Celine Dion's Live Vocal Range (A2-E6: 3.6 Octaves)

  • Recently, you have seen me comparing Celine to several different artists. The reason for this is because I have found a lot of rare (and very good) material. Instead of continuing comparing her to everyone, I decided to just put all of these rare notes together into one video: A vocal range video!
    This video includes her FULL low notes (Not breathed air [except the A2 which I only included where this video would display her entire range]), strain-free belts (Not to mention I only included most properly mixed belts in the upper register), and a connected head voice (I chose not to use falsetto in the higher 6th octave, although she has a beautiful falsetto).
    Another reason for this video is to display how well Celine CAN maneuver from bottom to top (or top to bottom) with resonance and effortlessness. Her fully connected range (I would say [not including falsetto or breathed low notes]) would be about C3-C#6.

    THANK YOU for this! I like the description and do you know what, not only do I agree, but I'm glad. It's nice to see people realising she DOES belong up there with Whitney & Mariah. On instagram all I see is vocal trinity posts and even here on youtube. I think its wonderful theyre being recognised as a three rather than a duo. Celines always had what it takes to be up there!!

    The A2 is C#3, D3 is E3, Eb3 was also C#3, E3s were F#3s, the F3 was G3, the second one was C#3, next one was F#3, the next F3 was right though ...Idk why u said connected range which I assume you means also supported range, because an exclamation isn't part of one's sung range and many of the belts like on Eb5 and above were strained so..like..... Idk... but the C#3's were pretty nice even if quite out of her tessitura...also the E3 and whatnot.. but yeah.. Im not saying this to throw shade, I'm just saying she loses resonance and support above Eb5 and starts placing her voice in her throat and nose..
    Idk to me her range from what I've seen is B2 ~ C#6 or Eb6...

    • @Ornery0798
      @Ornery0798  10 років тому +5

      C#3 went flat and hit A2.
      Connected to the body. Resonant. The exclamation note and the A2 were used only where the video would showcase her entire range. I didn't use any strained belts at all in the video. None of the notes in this video were placed oddly either. That's why I made this video, to showcase her range with resonance and a good placement. Her normal range, I feel, would be around C3/C#3 - C#6.

    • @KitsuneMale
      @KitsuneMale 10 років тому +2

      Ornery0798 I'm sorry but I'm struggling to hear anything that goes flat a whole minor third from a C#3 to an A2. The flat note I hear is the "been" which was supposed to be G3 and ended up falling to F#3 ish... and the C#3's are the "Have you" two C#3's. I mean I don't personally consider exclamations part of one's range. Supported range is a whole new thing though. I will disagree but I see that you're her fan and you love her, so I do not wish to engage in an argument I feel won't take us anywhere. I do not mean this in a bitchy way either, I'm just saying. One example though, 7:46, E5. The sound was clearly less full, thinner in quality, less projected, smaller and more in her throat with a slightly high larynx. 7:27 the note had nice placement but then she used her throat and lost the support at the end of the note, 7:41 is flat and more in her throat, but the C#5 right after was quite nicely projected and resonant. So I stand my ground that notes above Eb5 lose larynx neutrality, support, projection, placement and relaxation. She pinches quite a couple of her upper belts, but some come out right too. They just become thinner and nasal, they're not bad per se because she's still holding onto them but yeah.

    • @Ornery0798
      @Ornery0798  10 років тому +2

      KitsuneMale I also agree with your disagreement about including an E6. But you know some of her hardcore fans would say "WHY DIDN'T YOU INCLUDE THE E6?!?!" So, I just did it anyway. Oh yea, and the BCYLM E5's have always been sort of throaty live, but it still wasn't strained. I'm thinking 7:41 was lipsynced, but it was placed in the mask. If you copy her technique and placement, you can feel vibrations in the upper mask (upper lip, nose, forehead). And 7:27 I feel vibrations in the nasal cavities. I don't think there are enough bad notes above Eb5 to conclude that she loses larynx neutrality, support, projection, placement, and relaxation. But many people do simply consider this because of All By Myself alone. Which is kind of unfair. Every great artist has had several off notes before, I would especially say above Eb5.

    If I'm not mistaken there's another A5 in the same performance. Was it mixed properly? What about A5's from I've Got The Music In Me and Le Ballet? Bb5's from D'abord C'est Quoi L'amour and Dans Un Autre Monde? C6's from Misled and Because You Loved Me? Can they be considered head voice?

      @Ornery0798  10 років тому

      The other A5 in that performance was not mixed properly. The A5 I used here was chesty, and I was proud of her. I Got the Music in Me and Le Ballet were simple sustained notes that I'm not very fond of. And I think those Bb5's were falsetto (which it doesn't really matter cause it's not at the top of her range), but I couldn't remember the names of those songs. Thanks for sharing! And there are C6's in Misled and Because You Loved Me?

    • @zeissfan06
      @zeissfan06 10 років тому

      Ornery0798 Misled from Live in Paris and there's another one but I don't remember. BYLM from A New Day show. She sang that note at the end of the song. Well, someone mentioned that it's probably B5/C6. I think she has sung a nice G#5 at the end of Paganini; not sure it's head voice or not...
      Currently watching her old videos and thinking her best vocals came from the 80's (which are always ignored by the way), recording session and vocal warmups...
