It’s understandable. But now DJI is trying to differentiate its drones into 3 categories. Mavic is high end. Air is middle class and Mini is basic class.

Now this is the kind of drone review we all actually want. Not someone harping on about the specs when the dji website already tells us that. Fantastic stuff, thank you!
Dji does a good job sending these to everyone before release but I don’t love how every video seems the exact same. I’m assuming they’re giving a breakdown of what the first video “needs to be” But for whatever reason. This one seems unique. Great video.
It’s been a while since I’ve seen a good YT’br that really brings out the film maker in an audience - BUT yours does just that. Simple, clean & informative. No showboating 10/10
This was an absolutely stunning video. Great shot skills, and beautiful color. Heck, I wish I could take drone lessons from you. Thanks for a great presentation. Marc T.
Phenomenal job showcasing this hotrod! You gave me some great ideas for shooting. I just got mine, and I haven't been able to put it down or stop making videos lol it's too much fun
Loooooovve the color grading, editing, and sound effect integration. Well done. Selling an Air 2s for this. May let the M3C and Mini 3 Pro go as well if this is that good.
And… not a bad experience when you crash one! DJI is pretty damn cool. All in all it was a $85 fix with a 2 week turnaround time. I knocked the gimbal assembly OFF, and thought it would be hundreds of $$$. Not bad by comparison.
I was planning to upgrade to Mavic 3 Pro from my Air 2 but now DJI Air 3 is a better option for me. We love to see more and more real world videos like these and you don't need to wait for another drone :)
Just curious why is it the better option ? Ordered the air 3 yesterday but i think i would rather had the mavic 3 pro just becaise of the bigger sensor
Great footage, thanks for sharing. I just recently bought this drone as I lost my Air 2S. How did you find the dynamic range specially shooting bright sunny sky and ground underexposed parts? Would it be better than Air 2S 1 inch sensor?
Sold my mini 1 and ordered this yestersay . Sooo excited to finally get a drone i can work with the photos and film .. the OG mini was great when ir came out but you couldnt Edit the poor image qualtiy at all . Problem is im a fine art portrait photographer and dont know anything about logs framerates etc so now i have to learn how to Edit all over again
Is the cam ACRUALLY 24mm or 24mm EQUIVALENT. Because true 24mm would be pretty tight on that sensor, so I have to imagine that it's just the equivalent.
I had trouble flying the Mavic 3 pro last year on Taveuni with the international dateline close by. It kept saying i was in Fanafati. Have they fixed the issues??
Mini pro 3 does the same. Also we are looking edited footage with a lots of added audio. In a very scenic areas. Bring it to some normal areas, shoot a video without aftertouch and it doesent look the same.
help me out here buddy. i have the mav 3 classic so want to keep that for sure. should i replace this with my air 2s? i wish the photos were 20mp and not 12mp with that fake 48mp bayer, but i have my classic for photos so not a reason to keep the 2s. would you say the 2s is looking dated now this is out? crazy that this smaller sensor is better in low light than the 2s 1inch sensor and even the mini 3 it shares it with. that 70mm is also great to have as never had a two cam drone yet.
Your work is very Top, Congratulations Success always, I wish you a great week and all the best and stay with God, you and your family. A big hug from Friend Antonio de Águas Belas PE. And from Brazil.
I currently own the M2P. It's a pretty good drone still, but one big pain is the *ss is the adjustable focus. I can't count how many times I got home and realized that I forgot to adjust the focus and the videos/images came out blurry! Why can't they keep the focus to infinity. For goodness sake, it's a drone, it films landscape. There is no need for manual focus or even adjustable focus. Keep it on infinity or at least AF. I really contemplate selling it and getting a different drone because of it. is the focus on the mavic 3 also adjustable? what about the new Mavic Air 3?
One comment Benn! Leave the SM7B mic a little more bass or low end. Now listening on an Audio Technica studio headphone, it sound a bit like a walkie talkie. There's a lot of high and few low end. But great video!
You say you didn't think the Air 3 would match the standards of having a Mavic 3, but actually this drone is superior in several ways. It performs and maneauvers better, with the same wind resistance while also being slightly more compact, with a better thrust to weight ratio and longer battery/flight time. It also has more antennas and a newer/better transmission system with superior range and penetration, as well as a better RC and more software features. All at half the price. So the Mavic comes out on bottom from all those aspects, while only offering a 7x zoom sensor, and adjustable aperature. The sensor size and MP difference is more of a paper spec. Sound better, but in practice the output results are comparable. The 7x sensor is the worst one and is a small 1/2.3, and the least commonly used. It as well as the 3x sensor are smaller sensors than the 1" main, and have fixed aperatures. As for the adjustable main sensor aperature, its not very useful for photos. Videos, sure, but youre gonna be using an ND filter anyways, so you can do without it being adjuatable. It's also an f/2.8 at the widest, while the Air 3 is f/1.7, meaning that the 1" sensor loses any low light advantage due to being a slower lens than the Air 3 main sensor. If someone is looking for a multi camera drone under 5k, the Air 3 is just the way to go. If you only want a single sensor wide angle drone, and you aren't worried about a bunch of extra features and gimmicks in the software, skip the mini 4 and go for the mavic 3 classic. I think the key drones from DJI that offer great value are the mini 4k, Avata 2, Air 3, and Mavic 3 classic. The mavic 3 pro isnt a BAD drone, not at all. Its an amazing drone, but has bad value in the price for what you get. Especially when it's technically a last gen drone. Its definitely not worth 2x the price of the Air 3, when its pretty similar, and actually falls behind in some ways. If the Mavic 3 Pro was running O4/RC2 (and RC2 Pro available, main sensor opened to f1.8, ascend/descend speed was about 5mph faster, had slightly better performance on the 7x, and could switch sensors while recording, and had SDK support if using RC2 Pro, THEN it would be absolutely worth the cost.
Hey Benn, great vid mate. A couple of questions - how do find the fixed aperture..when changing between the lower-lit spaces in the forest compared to a sunny spot...also could you please let me know what you are using for the Nd filters. cheers + well done again. Dan
hey man! I didn't use ND filters for this trip, and I had to adjust my shutter speed if things were too bright, so getting that cinematic motion blur is a little harder with a fixed aperture. That's one thing I didn't like, fixed aperture is not the best thing.
Я разрываюсь какой дрон выбрать. Либо маки3 про или эир 3. Помоги. И да, в конце этого года или в начале 2025 выходит мавик 8к =) Жду от тебя видео с нового дрона
Thanks for the all the good info! I have two questions: can you charge the battery directly while plugged into the drone? And can you download footage directly from the drone, without the RC? Hope you can give me some answers, thanks in advance!
Yep you can charge and transfer contents directly from drone to pc using USB-A to type-C cable. Or you can take out the Memory card from the drone and plug it into the pc.
The attention to detail in each frame of your video is astounding. It's like a visual treasure hunt. 🏞📷 I'm also delving into cinematic travel content and I'd be grateful for any insights you can offer!
Love your videos Ben, you are literally one of the best creators out there! But come on… I Love how UA-camrs that sponsored by DJI all talk so positive and say it’s so light weight… etc 😂 We all know that if you backpack, every ounce or grams matter… this Air3 (720g) is not a lightweight drone anymore, might as well just go for the Mavic 3 classic (895g) and get that Hasselblad quality. My Air2 S is a lightweight drone (if you hike a lot it matters) the frame and weight is much smaller, sensor is 1”, better build quality (more sturdy legs) and you can literally frame the shots in the middle and crop out quality vertical footage from 5.4k 30fps D-log. I don’t see the big upgrade here DJI 💁🏻♂️ mid tele lens? Cool out of 10 shots you will use it maybe once…
Agreed, the Air is no longer lightweight and always increasing in weight each year 😂 (the original Mavic Air was only 420g). The sensor on the Air 3 is actually "downgraded" from 1inch on the Air 2s to 1/1.3 (similar to the Mini 3). If I were you I'd absolutely stick to the Air 3. Can't think of too many situations (apart from shooting wildlife outdoors) where I'd find the 70mm lens useful
Hi Benn, thank you for the informative video, love the content. I'm thinking of upgrading from my Mini 3 to the Air 3 and was hoping you could help please. What regulatory restrictions are there in Australia (if any) in terms of going from a sub 250 gm drone to this heavier one? I want to make sure I remain compliant. Cheers!
