    Why the Kenmore "super roto-swirl" agitator on a Maytag washer? The Maytag (turquoise color) 4-vane agitators work perfectly great on a Maytag washer! I have an EX-large capacity Maytag washer (model) A-612 that was manufactured in 1989.... & it's still working beautifully, & still looks "almost" new!!

      There was so much that went wrong with GE washing machines, the timer, two speed mechanical clutch, motor, then later on a plastic transmission instead of one cast in metal.....and so very noisy compared to a vintage Maytag. No Thanks

    An EXTREMELY Awesome video!!! Lorain can you find out from your friend Bob what did he do to install the Kenmore Super Roto-Swirl agitator into the Maytag washer. I'd like to do the same with my Maytag A712. I'm also seeking advice to find out if I can use (5/8" inch belts) to increase the Maytag's agitation and spin speeds other than the 50 cycle motor pulley set. Again, your videos are GREAT thanks for sharing.

      @@LorainFurnitureandAppliance Glued onto the power-fin agitator base...what about the screw bolt the super roto-swirl uses for the cap...how does it stay on being that Maytag's transmission is a low-post drive and the super roto-swirl washer tranny uses a tall post drive.

    Wouldn’t making the washer agitate faster than its designed to wear the parts out faster?

    • @DandyDon1
      @DandyDon1 5 років тому +1

      I would think it would be more wear and tear on the transmission gears. With four additional capacitors installed, what is the initial current spike when the motor starts up, and how much warmer does the motor run?
      This was probably the reason Maytag went to a 1/2 HP motor over the previous 1/3 HP. I will admit the later Orbital transmission held up well in the 20+ years we had our last machine. Now we own a front load Speed Queen washer and dryer.

      Miele's are impressive machines. Matter of fact they are heavier than my Speed Queen!
      The Europeans (the Germans in particular with Miele) really know how to make a washing machine! Only downside is that they are freakishly expensive.

    I really wish they'd bring back these old console designs. I don't want a digital control panel with capacitave touch and encoder knobs - I want clunky buttons and an early 1960s Chrysler spaceship dash. Going to miss the porcelain drums when they're gone too, especially the speckled finish. Stainless and powdercoat have pushed porcelain out of the market.

    People have been modifying and 'Frankensteining' cars for decades. How much harder could it be to do the same things to appliances? I like what you've done here, I wish there were more people doing the same thing, wish there were cult followings and a matching support industry as there are for modifying automobiles. There are scores and scores of old, beautiful refrigerators everywhere. But the obsolete freon and lack of replacement parts renders them almost useless, prohibitively expensive to restore at best. Too bad there aren't retrofit kits made for old refrigerators, or support groups or clubs for taking the innards of modern units and custom fitting them to the older 'chassis'. I've got a '57 Philco 30" wide electric range, it's spectacular! But it sat in an old homestead structure out in the desert for decades. The insulation for all the wiring is crumbling and one of the one-off porcelain connectors for a burner is broken. I haven't had the time yet to look into it but I'm wondering how many 'customizing hoops' I'd have to jump through to take the inner workings of say a 1990's range and fit them to the Philco?
    Who else is doing this kind of stuff??
