Whatever you want to call him. The King. The Man. The Master. The Legend. The Greatest. It doesn’t matter. He has spoken. There is nothing else to say. R.I.P. Mr D. You were loved. You are missed. 🙏🏾
What a joy to witness Joey praising God with the gift He gave him and that Joey worked so hard to return in greater measure. I can hear the Father say "Well done, good and faithful servant." ❤
I don't believe I've ever seen ANYONE play ANY instrument with this level of command. It can only be described as absolute mastery combined with the greatest of passion. Thank you, sir, for all the wonderful music... 😔
Thank you for posting this. I have always loved Joey's playing. I didn't know he was a brother in Christ as well. This was a blessing and a great way to kick off my day! I'm so sorry for your loss, Gloria. But we have an eternal hope in our Lord and Savior. In Christ we abide, that one day we all may unite in our Father's house. You will see him again! God bless you!
Can't believe its already a year. Love your late husbands music. And still enjoy listing to it regular. Wishing you al the best from the Netherlands. Thank you for sharing this.
Oh Lord, my God When I, in awesome wonder Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder Thy power throughout the universe displayed Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art And when I think that God, His Son not sparing Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing He bled and died to take away my sin Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art When Christ shall come, with shout of acclamation And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart Then I shall bow, in humble adoration And then proclaim, my God, how great Thou art Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art Then sings my soul, my Savior God to Thee How great Thou art, how great Thou art How great Thou art, how great Thou art
I was very fortunate to hear him in concert at Birdland's a few years ago. I will always remember his communicative force and ability to draw the listener into his musical world. Since that moment, I've been in awe of his art and was deeply saddened by his untimely death last year.
It's usually difficult to definitively name the greatest practitioner in their domain, but it's not difficult to call Joey DeFrancesco the greatest jazz organist ever.
As a musician and classical music composer, and former church choir director, pianist and organist, I can feel Joey's spirit in his playing of this great hymn. In all my life, I have never heard another artist that was as gifted as Joey was on the Hammond organ. I wish I could have met him, and shared a meal and some conversation with him. Thank you for sharing this video Gloria, and I am so very sorry for your loss ... Peace and Love! 🎼❤☮
_I'm a bit surprised to see that heaven has horizontal blinds and magnolia colored walls, but it looks like they've got pretty good organs_ 🙂: and man, it is *so good* to be seeing and hearing Joey. He's got the most wonderful vibe, always loved those blue and gospel notes, and this one is a *real* treat. Who's got more soul than Joey? - heck he had more soul in his shoulder when he lifted it than most top jazz virtuosos do in a whole set. No RIP for Joey D: no, he's as busy as ever keeping those angels groovin.
Gloria, thank you so much for this god sent video, Joey was beyond amazing and this video proves it, and his amazing smiles, especially at the end, this was so touching and the most soulful as only Joey can do 🙏🏽 I now will watch this every morning because it is so inspiring 💚 my condolences, I just found out of his passing, how difficult grief can be, but source never puts anything before us we can’t handle, I and hopefully we all know there is a reason for everything. We met long ago, it was 2005 or 2006? In St. Louis, mo, my boyfriend at the time, kevin Frazee had played with the amazing Houston person in Kansas City, MO and Houston loved Kevin’s playing on the drums and invited us to his performance with Joey in St. Louis. It was the best road trip in my life. Houston introduced us to you both, and honestly we were awww struck by all of you, we couldn’t talk much, we were dorks, in fact Kevin Frazee was very respectful of musicians and did not want to bother or talk to you much out of respect, especially on breaks. Kevin passed September 13, 2021 from Covid, it happened suddenly, and I have been in shock ever since, because he was my best friend and partner for over 16 years, he was younger than me, only 46, and the best drummer ever, hence why Houston loved him. God knows we all love and miss joey, and so many others we have lost in the jazz world like Duffy Jackson kevin frazee’s mentor and teacher, kevin mahogany was from Kc too and I just adore mahogany,m’a voice, Dr Lonnie smith, Everett Devan Kc organist, actually Everett introduced kevin Frazee and myself, we were both music students of Everette’s. I just wanted to send you a note letting you know how much you and joey mean to us lovers of organ soul music, I wish you abundance in all things you desire, health, love, and wellness in your journey. Grief has been extremely difficult for me in the last 2 years, but thank God, that kevin has many videos on UA-cam of his playing with Chris Hazelton, and ojt. Sending love to you sweet Gloria 🙏🏽💚🎹 angelica in Santa Cruz, ca 🌊🥁💚
Impossible impossible how much talent this man had. No way. Never heard anything anywhere such play …. That organ remarkably sound. But the master ?? Just unreal
Gloria, thank you for sharing this. I never got to meet Joey but his music inspired and in some moments mentored me on the organ. Gone too soon for us but happy to know I will get to experience him in Heaven. Blessings to you!
I know we all will never understand why Mr Joey Defrancesco had to leave us so soon but just remember, this was a quote told to me a long time ago(Never put a Question? Mark Where God Put's a Period. R.I.P.Joey!!
Gone from this Earth but his music lives on. Never ever be another Joey on this side of heaven.
Whatever you want to call him.
The King. The Man. The Master. The Legend. The Greatest.
It doesn’t matter.
He has spoken. There is nothing else to say.
R.I.P. Mr D. You were loved. You are missed.

What a joy to witness Joey praising God with the gift He gave him and that Joey worked so hard to return in greater measure. I can hear the Father say "Well done, good and faithful servant." ❤
how piano players can play thousands of notes perfectly from memory is beyond my comprehension.
BRAVO to the maestro - Joey DeFrancesco!
I don't believe I've ever seen ANYONE play ANY instrument with this level of command. It can only be described as absolute mastery combined with the greatest of passion.

What a beautiful music.
I met you in my dreams 2 days ago, dear Joey! You were smiling while playing! I miss you! Goodbye legend!
Joey DeFrancesco - The incarnation of royal divine voices. Jazz at its finest - love this wonderful organ pianist! - Thank you!
It's the third time I watch this video and every time I love it more.
Joey will always be loved and missed. A master and legend who has gone way too soon❤

Joey was unique. He knew how to get the most out of the B3 with Leslie, and made you a fan of that instrument. RIP!

Just gorgeous. I miss him all the time!!!! Can't believe he's gone!!!
Joey still makes me smile. Thank you Joey.

Joey touched many hearts through his music. Rest in your Power. Gone to soon but never forgotten.

THAT'S how you play a B3
Sounds like I’m at a hockey game. 😂. Just kidding. Joey is awesome.
Very humbling, great musician, sorely missed by many.....Erik
Heaven needed a organ player they chose....you
Did you go to HUBBARD TRAIL?
His organ sung.
Joey..,.we will see each other again
who is hearting these comments after he died
¿Joey era cristiano? ¿Creía en Jesús?
Joey is not absolutely sure of the melody.
