- Geraldine Farrar (1882-1967), the famous American soprano, sings "L'altra notte in fondo al mare", Margherita's highly dramatic aria from the opera "Mefistofele" by Arrigo Boito, based on Goethe's poem "Faust". One of her best recordings, made around 1907-1909.
Wow...the technical accomplishment is terrific! It's more than that, of course.
Thanks to Arashi110 for posting, and to Nate for sharing... not to mention his always excellent commentary!
to meltzerboy: I don't think anyone who has ears will say that Muzio did not have a trill....this is rediculous as Muzio had everything. If you hear old records that do not reveal much it does not mean Muzio did not have trill. I wish you could hear Muzio live then you would never say so. She was in the circle of the very top singers and still remains so. Before making any comments make sure you deeply investigated the matter, please.
