Nice demo! This amps clean channel is amazing, never played it till I was hanging out with Gran Hechicero, he gets some sick tones running fuzz into it, thanks for the demo!
That is a very good question, You don't find many people with a Legacy that will give a straight answer.. Someone buys one thinks it should sound like something else and change tubes and then sell leaving the original tubes out .. I have seen Groove Tube EL34 I have seen Mullard EL34 and all sorts of combos of 12AX7 combo's .. I bet the 6L6 adds a nice bit of head room to the already cool sound.. I played one onetime with 6L^'s and it reminded me of a old Hot Rodded Soldano with kind of a PLexi tone .. I would like to know know the tubes your running and if your doing like some running anything special or if it it is stock and which stock because i like your Distortion Channel sound where mine had GT and i think half were blown or not working right and I went to Mesa 12AX7 and its too clean on both channels ..
@@donadams1505 thanks for replying! And i haven’t had much time to play it but it is super smooth, with a mid/top that really bites. It’s also a very DARK amp, but some dialing in can make it scream. It has TONS of low end and low mids, it’s incredibly full. I think this is from the 6L6s. Almost like plexi meets dual rec. right now it’s literally all Mesa tubes, all 12ax7, all 6L6.
Try playing old school on the clean channel using pedals for distortion and whatever else you will notice a completely different sound. Without using the distortion channel you will get a brilliant bright tone from everything you use.. I personally think that Vai played around with the tubes and found something that he never told anyone about, yes he used stock amps but when you use the effects loop the distortion channel is cut off so if you were to buy a Synergy module (the single model) you will have two extra channels that doesn't matter about tubes, that creates two other channels and the more you add the more channels you can have.. Of you have the sound you say I would leave it alone., I would try the mesa hight quality Mesa tubes in the vain stage(they have the black pads on them and the gain stage gets even smoother)
Tung Sol 12AX7 tubes helped on mine in V1 and V2 to tame the lows and brighten things up. I’m considering some drive channel mods to make the treble and presence controls more usable. As stock, speaker/guitar/etc depending, they have to be above 7 or you don’t get the bite. Great tones and playing!
Great sound. Thank you for the demo!!!
One of the best sounding amps ever made in my opinion. There was no reason for versions 2 and 3. Nice playing.
I found one at the pawnshop, tested it and snatched it up. Sounds awesome and ridiculously loud!!!

İ still have 2 pieces legacy and still great amplifier. Even Steve still performing with this model. Always on his rig vl100
I just sold Legacy 3 and keep Legacy 2 with VL100 (Double)
Really nice sound like plexi modified as versatility amp.
What tubes do you have in it? I just got one and it has Mesa 6L6s in it.

EHX EL34 x 4 for power
EHX 12AX7 for preamp
