  • In this video we look at the possible problems you can get with a mug press producing faded edges. We take a look at the element on my cheap mug press and compare it to Subliblanks Galaxy Mug Press Pro machine.

    Martin, I had exactly this problem using a 6oz mantle which was necessary for the bone china mugs I needed. There is a very simple solution, but a drag. Basically, cook the mug twice as follows: mount mug in Galaxy with handle resting on near edge of mantle and cook for the necessary time. Remove, but do not remove the transfer and allow to cool down. Re-insert the mug, but this time rotated so handle rests against far edge of the mantle. Cook again, allow to cool and remove transfer as usual. Trust me it works - or at least it allows good mantle coverage on the edges of the transfer and saved my bacon. Another issue is the screw knob which gets in the way. I replaced one of the four (back RHS) with a threaded screw, allowing better closure. Thanks for all your brilliant advice - you got me started!

      @owenjones9608 4 роки тому

      @@CarrionCrow993 Yes, works a treat. The key thing is to let it cool down (don't be tempted to cook it twice as long!). The only time I've had blurred edges is when I peeled the transfer off partially to take a peep! So it's cook once, cool, reposition, recook, cool and remove transfer.

    As they say, buy cheap, buy twice. I had a generic mug press that I bought about 7 months ago, and it started giving me faded edges last month (after doing about 200 mugs). Ditched it and bought a Galaxy Mug Press Pro after seeing you use it in your videos :)

      +Martin Butler yes probably should have. Galaxy shipping price to PR is crazy. Same with Ricoh printers. Not sold locally. Hard to get stuff shipped here and very expensive. The 1430 was highly recommended. The press is industrial quality. 2 year warranty so if any problem back it goes. Have clients waiting for mugs lol.

    Hi Martin
    Your videos are exceptional. Grateful for all your precious tips. Martin I've got a question for you. Can I use HEAT TRANSFER VINYL on ceramics? I purchased a 5 in 1 today after watching your great videos. To be honest, I started with a 9" x 12" heat press machine to make tee shirts for my 2 year grandson. Alas, my Newfoundland Club on seeing the incredible tees made with a HUMBLE 9 x 12 requested me to make over a 100 tees. I give the Club FREE tees in memory of my 15 year Newfie who passed away 10 months ago. The loss was so much that the Breeder suggested taking a puppy. Now my baby is 10 months. THE OLD DAME WILL NEVER BE REPLACED. I wish to make the Club mugs and plates too. Please your advise is precious and will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for sharing and caring. Hugs from France 💕👍👍👍

I talked her into trying mug printing and we have sourced most of the bits needed, we are looking to get the ricoh sg 3110dn printer, with refillable cartridges but was just wondering what ink would be best for this printer to use on the mugs, cheers and keep up the good work :-)

    • @reviewthat
      @reviewthat  7 років тому

      Are the lines on the paper or does it happen when you put the mug in the press? If so, put a layer of white paper inside the wrap in case you are getting a transfer from a dirty element.

    • @reviewthat

I'm putting the mug in when the temp gets to 200c the timer starts 180 seconds the only thing I can think of now is the mugs or maybe the heating element I've tried all different pressures 2 types of sub paper

      @reviewthat  7 років тому

      I use the Epson 1500W printer and fitted a CISS bulk ink set up as to save on printing ink costs. You can use the standard cartridges but it will work out expensive. I also fitted a waste ink tank so save the printer ink pads getting saturated. Before you choose a printer, make sure that they make a CISS and a wast ink tank for the model you are interested in. You don't need to change any printer icc profiles for the basic dye based inks I use.
