let's be honest: we would all want this specific type of ability. not the ability to go back in history and alter other events, but the chance to go back in our own lives and make a different decision to change something we regret.
We have the ability to change our lives constantly. I just requires us to learn from our past, decide what we wished we'd done/learned/practiced/spent time on or with/... and then do those things in the present.
But if one did it right the first time (the going back and correcting it), that would negate the need to go back and do it better. But, I guess in this universe, for the purpose of the story, it just works the way it works.
This is probably the most powerful movie I have ever watched. It changed my worldview, and got me out of a toxic relationship. I have been putting off watching it again for years so that I can forget the plot and watch it again from scratch.
I feel like there are about 30 British actors that are in everything made in the UK. Nighy is one of them. Pretty much every actor in the Harry Potter movies.
True, I suppose all that reading the father had done gave him wisdom. That and fact that it's been in the family and he's seen what his siblings and ancestors had chosen what to do with their ability. So he gave the best advice he could to his son
"I can't kill Hitler" - Bill Nighy, who played the part of General Olbricht in the 2008 movie Valkyrie, which is based on a true story about German officers conspiring to kill Hitler in 1944. They were almost succesful...so I guess the quote is sort of correct.

This is a beautiful film with outstanding performances by the whole cast. Richard Curtis is an absolute genius and this kind of subject matter. Funny, touching and self-effacing. Wish there were more movies like this!!
I watched this with my late father years ago, I’d already seen the film so I knew what was coming… that final scene with his old man. Dad couldn’t even watch baby videos of us or anything from our childhood without sobbing, happy tears but hard for him. Anyway, the part of the film where they spend the day running around the beach stuck a real chord with dad and he wept and sobbed, then I cried. Then we hugged each other and said we love each other. He passed this February, I held him as he took his last breath. About time is one of my absolute all time favourite films but I’ve not had the strength to watch it again just yet. I know I will, but it’ll be when I’m ready to unpack some of those pent up emotions we all suffer through grief. An absolute masterpiece British film and one of Bill’s best pieces of work.
As the dad said: you can only travel to what you remember. Obviously you cannot remember the future, but you do remember where you came from (even though this would be further in time than you currently are).
While that makes sense, I wonder if there is still enough uncertainty that the son should have asked "how do I get back to the present" before trying it out. Sure, he remembers where he came from before going into the past, but what if he does something that changes things such that what he remembers is no longer accurate? Is he not able to return to the present and must now take the long way back, or is he able to but because he is returning to the present he remembers and not the present that would have been had he taken the long way, his changes in the past did not happen?
I absolutely love this movie. It’s definitely one of my favorites and one of my favorite movies having to deal with time travel it’s funny. It’s charming and it it’s just a really good movie
People complaining he went back to the future as if doesn’t make perfect sense. He literally just lived it, you can only travel between times you’ve been alive and remember. The dad says they can’t go to the future because they haven’t lived it yet. If y’all are that dumb your comment should just be. “I’m dumb I don’t get it”
Are they suggesting that at no point prior to that that he was not in his dark bedroom at night and thinking about his past and not appearing there previously? Wouldn’t you go back to your long ago childhood to see yourself as a child if you wanted to test it out?
You would not travel back as an adult in that scenario or be able to see yourself independently. Your consciousness would occupy your childhood body with all your current knowledge of the future.
I love this film.....even though they broke the established rules almost immediately.....his dad said you can't travel forward in time, but he does so immediately after going back to the party. I will assume he meant you can't go farther than you have already been in the future.

That could be interesting.. like, some cataclysmic event happens, so you go back in time to do something about it. Only you can't personally go back far enough. So you go back as far as you can, tell your oldest male relative about it, then they go back as far as they can. Maybe this repeats a few generations. But from mine, you already told me this 50 years ago. In this very same room at this very same hour, but 50 years ago all the same. I just took the long way back."

No it's because when you're rich, women love you for your money. When your income is average or below, it's rare for a girl to like you for your money so you get a much more genuine relationship. Also, not having to work can really screw up a man's sense of purpose I mean look what it did to Notch, the creator of Minecraft. He just ended up posting tweets that destroyed his reputation because he had nothing better to do with his time.
Yes they are. I would certainly use future knowledge to acquire money. However, whether or not I would wish to be recognized as wealthy is an entirely separate situation, as that is what causes many of the issues. Even so, I would rather be publicly wealthy than deal with the current stresses that my lack of money is causing.
Money does not buy happiness, it is true. Nobody has ever believed that being broke is fun. Being worried about making rent or getting enough food on the table has never been a good time. I don't think most people want to be stinking rich, just comfortable enough with a cushion for if things get sideways. Work hard, nice house, newer cars, a vacation now and again. Not private airplanes and yachts territory.
This series is best described as - lost potential. The premise is great. The setup is good enough. But everything that happens after this point is just so plain and vanilla. Sadly, this movie sticks to the most common themes. Such a pity. I remember being excited after this scene explained the premise. Then, being bored out of my brain for the rest of the movie. Shame.

Easy. Go back, get bitcoin rich ( cause noone will haggle you for getting rich out of the blue) Not like immense rich, but a solid 50 millions or so. Make a shop that sells whatever you like in life and just dont care if it goes well or not, have employees so you can work whenever you want and how you want..Basicly just be a extra and travel when/where you want, see the world. Now thats the selfish part ofc. Go back, get filthy rich, like people will kill you rich. Go on about making poor countries better suited with hospitals, clean water, schools and lean back. Ive always wondered why we have for generations been needing to give money to poor countries, yet we hear of so little actual change.. like where does all the charity money in the world really go?

If he can't go into the future how did he go into the future
😂
He can't go into the future relative to where he started from. He can RETURN to his starting point. It's an arbitrary condition of the ability, for the sake of a tellable story.
@ianboyle1026 thank you cpt obvious
@@Jafmanz Oh, sorry, it's just that there are quite a few people here in the comments asking the question for real. I couldn't tell that you were joking.
@ianboyle1026 I shall attempt to be less subtle in future 🙂
@@Jafmanz Yeah, subtlety dies quickly in the comments section. :D HAGD
