Jacy Bear You are not stuck with them. I just had a drywall guy come in and skim coat my textured walls and sand it. So smooth now!! Skimcoated my whole kitchen and dining room as well as scrapped the popcorn ceiling and finished the ceiling for $555.00 completed. My living room had nails popping out of the walls. It’s a 13ft vaulted ceiling. He rescrewed all the walls, skimcoated all the walls and ceiling the refinished the ceiling. Made the room look brand new for $690.00 completed.
B C I feel the same way. My entire house is textured and I hate it. I’m currently painting my 3 year olds room and instead of using a single gallon for a small room I have to get another one to go over all the spots I couldn’t cover with the first coat.
Hi Derek, Yes I'm still doing videos and have lots more to do, just need to find the time and the subject to video just like French or Colonial Doors. So when I get the chance I will do a video on how I paint them.
Great tip with the caulk! I just took on a horrible job, the walls are ancient with tons of texture from past painters just letting the drips drips. I’m going to try a thicker nap roller like you suggested
Hi good to c that your still doing good videos I would be interested to c how you go about painting French windows or doors with all them panes of glass
If it's in a bathroom I would repaint in enamel, as long as you give it a good sand it will be fine changing to water based paint on other areas and yes you will need to undercoat.
For incredible rendered walls, sand them first with a finishing sander. The final look is worth it. No more ugly 'pin prickles' in the wall but more importantly, a smooth finish to make that paint shine like a diamond.
Interior paint is not designed to handle the weather conditions so it will break down quicker then exterior paint would. It might look good now but it won't last as long.
Hi, Thanks for the tips. I have a sage "Suede look" textured family room, but want to change the colour to a gold/honey-yellow. I still like the suede look finish and am happy to have this appearance in the new colour. But will it work out?? Any info on how to do this is welcome as I can't find it on the internet. Thanks.
Suede affects is a particular type of paint used to get the suede look. So if you want to kept the look then you will need to use Suede affects paint. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
thank you, we have painted one wall, although have carelessly spread onto adjoining walls with a textured paint. After doing one wall we have found it too dark- do you think we can just paint over with an non textured paint and still retain the texture?
I would like to ask, What kind of brush do you use to repair or painting a fine texture wall from outside. I did use a cotton roller the paint didn't go through to deep. I need a roller than can cover the fine texture wall. I am just repainted the wall because it become dirty. Kindly help. Thank you
You will need to wash the walls first to remove the smoke and depends on how bad the smoke stain is you might still need to use a sealer first. Generally there are no special paints for textured walls. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
Apart from skimming what other option is there for textured wall or orange peel effected walls..sorry not sure what they call it, i want to get it flat as possible before painting.
I was using a low sheen paint and you can use matte, depends on condition of wall will determine if you need to use a primer. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
I have a medium textured wall. Once I was done I noticed all these tiny pimples. They weren't air bubbles. How do you stop this and what causes it? I was paint and primer in one.
With out seeing what you mean its hard to tell, either the pimples are spots you missed ( this can happen with a textured wall) or you put too much paint on and they were air bubbles. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
If it’s been at least 2 years since the wall has been painted & dried in. But you decide to re paint over with same paint colour, should you still back roll? The reason why I’m re painting it again is because I had some wires pulled out from behind the wall because I’m getting a TV set up & had to paint over the Filler Which was just a small section on the wall. However when I painted it over again with just a brush it has come of with a few marks & looks un even I did use sand paper before hand as well
You should have touched up the patched area with a primer/sealer first, this should stop the paint from coming off. Yes you should still back roll. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
Hi. Would you recommend spraying a rough textured or cement bag washed wall that has been previously painted before. Ive got a rather large contract with a certain department to paint four floors and i have four months to do so. I was considering spraying but the walls have been bag washed and then painted previously. Would you recommend spraying?
Its up to you, you need to consider masking time as it can be just as quick to cut in and roll. You do have the option of spray and roll , you may save some time cutting in the corners etc and dipping roller. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
What im really trying to determine is if its advisable to spray paint textured walls and they tend to use more paint even when you roll. And would recommend priming the walls even if the color is similar or can i bypass the primer and just do two coats. Thank you for your prompt response.
A screw driver may help smooth out the surface but caulking will fill any cracks and in general will leave a smooth edge to cut in to. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
You need to keep a wet edge to avoid picture framing. Painting new render is a two person job its the only way to keep a wet edge. Don't forget to Like, Share and Subscribe.
What if you want to paint the wall a grey or a different color than white, do you still use the caulk? I have the same textured walls and I hate them but I want to paint a different color. Also what’s the best type paint to use a egg shell? I have kids that like to touch the walls and hate cleaning these walls because of the texture.
HI: That was great. Question: What should someone put over the textured wall/that is now painted with Latex paint if there is some chipping or flaking. Something to like lock it down? Maybe a glaze? Or something clear finish? Thanks!
Jackie Gauthier Maybe try a sealer binder. It is best if you can remove the flaking paint, if it was an external wall I would say use a high pressure water blaster. If it is an internal wall it makes things a bit harder as you don't want to use a water blaster inside, so maybe try to scrape off as much as you can and maybe use a wire brush but be careful not to destroy the texture. A sealer binder will help to hold the flaking paint back but you should remove as much as you can.
I'd like to slap the person that thought textured walls looked good back int he 80s!!! I hate them!!!
Yes it can be a pain painting it.

It was a 14 mm nap roller that I used.
I don't really know as I have never tried it, it will depend on how much sun it gets etc, so it's really too hard to say how long it will last.

I wouldn't suggest doing that, you could end up with an ugly looking wall too.

Is there a way to get rid of the texture I have trypophobia and it bothers to look at it
Get a plasterer to smooth it out, as in plaster over it but that will depend on how coarse the texture is.

Mate where do you buy your roller frame and sleave from.? Can’t find them anywhere
M.V.P Lowe’s sells ones like that. Puffy makes an 18” roller frame and 18” rollers.
My local paint store has them.

You could sand first then use filler to smooth out the surface.
