- One eagle-eyed (or should that be dolled-eyed?) fan, Rodger Sargent wrote to us with an observation that he felt questioned his JAWS sanity but we feel is a legit question…. Did Hendricks miss his chance to kill the shark in JAWS?

No John Williams music, no Shark :)
Hendricks was so ashamed at not noticing the fin he changed his name from Leonard to Jeff.
Yeah. I was confused about that. I just guess they changed his first name to the first name of the actor who played him.
First time watching the film I noticed this, and it always bugged me.
However, as the movie rules dictates -- no music cue, no skark, so it's most likely the cardboard fin
That's only if the presence is entirely known. We didn't get no music cue just yet when our buddy Bruce jumped out in the chumming scene.
That is interesting, but if it was the actual shark, I don't think the boat Hendricks was on was well equipped in killing it.
Not big enough?
They had a sh×t load of firepower, though! They would've been able to put so many holes in Bruce. They'd have turned him into a colander!!
Exactly! It was smaller than the shark.
I noticed that about 40 years ago :) And it's the kids with their fin.
As an adult, I was always aware of the fin (I don't remember if I noticed it at age 9 when I saw the film in 1975), and it was clear to me that it was the boys with the fin. However, as of now, upon close inspection, and as someone else pointed out, you can see a 2nd fin to the left (meaning a dorsal and tail fin)....hmmm, interesting. Either way, brilliant touch by Spielberg to have that in there
In all my watches in my 43 years, I’ve NEVER noticed this.
Wow.
Bro how did I not notice this in the 57 times I watched this movie in the last month
If you look closely, you can see two of the black bobs. One in the glare, one following. I think this is a clue, also, no thump thump. The thump, thump means the shark.
Looks like the dorsal followed by the tail 😮never noticed that before
I thought that was the fake one , first time I ever notice
It was a Loch Ness monster

Could be the shark the glare of the water from the sun hiding the Sharks movements & for the size it moves quite & quick underwater
Like most people i also thought that i had to be the kids.
How did the "cardboard" fin not just get soggy and turn to mush with it being splashed with sea water???
This has always bothered me....
maybe Hooper thought it was cardboard, but it was actually wood or something else
Thought that was he kids with the fin. Hmmmmmmmm
Again all the times watch missed that too
Was it Bruce or the 2 kids with the fin???
Is anyone eating this
Always noticed it, always knew it was the cardboard fin. I mean, thats the point of the scene.
The scale of it looks like it could only be the shark. Looked like a 25-30 footer. You know how ya know that in the water Chief? You can tell by lookin at the dors.. aw u know where I’m goin w/this
3 tons of em
First time ive noticed this and i must have watched the film over 300+ times ... my guess is its the two kids with the cardboard fin
Wasn't that the two kids with the cardboard fin ? 🦈
The pair of them very fortunate not to get blasted away by Hendrick's "buddies" !
Lucky Martin wasn't nearer, knowing how trigger happy he is around a "shadow" of blue fish ! :)
Brody acts like a rational human being in the original movie
@@andeed4200 He had a pop with the service revolver on the ORCA's stern, when "Bruce" came close by, thumbled to get gun from bag, by the barrels when that shooting star flies past !
"You OK Martin ?"
@@johnmcnulty1129 yeah but he'd had a few that night
In Jaws 2, he has PTSD from the the events of the first film, so when he sees a big shadow coming towards people, he sees it as a shark and reacts as a result due to some people being killed by the shark. In the original film, he doesn’t act like that. Only when he sees the shark up close does he even begin to be more terrified than before.
Have always thought it was the teens but unsure now because he’s looking to the left and that fin is approaching from the right!
If it wasn't the kids, it could have been anything.
Anything? Like seaweed, mud, something in the lens?
Bruce would have likely wrecked their boat
The brats with the fin need to be punished by Chief Brody!!!
No because Hendricks could NOT have killed the shark
I think even if Hendricks tried, I think him and that little boat would've become a cropper considering what Bruce did to the Orca!
