Devin Bookers defense has really impressed me this Olympics I’m really proud of him

NBA champion Brisset, thank you very much.
The issue IMO, coming from a life-long Suns fan, is that the Suns have so few tall wings. We need Ryan Dunn to pop off or we need to get some size on the wing.
Man if Dunn can develop as a shooter 🤞🏻🤞🏻
don't people say KD is a 7 foot tall SF
and Bol Bol is a 7'3 PF
U got Royce, little and KD on the wing including the rookie so it’s not the best but it’s definitely not the worse. Including josh okogie point of attack defender
@@justanobody0Bol Bol is pretty bad though
@@user-js7mo3wy4z those guys are below 6'7 excluding KD. They need at least a 6'8 versatile defender on the wing
I hate to hear that KD is going to be the 4 with small guards around him. I feel like the defensive demand is going to get this man hurt eventually
He’s just gonna be a turnstile, they need his offense more than they do the defense. They’re definitely gonna get clapped by teams with a strong frontcourt like Minnesota
@@ryanmahrenholz3944 you trippin
They gonna just try to outscore teams, they have like no defenders period besides the rookies they drafted
the weird thing is KD at PF is a much taller team than I've seen a lot of teams playing lately
Boston won a championship playing Al Horford as their starting center like 90% of the playoffs, and he's like 6'8
and then Jaylen Brown at PF, according to wiki he's 6'6
@@justanobody0 hmm no they play tatum at pf in those lineups, brown is the 3. Jrue 1, d-white 2, brown 3, tatum 4, horford/kristaps 5
It's literally just the center position. The west is full of amazing centers and we don't have a guy who can even remotely match up with any of the bugs in the west defensively

The only good thing about nurkic is that he does a good job against jokic. Besides that he’s honestly useless compared to any other center that rebounds bc nurkic does that as well

You don’t watch basketball
Beal isn’t coming off the bench lol 😂
@@DaMeaunhe’ll have to. I do not see Beal starting on this team by the end of his contract
He’s not 30ppg Bradley Beal anymore. He would thrive as a 6man giving them buckets off the bench like a Malik monk. But his contract is so bad that he has to be a starter.
Tyus and Monte are going to have a bigger impact than people realize. As someone who pained there way into watching every single Suns game last year I can tell you turnovers and lack of offense consistency were our main reasons for losses last year. We addressed both of these with solid PG attributions and a more offensive minded coach than Vogel.
Additionally we managed to move off of Eubanks who was our biggest hole in the roster. We also manage to pick up some decent young defenders that potentially could offer something. So the Suns really have an exciting season ahead imo. Best we could have possibly asked being a second apron team and Tyus is a home run in that regard
Spot on take. I watched every single game as well and came away with the same opinion. Only thing I would throw in there is the stubbornness Vogel showed with the rotations and role players last year.
@@TennesseeTip yup, still having a chance to hold leads or come back from deficits in non Nurkic minutes is a huge improvement we'll have with Morris + Plumlee compared to getting killed in Eubanks minutes last season
ryann dunn is going be the key to how far the suns go
He is completely bad on offence

this team reminds me a lot of the Carmelo Anthony OKC Thunder team
they’d improve a lot if they had Beal coming off the bench but idk if he’d be ready to buy into that at this point, but his contract is untraceable so they are just in no mans land
Problem with the Suns is that small ball lineups are dead, especially with the west having Jokic along with Wemby and Chet about to blossom into superstars. They don’t got the size to compete down low with those guys, and they don’t got a true leader like Dallas does to overcome that.
"small ball lineups are dead,"
Boston Celtics starting 39 year old 6'8 Al Horford at center like 90% of the playoffs
Boston Celtics starting Jaylen Brown at PF like 90% of the playoffs
and they beat the Mavs who got Gafford and have a breakout rookie starting center or something
@@justanobody0dman JB played PF?? Was it when JT played C?
@@justanobody0 cut the cap. Al horford is not 6'8 he's 6'9 and tatum was the PF not brown
I disagree that it's dead. The Warriors would still be elite if Wiggins and Klay didn't fall off a cliff for example.
@@justanobody0 brown did not play no damn pf lmao, and they also have KP who played the same amount of minutes as horford when he was healthy. KP is an elite shot blocker that can shoot the 3, something that’s very valuable in today’s NBA for a big. Tatum may be an undersized 4, but he’s an elite defender that can hold his own against 99% of all other 4s in the league. And by small ball lineups is dead, I really meant teams that don’t have elite big play or someone who can stop elite bigs don’t stand a chance anymore with the sheer amount of dominant bigs in todays league

Suns gotta hope for 3 things: Dunn taking a huge offensive jump quickly, team to stay healthy, and finding trades for nurkic and grayson. tyus and monte could be huge for us as it addressed one of if not our biggest problem last year, which was turnovers.
most suns fans going into this season are trying to manage their expectations after what seemed like a total flop last season, where we were initially in over our heads thinking we got steals on vet minimums. there was obviously a lack of chemistry, zero “identity”, and an offense being ran purely thru the big 3, among many other issues, but we still managed to scrape 49 wins.
with that i think it’s safe to say we’re one of the few teams in the west that actually improved over the offseason, so i am much more confident in thinking we’d be able to make it out of the west
Shit is easy.
T Jones - Beal - Booker - KD - Nurkic
M Morris - Allen - O’Neal - Bol - Plumlee

As a PHX fan watching last year Vogel was alright but that offense was absolutely abysmal. Even though the stats say otherwise, it can be BETTER. Bud is going to help figure out a way to maximize everyone on the roster, adding Tyus Jones and Monte Morris will make that job for him a lot easier.
yeah, it was constant iso ball, heavy on turnovers, and very little threes. Budenholzer and Tyus should help increase the fluidity of the offense and increase 3 point volume. Reduced turnovers will also increase offensive opportunities and put less pressure on the defense.
Thank you. The offense was so bad. Drove me insane
As a suns fan I have this thing called hope. It’s dangerous
Interesting perspective, got me thinking!
Beal to the bench, put a defensive wing in his place. Beal is gonna have to sacrifice.
The question is can they stay healthy? NO. Are they better than OKC, Dallas, Denver or Minnesota? No. Lack of a PG waa only part of the problem.
exactly. they also have nobody to counter elite big men, lack depth, their best two players are skinny, and there are teams that are better at everything
Lies. KD played 75 games last season and Book played 68. Beal was our only concern at 53 games. Jamal Murray played 59 games, but people still believe in the Nuggets. Kyrie was always considered injury prone (especially with KD on the Nets), now all of a sudden everybody believes he'll be healthy for the Mavs?
@@smoothsavage2870 the Suns main problem is that they are just not very good tbh. Teams need great defense passing and scoring (both short & long range).
@@vulcanraven9701 Honestly people are basing their opinions of the Suns on social media commentary and narratives.
The Suns are a good team that wasn't utilized properly last season. They had good defense and they added defensive players to their roster. If we can believe in the Nuggets, who won with ZERO players with defensive accolades, we can have that same courtesy towards the Suns.
And great defense doesn't always win. We just saw the team with the best defense last season get bounced by the Mavs in the WCF, who also have no player that's decorated defensively. The Cavs had the number 1 defense in the playoffs last postseason and lost. The Suns have improved immensely just by changing to a better coach.
@@vulcanraven9701 the Nuggets didn't even have a great defense in 2023 but they won the Chip with only 4 losses throughout the playoffs.
I know it wont happen but beal on the bench with a more defensive sf being in there would make things so much more efficient
7-1 assist ratio is crazy. That’s 14 assist to only 2 turn overs
Tyus Jones had such a great ast/tunov ratio bc he dribbles the ball at halfcourt till the shotclock is at 5 and then passes it to Kuzma. hes not a good facilitator hes just good at maintaining status which is why hes a great back up, he'll come in and not turn the ball over and holdit down till the starters come back but he does not initiate offense he doesn't put pressure on the rim at all, good for PHX but i dont think tyus jones is as good as everyone says. im a wiz fan i watched every game theres a reason we let him go for free thats all
Well, he's in a better situation now, so maybe he'll turn that around.
@@urbaindelva7869 he wanted the chance to start to show he could handle being a starting PG, what he did was be a good back up PG for like 30 min a night, he’s got a good role he’s not a starting PG, the situation won’t change that. As a suns fan I am still worried. Lol
Great video here, as a Suns fan I couldn’t be happier with how the off-season turned out considering how little flexibility the front office had, but I ultimately agree that it’s not enough. The main issue is lack of size, and I’m hoping some mid season trades get made to fix this so that the defense will improve. Also replacing Nurk with a real rim protector would be a genuine needle mover
as a suns fan, i just had a thought. what if we pulled a pseudo spurs twins towers type shit with nurk and plum.....
so plum, nurk, kd, book, and tyus. what do u think? dont harp to much on position just put the guys out there and play like backyard ball.
As a Suns fan, I’m just trying not to get my hopes up too much. Cause I’m pretty sure i will be disappointed
If this was the first year we’ve seen those three together we would feel different. Because we saw what they did last year we trust those other teams more
its the 4 position or a swtichable 3. not a lot to be desired. they are one piece away. also i dont know how u couldnt liek beals defense last year. he played edwards pretty damn tight for long stretches that series.
The biggest issue is deciding who starts: Tyus Jones or Brad Beal. If Jones starts, maybe Suns aren't done and find some magic deal to move Beal's contract and get a better fitting part.
Shout out Kenny for talking about the suns🔥🔥🔥I definitely think the suns shouldn’t be considered top tier contenders yet, but I really do think they have that potential. The biggest issues with the suns last year was that the offense got stagnant a lot of the time, there were too many turnovers, and the team couldn’t close out games because of those things. The team finished with 49 wins and had at least 10 or more games where they went into the fourth quarter leading and completely blew it. Having low TO point guards and coach bud, who is famous for his constantly moving “random” offenses, has the potential to make this team GREAT in the regular season. Low turnovers should even stabilize the defense, by cutting down on transition opportunities for other teams. In the playoffs though, when their small size becomes more exploitable and Bud’s stubbornness as a coach might hurt the team, it’s tough to say how far the team can go. At the very least, this is a team with a lot of potential and they should be actually entertaining to watch this year.
As a suns fan I appreciate the attention to our off season even if it wasn’t all positive- I think the main issue last year was coaching though. As much as the media thinks Vogel did a pretty good job, there was way more that could have been done in the half court with the pieces he had and I think bud will do a good enough job next year to make at least a 3 seed in the west
I think we are thinking like that because of the youth in the league and because the players in the roster have not succeeded in the past couple years in the playoffs
I think this team is constructed way better than last season and I’m expecting very good results. Championships are hard to win in the nba, there are 30 teams and only 1 winner, but if this team stays pretty healthy, I believe they can do it!
Suns gonna crush this year
You are only saying that you picked 4-5 teams that are better because the Suns lost in the 1st round. When Minnesota got Gobert, they were trash too. Continuity matters. Suns will play better next season and everyone will switch up
If makes me feel so much better when I hear Kenny’s daughter in the background of his videos cuz when my kids be going crazy in my videos I get nervous lol
Kenny, the reason to not feel confident is that the Suns in the 4th quarter last season just couldn't run offense. Like at all. Sure they couldn't guard anyone, but that isn't the end of the world if they score, but it looked like they were taking turns trying to 1v5 in the 4th quarter instead of running basic sets and getting easy looks. I hope that now that they have acutal point guards that gets ironed out a bit and the offense gets run through Tyus and we get a bit more off ball movement, but I am not sure if the ego's present will allow it.
“Not/a lot to be desired” count😂:
Great video as always Kenny, thanks for digging into these numbers and player fit rather than just talking names and generalizing like everyone else is
To me the reason they don’t feel as strong of a contender as some of the other teams despite getting better is the fact that their stars are all iso players. I’m intrigued to see what Bud can do and if he can make this offense flow better but even with the Tyus Jones addition I still see the suns being aggressively stagnant and iso-heavy offensively, and not to mention how bad they’ll likely be on defense.
Unfortunately just throwing talent at the wall doesn’t always work.
Regulating Durant and Book to iso players cannot be so wrong
@@HelixTheSaint It just isn’t conducive to championship basketball nowadays. The modern NBA is all about ball movement and quick scoring. ISO ball by definition slows the game down and oftentimes results in a less open look than the one you’d get with a flowing offense that’s specifically trying to open up a shot. It may win games but it won’t win championships, at least not right now. But who knows maybe I’ll eat my words.
@@HelixTheSaint they literally are bro
Still the ISO players agenda huh
@@wgnd1614 Booker and Durant are capable playmakers. And if you watch Booker you would know he scores at a much higher rate from actions
They’re short and defense is lacking. You can’t ask booker to guard the best player on the other team every night either. If only they could get rid of Bradly Beal
I think the net rating sounds worse than what it was really like in game. For the first half of games towards the end of the year at least, the starting lineup would have teams looking lost on both ends and they’d be blowing teams out. The lack of a system, playmaking, and leadership from the coaching staff had them blowing leads left and right in the second half of games. You could really see the potential of the big 3 in a lot of games and it never sustained because of many things. But I think it could really work if bud can coach them right.
They also have a couple of tradable contracts that they could dump for superior pieces like Nassir Little, Okogie that they could trade for an upgrade with some seconds for a guy like DFS if the nets can’t get any better offers
not how the CBA works
nothing better than kenny after hoop session
If I had to guess the thing holding you back is a lack of identity/game plan. Is the game plan just clear out, let your guys cook? The west is strong enough that's not very encouraging.

I think a big factor into the suns success will be how good their defense can be with tyus jones, bradley beal, and nurkic in the starting 5
As a diehard Suns fan I think Nurkic is our biggest problem too, have seen clips of him in much better shape this offseason though so maybe he’ll be better this year.. I can only hope
Nurk was awesome till he got his thumb injury. And he couldn't afford to rest at all because Eubanks was so awful
It would be beautiful to watch Coach Bud and the suns get a ring after Coach Bud, Jrue and Giannis ripped it from our fingers in 2021. Still not over it lmao and the Irony is that Coach Bud was born and raised in Arizona SMH
we are small in starting lineup but if the rooks pan out we have size and athleticism to go with the elite offense.

They need to trade Beal and Nurkic.
Having 3 guards on the floor has never worked.
I think on paper this a potential championship team but the real question is if the team will play well together.
As a Suns fan I feel like last season was such a disappointment and roller coaster of emotions, I think its just hard to point to the PG position and say if we get a good PG it will fix everything because even without your traditional PG we still expected to do so much better then we actually did in the regular season and then to get swept in the playoffs it just makes you wonder what the actually missing piece is.
Fingers crossed things go much better this upcoming season
It's stupid to think that you can win without a PG. Just stupid. It's a common sense move to get a real floor general
4:35 as a kd fan, I think you feel that way because we know in the end nurkic will be a liability more than an asset in the play offs
Kenny talking about my suns??? He didn't forget they existed?!?!
never was so quick to a kenny video man
Suns major issue now is size. Any team with big wings has a massive advantage over them.
Kenny gaslighting us into thinking the suns are good
the suns are gonna be able to make trades soon, they have contracts like little damion lee etc for a decent role player, selling teams and a couple 2nd round pics would help phx
if the suns could all learn to feed off tyus and let him run the show at times while the big 3 is off the ball it could be dangerous if they figure it out.
The Suns will be fine. They had an inconsistent season last year and still got 49 wins to get the 6th seed last season. Frank simply was terrible on the offensive end and was running bad rotations. Tyus removes KD, Beal and Book from playing PG and they can go back to their normal positions. If the Suns can end the season at 12th in defense, it can only get better for them at this point. Their offense will be top 3. I predict them being a top 3 seed the upcoming season.
I think it’s a 3 and D wing and a good coaching scheme there’re missing
The suns main problem is gonna be bench scoring and starting center. I think grayson allen is a great floor spacer but he isn’t necessarily a sixth man spark off the bench type of guy. Nurkic isn’t a starting caliber center for a team looking to compete in the west. They have to find a way to get a proper sixthman and starting center, With the few asset’s they have available.
They could start Tyus Jones and bring Beal of the bench (if he's willing to do it). Or start grayson Allen alongside PG Book
They got nurk because of the nuggets and I think that’s the best they could do
maybe Beal off the bench is the way to go, just so they have more scoring with the 2nd unit
or do some type of rotation where Beal starts, but comes off early so that when Booker comes out, that Beal can come in
Bro we have Grayson, Beal, Royce, depending on who starts as the 6th man. Don’t get me started on Bol bol, he is so good. Hopefully we develope him this season. Frank had wasted him. Hate Frank.
I’m impressed at the net rating of some of those Nuggets trios that don’t include Jokic. KCP, MPJ, and Jamal Murray at 13.2, the 7th best trio? 🤯🤯
The suns were absolutely terrible scheme wise offensively last year yet won almost 50 games and I think were 5-6 games back from the 1 seed. So you bring in an offensive coach in bud, get a true pg to get all scorers in their natural position off the ball in their spots, and got younger. I’d expect them to be a top 3 seed, I think top two more likely (Bud is a phenomenal regular season coach)
It would be great if you covered the olympic tournament
I don't see it with Phoenix. Older KD who is a slightly above average defender, Beal a mid to bad defender, Booker a slightly above average defender (good, not lockdown), then several mid role players. Adding a couple decent role player guards and no real center to compete with the stacked centers in the West. Still going to get slapped around on the boards. Their defense is the biggest issue and hasn't gotten that much better. I don't see a Beal-Booker-KD led team doing anything.
I’ll say this if they fix the 4th quarter issues then the team is fine
Tyus, Book, Grayson, KD and Nurk actually sounds like one of the best starting lineups in the league. It’s just hard to trust the depth, defense, and fluidity
That's still worse than the Knicks, Celtics, Wolves, Thunder, and Mavs
Their Lineups are way too small. Not enough rebounding and defensive versatility.
They need a real defensive anchor to hold them down in the post
Nah mentioning nassir little and not bol bol is crazy
I think there hasn’t been enough continuity. They’re definitely gonna be better this szn and i think they’re all gonna be motivated to hoop. Everyone on the team had poor body language because Vogel couldn’t do his job. It took hate comments thru all star break for Vogel to finally acknowledge he needed to make a change. And he still kept going back to his old system. Yeah Beal was ass in the playoffs, but you could clearly see the whole team had an issue with Vogel. I think now that they have a coach who can run real sets/plays, it will remove a lot of the turnovers/ empty possessions allowing the Suns to play better on both ends of the floor
I feel like they should start Grayson Allen and have brad be a super sixth man. The lineup just feels clunky with Booker and Beal at the 2 and 3 and Allen is a better defender and off ball shooter
When looking at the suns roster it’s still leaves me wondering how they are going to stop the opposing team’s offense in the playoffs. The offense wasn’t exactly the issue, yes it’ll get better with booker not having to worry about playmaking and just getting buckets but when they need to play defense who is the person getting the stop?
the offense was an issue, they were 12th best defense, but gaveup 18 points just off turnovers. 5th worst in the league.
Ahh yes Bradley Beal the wing player lol
dang kenny you do your research you got all kinds of knowledge
Brother saying that either beal or booker is a decent small forward is crazy
The offense should be amazing but defensively they will probably have some struggles. I don’t trust Booker, Beal , KD or Jones as point of attack defenders. Defensively they will have issues against most of the playoff teams in the West . Only hope is their offense makes up for their lack of perimeter defense. I like Royce O’Neal as a defender and Grayson Allen is okay as a defender but O’Neal is their only established player who’s a good perimeter defender. Will be interesting to watch
Their defense will probably be alright during the regular season and offense will carry them. They probably make the play offs (though the west is a blood bath). But come the play offs. Their center position is going to burry them on defense.
I think bradley beal is the biggest issue. It would be better to surround KD and Booker with solid playmakers and defenders, you could get a few good role players for Beal. Ik he has that no trade clause so it cant happen but I wish it could
If the suns have learned anything this off season it’s that they need more Olympic rules brought to the NBA lmao the lack of physicality and contact a dream for Booker and KD
there’s somehow a lot to be desired, yeah size. if you can trade grayson allen for someone like johnathan isaac i think they’re a conference finals team. I think the reason you feel more comfortable with like 4 other teams is because as a suns fan they looked like shit last year. there was some good but a lot of bad. there were more positives then i think the national media thinks. nurkic had a great defensive year, suns just got outmatched in the playoffs with size and depth. they got depth now they need to trade okogie or little or both for someone playable above 6’7.
