    I have been working on cars setups now for 30 years from RC cars, to real race cars and more recently iRacing, so I thought I would share some of the basics in this 30 min video to help you be able decrease your lap times.
    I focused this guide on the practical side of things instead of trying to explain all the physics behind everything as that would just be boring.
    Here is a link to the google sheet I used in the video : docs.google.com/spreadsheets/...

    I have watched and read about this setup subject so many times and in so many places, and your video is the one that has made the most sense to me by far. Thank you so very much for making this video.

    I’ve been trying to learn this stuff for a while and it’s all so confusing. This video actually gives me a bit of confidence to go give it a try. Thank you for this. It’s very well explained and put together. I really appreciate it a lot. If I ever want to reach my iRacing goals, I have to learn how to build a setup

      Thanks mate. Yeah. Arnaud wanted to learn more about how setups work and I had been wanting to make a video like this for a while so I decided to make after the prompt from Arnaud. I shared my setup with Arnaud for Jerez this week and did some practice with him. I always enjoy making setups.

    I personally don’t look to spring rates so much when it comes to bumpy tracks. I think the thing to think about when dealing with bumps is damper tuning…. the spring is naturally going to want to force the wheel into the track surface, so if you want it to follow the bump up and down you damp the spring’s natural oscillation to match the bump.
    Personally my #1 goal when setting initial spring and ARB rates is to have no more than is necessary to keep the suspension from bottoming out, then set the dampers to match, then fine tune. Because your spring rate effectively goes infinite when bottoming out this might mean adding spring rate to deal with bumps, it’s also why adding more ARB might increase overall grip if you’re bottoming out mid corner.

    This is great. I'm going to have to play with this a lot in the game to help my actual car.
    Whom ever built my Mustang just threw all the best parts at it to improve the handling until they reached a point that it doesn't handle any more. Now I need to start dialing things out of it.

    This was great! I always assumed that rake had a big impact on aero

    • @Crispy.iRacing
      @Crispy.iRacing  Рік тому

      Yeah I probably should have talked about aero as well.... Maybe another video, as spring rates and ride height do have an impact on aero and drag.

    Great video. I quite enjoy trying to make setups myself with some success from time to time. I’m always looking for nuggets of information to help me. I’ve definitely learned something knew about the difference between diff plates vs pre load so thanks that’s really going to be helpful. What are your thoughts on using telemetry to help setup your shocks. I tend to tune them first using suspension histograms to find a good baseline and then adjust the front or back slightly to achieve balance. I know it’s definitely not the be all and end all having a nice histogram bell curve but I’ve found it really helpful at times.

    • @Crispy.iRacing
      @Crispy.iRacing  5 місяців тому

      Hey Kevin. Really happy you got some value from the video. I have tried to tune shocks using histograms and like you I think it’s fine to start with that but in the end I tune for balance and worry less about the perfect histogram. I do think the high speed dampeners need some good attention as well for the big bumps and curbs. I tend to like the high speed bump to be lower than the rebound so that it absorbs the bump quickly but the when the car land on the ground and starts to bounce back up the higher high speed rebound value helps prevent the car from co tinging to bounce. Really important for example for the first two curbs at Watkins at the bus stop entry

      @@Crispy.iRacing this is good food for thought and definitely helpful. In fact I’d say it’s the best UA-cam setup guid I’ve seen for iracing thanks for taking the time to make it.
