  • Take those robot-like KID players out of their comfort zone! Hit them with the Zukertort system - you will be amazed how effective it is at club level and beyond.
    If players think they can simply set up a king's indian defense structure and play robotically with ..d6 ..Nbd7.. Re8.. and ..e5, they have another thing coming when they face the Zukertort! Such superficial play often loses a pawn right out of the opening against our simple and effective set-up.
    The zukertort is ideal for colle players, London system players who play 2. Nf3 and Queen's Gambit players who play 2. Nf3.

      @@amiyrlewis153 Good to hear! Yes, it's amazing how many people struggle against it. The number of times you just win the e5 pawn after they incorrectly push it is astounding...

    Great video, the explanations for the fast majority of players is spot on, the zukertort has been played for over 100 years and still holds solid today, generally if you lose it will not because of a memory inaccuracy /failure during the opening.

    Good video. I’m a CZ player and have been looking for something different to play against the modern KID-type setups. I think I might just stick with this going forward. I have recently dabbled with the H pawn push/castling Q side but hasn’t worked well. I usually develop Nd2 instead of c3. Do you have other colle Zukertort vids?

    • @chessimple
      @chessimple  Місяць тому +1

      Thanks! Yeah, if you play the zuke anyway, why not play it against the KID et. al. It works quite well in my experience and you won't believe how often your opponent will just gift you a central pawn in the opening (it's really quite hard to believe, but it happens a lot). I don't have any vids on the CZ. When I played the colle, I played the Koltanowski variation. Best of luck with the CZ!

      @@chessimple thanks! I started trying to get better at chess later in life, so wanted to learn systems instead of theory. I found the colle and have really like playing the Zukertort variation. I have never played the koltanowski, but am familiar with it. So you like the koltanowoski better overall except when you played against the modern?

    • @chessimple
      @chessimple  Місяць тому +1

      @@theroaman8759 No, I played the Koltanowski because this chess master in the town I went to college in would teach his students that opening, so I learned it from watching people play it in the student union. The CZ is likely better in general and unlike the koltanowski, is also effective against the KID - a perfect system opening!

    8:50 What if after dxe5 dxe5, Nxe5 Nxe5, we do Bxe5 without exchanging Queens? Is the Queen exchange necessary for some reason?

    • @chessimple
      @chessimple  Рік тому +2

      Great question!
      It's not absolutely necessary - if we went Bxe5 we are still up the full pawn and have a great position (almost as good as if we took with queen) so that is fine too.
      There are two small things in favor of exchanging queens though: 1. We get material off the board in a position in which we have a material advantage. 2. If we take with the bishop, black can play Qe7 gaining time by attacking the bishop, protecting c7 at the same time, and keeping the queens on the board, leaving more dynamic potential in the position and more opportunities to give us trouble. (note that in the line where we exchange queens first, and then play Bxe5, our bishop is attacking the c7 pawn).
      It's not a major deal of course, the important thing is know that we can win that pawn!

    Thanks. How do you react when Black throws in an early c7-c5?

    • @chessimple
      @chessimple  Місяць тому +1

      Usually you can just maintain the tension and continue with your usual setup. If they capture cxd, the key is to capture exd and play Nbd2 to keep our dark Square bishop influencing the long diagonal.
