For wondering how long you'd be able to throw these big pieces, and that it's a young man's game, you sure make it look easy. Another great video. I give my students homework by watching your videos. You're a rock star! Thank you for all the time you take to share your talent and skills.
Wow! I struggle with centering five pounds of clay 😂😂! But with everyone of your videos Vaughan I learn something that helps me. So today, even though I have presents to wrap and cards to get ready to mail, I will try centering five pounds again! One of these days I'll actually do it! Thank you for another GREAT video Teacher Smith!
Elbow on wall is great, or in Prince Albert city town hall art centre we were asked to figure out what weight we were comfortable with and throw that, them ball up a few more of that weight and add them on carefully one by one cantering each time before working with the whole shebang.
Enjoyed the visit to your outdoors. I miss the snow after moving to FL for retirement. Thanks for sharing your videos... a pleasure as always to watch. :)
I look forward to Sunday mornings, seeing what delights you have been making in your studio… Pottery is definitely an addiction that we all love to have, Especially when we have a feline friend 😊 🐈⬛
This is mesmerizing watching this urn, lids and handles take shape. Then you go on to make more. Love the whale. All are so well done and so beautiful! I think you are done and then I see the carving on the urn and gasped. I am in awe of your talent! Love your instructions and demonstrations. I learn so much. I think it will be quite awhile that you will be able to make those big pots. You are very strong to center that amount of clay and the talent in pulling it up and shaping them so perfectly.
Wow! You are truly an amazing potter!! My arms are too short and I'm definitely not strong enough, even with using a wall for support. I would probably throw a medium size, maybe 6 pounds of clay and then finish it off with coils. What you created with that 12 pound lump of clay is truly amazing! I've learned so much by watching your videos. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. 🙏
Could you make a dryish wadded paper (or whatever will burn off but not explode) pulp armature to go in the center of the whale,.which will burn off in the kiln? Is there a video showing the carving process, the glazing & post firing? Would love to see the finishing processes and the completed piece(s). Not sure which I enjoy more: your generous sharing of technique, the lovely Nova Scotia setting, or the cat naps..! Dreaming of one day installing a kiln in this NYC brownstone cellar.. will let you know if that ever progresses from daydream to thrown pots! Thanks again.
Did you say what kind of clay you use? I’d love to know what you think about having grog in clay when throwing, for a beginner is it helpful? I can’t even believe what absolute masterpieces you make with just your two hands!!! I was so nervous while you were doing this! It looks so impossible to do and I was so nervous it was going to let go on you. I have to say that you have such incredible advice when you said not to add water to your handle joins because the extra water shrinks more and will make it crack!!! How many hundreds of hours of teaching I have sat through and I have never heard anyone say this!!! I had an entire set of 10 mugs have fine cracks in the joins of the handles and I now remember that when they were drying I was worried they were going to crack so I used a paint brush to really smooth where the joins were and that is where they cracked at!! I was thankfully able to save them all but one but now I know why!! I can’t thank you enough. Sometimes it’s the little things that save us so much work! I hope to be able to buy a few of your pieces some day!! Thank you so much for all you do!!! I’d also like to know what you do with your throwing water. Is that a weird question? Lol. I recycle absolutely everything, including my brush cleaning water and I’ll like to know if you do anything with yours. Thanks Vaughn.

Thank you very much! I wish my homework as a kid was this much fun.
So great to watch you move the clay from a big lump into such a smooth and graceful piece of art 🙂
Thanks Susan.
As always, you’ve made some exceptionally gorgeous pieces. I really enjoy watching you work and your voice provides such a calming effect in my soul.
Thanks and I hope you are becoming a better potter too.
@@Vsmithpots Slowly but surely and loving every minute of it.

Just try centering with your elbow locked in to a wall. Good luck

@@keithlightminder3005 I have seen that but for now I am strong enough .

Thanks, the snow melted in 2 days.

Thanks Mel, my studio is nicer with a feline presence.
What a treat for watching while having breakfast.
Cheers...Freddie
Hi Freddie, nice to talk today.
Awesome as usual! You are a fantastic artist! Can't wait to see the final outcome.
Thank you so much 😀

Thank you, there is a photo of the finished pieces at the end of this weeks video.

Amazing Vaughn... I can barely center 6 pounds, I can't imagine 12 pounds!!!
25lbs is a real struggle for me but I have a mechanical helper.
@@Vsmithpots I see that... I might have to try that!!
Absolutely beautiful 💖❣❣❣ Gorgeous Piece of Art ‼👏👏😵😯😍👏❣
Beautiful!
Thanks

It sounds plausible as long as it is softly squeezed paper. Shrinking clay can crack easily if pressure points restrict it.
Master Smith!!🤴
Beautiful work!
Thanks
Fascinating - thank you

Grog is rough on the hands so use clay with a little tooth, fine grog. I use a B-mix Laguna clay cone 5 which is almost Porcelain.
Please show us how you make a sink! I would love to make one for my bathroom! Round or square... I'm not picky. Lol pleeeeease! ❤️
How beautiful
Wow
Thanks
Why don't you drill new holes in your bat?
I have been doing that, slowly since I have hundreds of bats, I also put new bat pins in the wheel heads.

I don’t think I took a single breath during the pulls, particularly the last couple!!! Cheers, and happy throwing!!!
I guess that means it was breathtaking. Sorry for the pun.
