    Bro, I failed Algebra like 3 times in high school. Never made it to geometry or calculus. So to all those teachers that said we would not always have a calculator in our pockets, we have one, and it also can teach you this! Learned it in 5 minutes! Thank you!

    Thanks! I needed this exact information for a small shop project and this was perfect. Short, to the point, and very clearly presented.

    Thank you very much. I used to do this all the time in the year 1980 BC (Before CAD), 40 years with CAD drove it out. Can’t wait to go through your other videos, it’s great nostalgia for me.

    I like to ask my students sometimes to figure out how to divide a pizza into 5 equal slices, without a protractor to find the 72 degrees necessary. Using just a compass we could probably just about manage it with tolerable accuracy. But in a kitchen, no compass. Perhaps some tongs could be used instead?

    I'm guessing this is the kind of thing that was worked out by a process of trial and error.

      its funny thinking about how mathematicians do arbritray stuff and end up doing stuff like this

      One could also use a protractor to mark the exact points and then work backwards from there

    But first, you need too much digital gear. How do you get this onto a piece of wood for a practical application, instance?

    I was with you until 01:15, but after that, your use of jargon completely lost me. "Calculate the perpendicular bisector of the radius...and the radius slightly longer than half the radius..."?! It's too bad you couldn't use layman's terms for those of us who aren't geometricians.

    • @Steven-T
      @Steven-T Рік тому

      I can definitely put it in layman's terms, but how he said it is more concise.
      Draw two circles about three quarters the size, one centered on the midpoint and another on the horizontal diameter. The points where those two circles intersect is the *exact* midpoint of the bigger circle's horizontal radius.

    Didn't understand you. Starting right after the VERTICLE AND HORIZONTAL LINES. You say 2 points, WTF! Talk INCHES.

    Or you could just divide 360 degrees by 5 and come up with 72. Mark the circle every 72 degrees and not have to do all this BS.
