The talk about the nuclear mission brought back a lot of memories (both in the F-111 and the F-16). Great interview.

Terry, interesting what you say about the limited range of the GR Tornadoes. In 82, some BAe Test Pilots I was working with at Woodford, told me that having found the F2 such a better airframe, BAe had put a proposal to the RAF to develop a homogenised Tornado to have a true swing role ac. Even if they had just given the GR the F fuselage plug, it would have added a good bit of fuel, and improved the view of the Navy/WSO. Too bad it never happened.

Fantastic interview, and a great reminder of just how good the GR1 was when it came into service (range not withstanding)

Good old TTTE. Did 2 tours there. Loved the place. Now an army base but I still live nearby. 😊

Great interview and a very likeable guy. Great to have a Buccaneer nav on the channel.

I was very surprised to hear him mention that his latest birthday was his 70th - I'd assumed he was a good decade younger than that, at least! Super sharp and a very likeable guy, I thought.

Great interview. Glad we didn’t have a nuclear role. Sounds painful!

I wonder what nuclear options DCS has for the tornado

Yet to hear a bad word against those Shadow microlights but they're getting very scarce these days.
Great that such a high performance jet guy can so much enyoy real basic stuff.
On which point got a glider flight with an ex-Jag pilot .... Loved his Jag, loved his gliders too.

The Shadow is low performance, but very clever. Had mine for 7 years. Cockpit is comfortable and a great view. As such it feels like free, fighter like flying. It is though unconventional in looks, so I've yet to convince other RAF types in our hangar they are any good. There is still a few hundred around I imagine.

Quite a mixed interview for me. On the one hand, the professionalism of NATO's nuclear units is exceptional, just as you'd want it to be. On the other hand, it still saddens me that as a species, we actively maintain one of the few plausible ways to wipe ourselves out as a civilization. Bigger question than this channel can answer, so I'll just stick with the first part and say great interview!

The threat of mutual thermonuclear destruction has been fairly reliable. Historically, volcanoes and comets have proven to shut the sun out for many a continent. Perhaps you should be more concerned with countries bio-engineering "who knows what".

@@jackharle1251 Without getting into long discussions, we've come close to accidentally triggering a NATO/WARSAW exchange a few times in the past. Not stable enough for me. Bio-engineering and AI are other scary threats too, but that's going waaaay beyond this channel! :)

*On the up side - This is a guy with a mindset which runs 'I had my ID stolen so no more online presence*
That is the level of care I WANT to know is minding our nuclear capability.
