Education itself doesn't breed stupidity, but institutions and the individuals that run them sure do that routinely, and even on purpose.
It's better to study alone. If you have interest in something, you can learn in 3 months what others learn in 4 years.

Don't you think studying alone is more likely to confirm your cognitive biases? There are certainly a lot of people doing their "own research" online that fall into this trap. My view is that a lot of people reject education exactly because it forces them to question their own assumptions, and makes them focus on things they are not interested in, two key practices that are essential to changing one's mind.

@@jamesstephenbrown The other nice part about studying alone is that it doesn't come with the human "opinions" associated with teachers, campuses and collagues.
It's just you and the task of learning the technical aspects of the subject. And after a few months of that it's also applying to interviews.
That how I became a programmer, I just did a lot of knowledge crunching for 10h per day for a few months, and went to many interviews in between.

@@Leonhart_93 I agree this a great way to learn programming, this is what I’ve done also-programming is pretty a-political and philosophically agnostic. I think in the arts and even the sciences it pays to be exposed to teachers and other students who will challenge our biases.

@@jamesstephenbrown If a kid has no idea how the world works, "challenging their biases" can be an equally bad thing. Some filter and previous base is required before someone starts to listen to the opinions of a collective.
I personally think that opinions have no place in a place of learning. Just give me the supposed knowledge without the factually incorrect stuff attached to it.

Most people overlook that education is usually hand-in-hand with _behavioral conditioning,_ and that is usually utilized to create blind loyalty and useful expendable workers.
