One time when I saw CATS, they were doing this part and the actress who played Grittlebone was kneeling next to my seat. It was on the aisle and she didn't see my hand on the armrest. When she touched my hand, we both jumped and she whispered "Sorry" before she went on stage. LOL!
Main reason they didn't include Growltiger in the film was because of Sir John Mills's ill health and blindness. He was in no shape to perform the number.
I saw Cats on stage when I was 9 years old and this part always stuck out to me in my memories. I was confused that I never saw it in the movie and thought that I dreamed he whole thing. Turns out, I didn't.
Epsonthe Giraffe The same thing happened to me! The part with the Siamese cats was what stuck with me. I do not know why, but I thought the Siamese cats where Chihuahuas when I was 9.
@@josephdanieljirehdimacali4418 The original version was racially offensive as it was adapted directly from the poem, which had a racial slur against Chinese in it. This version isn't because they changed the line in question.
By changing a line in "Gus the Theatre Cat" from "He once played a Tiger - could do it again" to "I once played Growltiger - could do it again", the musical linked "Growltiger's Last Stand" to "Gus the Theatre Cat", in particular they would have the same actor playing Gus and Growltiger. In the DVD, the man who played Gus was a very old, and although was very good at playing Gus was unable to play Growltiger, so they decided to skip "Growltiger's Last Stand".
this is fantastic, only thing I'd have done different would be making Growltiger look more feline, but he def looks better than all of the "comical" GTs I've seen
The film version doesn't include the Growltiger scene, because they were trying to keep the movie short. Personally, I think it should have been kept in. It needs something to break up the sudden change in tone from Gus to Skimbleshanks.

They could've made the growltiger sequence a whole different thing like a memory, but id if it was budget or they didn't think clearly they could have used someone else as growltiger

+Adam Warren the main reason why it was left out was because the actor who plays Gus doubles as Growltiger, but they casted Sir John Mills to play gus in the movie and he was 90at the time and I guess they didn't want to have to cast a seperte person just for Growltiger.
