First of all. All of Akerfeldts material is compositional gold. He can write a melody like nobody's business. Either way, if you really prefer only metal, they are extreme quality metal. In my opinion, their metal is of a much higher quality than decidedly metal bands. With Opeth, you can't expect anything concurrent. Akerfeldt loves to do whatever sounds good, and that's fine with me.
I do miss Martin Lopez and Peter Lindgren but I think Fredrick and Axe are fantastic new editions to Opeth both line ups are phenomenal so let's enjoy the music! Long live Opeth :)
wow, this is quite old, 2003 I think. The TV4 logo haven't looked like that since then. Anyway, amazing performance as always from Opeth, best metal band of all time. Proud to be swedish \m/
I really like ths group a lot I'm just pointing out that they are not soft songs just because the guy isnt growling and theres no distortion doesnt mean its a soft song. Hence the empowering and invoking remark.
They could play the whole Damnation album and it`d be more than fine for me. The point is, a metal band, or wathever genre you addmit for Opeth, on TV. I wish it`d happen in Chile
Well Martin Lopez was really sick man he was having panick attacks and had a rare disease which started during the Lamenations tour Martin Axernot(AXE) usually played on those nights that Lopez couldn't eventually Lopez quit as he wasn't recovering Peter Lindgren wanted to leave the band as he said touring just took too much out of him and it wasn't fun anymore so well Fredrik Akkenson was taken in to Opeth who is to be honest really phenomenal.
You've just been unlucky, apparently. As the other guy alluded to, every album except Damnation and Heritage is predominantly metal, although some of them contain songs that aren't, and most metal songs contain sections that are very melodic and toned down. That's what makes them "progressive". They aren't progressive because they're balls-to-the-wall metal in weird time signatures, they're progressive in a deeper compositional sense where they blend heavy parts and beautiful parts seamlessly.
@TheSIKKS66 I assume they are able to play it, we're quite liberal in Sweden. But i think that the band are choosing not to play a heavier song because, well... Regular people who look at this morning program would probably not approve of that kind of music playing ;-)
I agree with that about the guitarists. I do think Axe is also more talented than Lopez, but Lopez had a really unique latin jazz flair that we all know of, that Axe doesn't really have so much. But I think Axe is more technically diverse. So they have their pros and cons.
You've probably only listened to Damnation or Heritage. Those are Opeth's only 'clean' albums. You don't have to hunt very far to find the metal on any of their other releases; especially the early stuff. If you like this style, but want a little more aggression, definitely give Blackwater Park or Ghost Reveries a shot; though you can't go wrong with anything by this group.
Like Axenrot's sound above Lopez's? His snare more pronounced! That's ludicrous , Lopez's snare cut through the music more so then any other snare I have ever heard. Axe, let's contend theoretically is better then lopez, even so Lopez's groove is unmatched by anyone. It's not about complex arrangements, it's about the pocket he creates, swells, and recedes.
12th song I've listened to with no sign of metal, or even a distant cousin of it. why are they rumored to be a proggressive metal band if you have to hunt for a heavy song?
ok let me just imagine that it is not metal why wouldn't you listen to it if it sounds good(don't be so close minded) and if you didn't like it then you have to see a doctor because it is not normal to dislike opeth
Because you like to label music without understanding it or seeing it in its context. And progressive rock is not a distant cousin to metal. More like a brother.

I wish in my country we could have a band like Opeth on national TV. That would be a miracle
Lopez you beauty. So much feel, and the kit sounds amazing
Omg he's so gorgeous.
the best formation of the band till now... i think, cuz i miss so much lopez and peter T___T
Opeth is the best thing in life
@doomedarkness best lineup Opeth has seen... They still are far from sucking, but with Peter and Lopez they were beyond epic!
I do miss Martin Lopez and Peter Lindgren but I think Fredrick and Axe are fantastic new editions to Opeth both line ups are phenomenal so let's enjoy the music!
Long live Opeth :)
@SHOCKENSTINE That's just mikes prog 70's side. Almost every clean vocal passage in Opeth reminds me of something from the 70's
wow, this is quite old, 2003 I think. The TV4 logo haven't looked like that since then. Anyway, amazing performance as always from Opeth, best metal band of all time. Proud to be swedish \m/
👍🇸🇪
Akerfeldt is really creative. . .he does death metal one second, then writes and spotlessly performs a song as soft and pretty as this.
Mikael is a underrated Guitar player!Top song!
this song is absolutly beautifull!
I love the Light effects... and the Band of course!
I just find my self melting while listening to this song
Yeah, I noticed that too, lol. Good thing they were absolutely spot on when I saw them live!
Amazing
these guys are spotless ha, the whole thing is just as pretty as the studio version
anytime.
it was amazing!!!!!
Can't wait to see them at Download in June. These and Dream Theater. Perfect.
Remember watching Nyhetsmorgon just to tape this performance. I was 13 or 14 years old and thought they looked a little cold, tired and nervous.
They were overdosing on sorrow
@@poisongodmachine3not enough coffee.
Yeah, I was able to get eight of the nine Opeth albums at my local Newbury Comics. (Morning Rise being the one album that I had to order online.)
I love this weak live version of the song. It fits so good with the lyrics...
I really like ths group a lot I'm just pointing out that they are not soft songs just because the guy isnt growling and theres no distortion doesnt mean its a soft song. Hence the empowering and invoking remark.
Dat bass!!
They could play the whole Damnation album and it`d be more than fine for me. The point is, a metal band, or wathever genre you addmit for Opeth, on TV. I wish it`d happen in Chile
It’s crazy to me that Opeth once did a daytime tv show lmao
thanks that was very informative.
One of the best tracks from the Damnation album
It's the same show, they just played two songs. Those morning shows go on for like 3-4h over in this part of the world.
@Pelleman666 They've only been there two times performing two songs both times.
When they were so good
i just like to see good vid of opeth and read all the best coments
@donangry What are you talking about???
This is Lopez!
They did this shortly after Damnation was released.
My god, i had no idea they played on TV4
I have newfound respect for "Nyhetsmorgon"
@Marshallga Hah. Later I realised there is Peter still in lead guitar.
ok, opeth at 9 in the morning....
what an epic wake up show
Et en Farnce, quand est-ce qu'on verra Gojira en live dans télématin ?
much more than a year apart
this is promoting Damnation, which was released in 2003
Watershed was released in 2008
The last minute got stuck on the light?
YOU'RE ABSOLUTELY TRUE.
does wiberg have on a batman ring?! amazing
fucken beautiful
@SHOCKENSTINE I've heard that more than once of their softer material, and, to be honest, I have to agree...
Well Martin Lopez was really sick man he was having panick attacks and had a rare disease which started during the Lamenations tour Martin Axernot(AXE) usually played on those nights that Lopez couldn't eventually Lopez quit as he wasn't recovering Peter Lindgren wanted to leave the band as he said touring just took too much out of him and it wasn't fun anymore so well Fredrik Akkenson was taken in to Opeth who is to be honest really phenomenal.
what happened to Martin and Peter?
yes indeed :)
Ah, I thought he was referring to this specific show, my mistake :)
This version is missing the best part :-s
Is it just me or do they have a much better clean tone here than with the recent "Burden" appearance?
Well, they will be playing live in Chile in April... AND HERE IN BRAZIL TOO!
And I'm gonna see them!!! YES!
... I think that TV4 Nyheterna (Swedish morning news) and Opeth has some relationship.
This is the fourth time they've played a song there.
I came.
Isn't this same show they played Burden and Coil?
3:42 .... cmmonn really? and it's a pretty easy part! lol
LeonardMcrendall i don't know if you know this but per hates cameras so being in a tv show probably was a little to much for him
You've just been unlucky, apparently. So... Did they play Ghost of Perdition at this show?
Daniel Evans that album was not even out at the time, and it's a TV show, of course they would not let them play such a heavy song, but would be nice!
I agree with that about the guitarists. I do think Axe is also more talented than Lopez, but Lopez had a really unique latin jazz flair that we all know of, that Axe doesn't really have so much. But I think Axe is more technically diverse. So they have their pros and cons.
verdade... é triste

whats that thing over the bass strings? :o
it's a pickup cover
neocitran12 how does that help?
+Zain Shaikh It covers the pickups.
@@shaikhchilliee it looks cool
uy , buenas pifias por ahi, eso es raro en opeth
Someone obviously hasn't listened to My Arms, Your Hearse
@heavymetalgod345 Actually FOUR shows
skill.
why is it fastened? original album songs have much slower tempo
still his live performances are definietaly great as his music is too
@eliceus
A band like Opeth? Sorry, mate, but there is none.
And don't worry, I liked your comment.
Mikaels face at 1:42
Lmao.
Hahaha
Don't get me wrong, the "new" guitarist is amazing but i miss Lindgren, thankful i got to see them when he was still with them.
James Hetfield said "never care for what they do , never care for what they say"
Fawk them all , we'll keep listening to metal \m/
MovoRi12 cringe
a Swedish channel
You could try Blackwater Park or Ghost of Perdition. Those are heavy as fuck and I think you would like them :)
Lindgren left in 2007
This is from 2003 or 2004
FUCK YES. \m/
would you??
I miss Johan.
Not liking the keyboards too much (3:43)
2:07 too😂. But sometimes shit happens
i guess so... they played burden recently
This song would be perfect for a SIlent Hill game.
@poisongodmachine3 who? Jennifer Lopez?!!!
I wish they played stuff like this in latin america tv.. :( xd
ghee mikael would have headache he would say he just plays whatever is in his head
Just think... Gangham Style was on GMA this week. What the fuck?
What are you talking about? Its all over the place. They have more heavy songs than soft.
And what about progressive rock not being a distant cousin?
so much better than heritage!
Like Axenrot's sound above Lopez's? His snare more pronounced! That's ludicrous , Lopez's snare cut through the music more so then any other snare I have ever heard. quse errou o a nota aos 3:44 shauhsuahuas se afobou, mas mesmo assim é bom! xD
12th song I've listened to with no sign of metal, or even a distant cousin of it. why are they rumored to be a proggressive metal band if you have to hunt for a heavy song?
You could get Angra to play at a morning show in Brazil, or Criminal in Chile. But nope. Not going to happen.
got...to.... grab... my.... acoustic....
Oh much better!
I got the impresion the wright their song with an acoustic
i wanna have channels like swedish.....FU my nationals channels :(
his voice still good in this song but i have admit that its not his best voice in this song. he sounds better in the album.
LOL
I just cannot comprehend how stoned were they on all those shows... i mean Mikael's voice sounds shit, Per's out of rhythm... marvelous... o_o
You're joking, right?
ok let me just imagine that it is not metal
why wouldn't you listen to it if it sounds good(don't be so close minded)
and if you didn't like it then you have to see a doctor because it is not normal to dislike opeth
I don't even consider Opeth metal, to be honest. Just a progressive band that utilizes all forms of rock.
i'm not really sure about the drummers
i think fredrik is a more talented guitarist than peter, though
Because you like to label music without understanding it or seeing it in its context. And progressive rock is not a distant cousin to metal. More like a brother.
