further research on it, and as long as you clean it regularly(every 10k miles or so) with the right cleaner, it actually holds up better than a smooth leather wheel. I would never have believed it if I hadn't seen it for myself.

    • @MaXGTS1
      @MaXGTS1 6 років тому +1

      Yes, if you take the time to clean it it should keep it looking good much longer. I'd like to change my s2000 wheel but would like to keep the same distance from the dash to the rim. Wondering what the lowest profile quick release would be. Btw, I have that same OMP wheel on my PC sim racing rig. Nice choice.

      I stopped caring after a while, I noticed some race cars have ugly alcantara wheels too, after all they don't wear gloves just to move the cars in and out of the garage.

    did you have any issues with the width of the sparco seat when using buddy club low-down rails? I was not able to mount up my evo 2 plus using buddy club rails. just too wide it seems. I ended up fabbing my own brackets...

    • @OvertakeVideo
      @OvertakeVideo  7 років тому

      I actually have a separate video that details my Sparco Circuit 2 seat installation. Long story short: If I was shorter and didn't have to have the seat mounted as far back away from the steering wheel and pedals as I do, the Circuit 2 would be no problem with the buddy club rails. To get the seat back as far as i wanted, i had to trim the right side thigh bolster of the Seat and i had to trim the S2000 hardtop where the left (drivers side) halo wing hits the hardtop. I also was not able to get the Circuit 2 as low with the buddy club rails as with my previous, more narrow, Recaro Pole Position seat.

    • @OvertakeVideo
      @OvertakeVideo  6 років тому

      Just an update:Ii have now gone to the PCI seat mount and it is much better than the buddy club rails.

    The wheel seems to flex a little forth and back when you put it on, and I mean around the hand positions. It is a genuine wheel right? Not ebay version? Would you say it has a little flex or you didnt notice any at all?

    • @OvertakeVideo
      @OvertakeVideo  6 років тому

      Sunny this is a genuine OMP wheel not an eBay knockoff. I think it looks more flexible in the video than it actually is. I was pulling on it really hard to make it flex like that. I have never noticed anything like that when driving it -even under extreme g force situations on track. This wheel is excellent. Thanks for your comment!

    Since you've been running your quick release for a couple years now, has it developed any play at all? The only thing that stops me from purchasing a NRG unit is the long term durability of the unit in terms of excess play. Input would be much appreciated.

    You lose the ability to use cruise control with this wheel?
    Any options for retaining function while keeping quick release?

    • @OvertakeVideo
      @OvertakeVideo  3 роки тому +1

      Yes you are correct-you will lose cruise control. I am sure someone smarter than me would be able to figure out a way to keep it, but mine is a track car so I never use the cruise anyway:)

    can you use any steering wheel (sparco, nrg, momo, etc) or does it have to be that specific one?

    • @OvertakeVideo
      @OvertakeVideo  5 років тому

      Alex Castro this should work for other wheels as well. You will want to double check with the seller, but the bolt pattern to attach the wheel just needs to be the same.

    thanks

    • @OvertakeVideo
      @OvertakeVideo  6 років тому +1

      This steering wheel is excellent on the track. I do believe in the end the steering wheel is a little bit closer to you than the stock one was. The flat bottom gives me additional knee clearance for heel/toe downshifting and (unless you get the car really out of shape or you are maneuvering around at low speed in the paddock/pits)you never put your hands on that flat part of the wheel. Here are all of the parts I used:
      NRG Short Hub: "SRK-131H"
      NRG Quick Release Gen 3.0: "SRK-650BK"
      OMP Superquadro Steering Wheel(330X290): "OD1990-NN"

    • @OvertakeVideo

      I think that is just because it is smaller diameter-I notice the same thing at low speeds in a driveway or parking lot.

      Juan2k yea I got nrg suede one like a month ago and so far so good I’m just careful and make sure my hands are clean might get some gloves depending on how it holds up, but it’s good so far. We’ll see how it holds up in the coming months... I like it so far. The wheel I have doesn’t come in leather, but if it gets bad I’ll just get a leather wrap for it maybe if anything or just use the suede cleaner and black suede dye I have to do touch ups.

      Darkmand8 so far it has been great. I have no issue seeing the gauge cluster on track. So far it has held up really well and I have not had any problems with the wheel or with the hub/quick release.

      Thanks! Yeah for some reason I interchange the two depending on the context.

    • @RSX06MM
      @RSX06MM 7 років тому +1

      Overtake is correct. The correct way is "lbs-ft" when expressed in Imperial units (what is commonly used in the US), while the rest of world (and all of engineering) use the proper SI units, which would then be expressed in "Newton-meter (N*m)". I think everyone just naturally says "ft-lbs" (I am guilty of it as well) because it rolls off the tongue easier and doesnt sound goofy.
      And also to Overtake, good video. But when you did torque the bolt for the hub, you shouldve actually calculated a bit more to compensate for the long extension you had on the torque wrench. The torque spec you had it set to, is for if the socket was directly connected to wrench. By adding the extension, you are losing some force thru the torque action.
