    amazing german technology and engineering. I have a GLK 250 bluetec 4 matic for 8 years and it still drives like new. Steering is like buttery feeling. Fuel economy is great. 35 MPG average. Built like a tank. Many people may not know, this small compact crossover weights almost same like a minivan. Yes. Over 2 TONS. Yet drives like a breeze.

    You know, I'm looking forward to the next generation GLK ... excuse me GL'C' (Doctor Zee been hanging out with Ghosn way too much lol), word is they are going after the Macan this time ... And ///AMG could step in if the Macan Turbo turned out to be another success story for Porsche ... that should be very interesting.
    Love the video M, keep up the excellent work

    It's a Diesel ie a compression ignition engine, of course it has a higher compression ratio than any spark ignition car engine. That's the whole point of a Diesel. In fact 16,2/1 is not a fairly low compression ratio as diesels go, (20-24/1 is typical), but that's because of the high pressure turbocharging. Neither is there any point in making a big deal out of the fact that this higher-than-a-performance-car compression ratio is in a 4 cylinder engine. The number of cylinders is completely irrelevant when discussing compression ratios.

    • @aidan1585
      @aidan1585 2 місяці тому

      20-24:1 compression ratio was typical in the 1980s before direct injection not in the 2010s…

    Thanks for covering this one! I love that more diesel SUVs are available in the states! And this one is actually affordable, even for a Merc! And the compression is due to it being diesel, but I know you know that. Most others might not. :-)

    BMW have a net profit of around 10% (one of the highest in the auto business) Mercedes have "only" 5% net profit. The CEO of Mercedes set a goal for them to become the number 1 (in terms of sales) luxury car brand by 2020. They are in "catching up" mode. That is why they are currently the "value" proposition.

    Thinking of buying 250 4Matic. Chopping the fenders and putting a 3" lift on it. Make it an overland vehicle because, why not?

    Love your videos and the history behind the brand that you share. This film was not very informative though. The only stats given were of the compression ratio. You spoke of the mpg and cost difference of the 4matic gas and of the Audi but neglected to actually throw out any numbers. A simple base MSRP and city/hwy mpg number during the comparison would have been great. It's nice to know real world numbers not just EPA ratings.
    Thanks.

    I just brought in my Mercedes for service and got this as a loaner car. I was really impressed and considering this engine for my next car (either GLK or C-Class variant). The car just MOVES right off the line when driving around town. It's crazy responsive and there is virtually no turbo lag when compared to the C250 gas car I used to have.
    It's such an enjoyable drive around town and it almost makes me want to drive it normally (saving even more on gas). The engine doesn't rev high at all, I think it redlines at like 4 or 5k.
    One thing you might call me crazy for saying, but when you're wide open throttle and you go through a gear shift, the engine sounds like a quiet AMG. Seriously, I'm going to take a video of it and post it on UA-cam. I wonder what it would sound like if someone put exhaust on this sucker. I laughed so hard when I noticed that, thinking this little diesel 4 banger could possibly confuse me for the 6.3 AMG. LOL

    It is so cheap because it is produced for so many applications. Audi and BMW do not have the fleet sales like Mercedes, et al.

      Perhaps since you commented this (5 years ago) things have changed because all the rental lots I've been to are full of Audis and some BMWs but not a single Mercedes.

    That is great to hear. As for the lease I would really explore that option. Case in point the Chevy Volt has $7500 in FED and $2500 in State credits that the lease company gets when you lease a Volt. Those funds are used to reduce your money factor and increase the residual value giving you a new Volt for no money down and payment of $256 a month. I leased 2 of them and hardly use any gas which makes the payment. You are correct not all leases make sense but you don't have to worry about loosing 30% of the value of the car when you drive it off the dealers lot. Plus if you own a business its a write off. Looking forward to your new shows.

      Jon Car Hi Again . . . VERY well versed in the world of auto finance as well as tax implications. There is *NEVER* a time a lease is financially beneficial - no matter what fancy degree your accountant has. There are indeed very effective ways to write off vehicle costs & depreciation as a business owner without entering into a lease. The Federal & State Money in the case of the Volt are also on offer to people not leasing. As a car guy, my laser focus is on total cost of ownership - or you could even break it down to cost per mile. Yes, it is absolutely the *easiest* way to get into a shiny new car but one thing I have learned in this life, 'easy' comes at a cost. That said, as you may have seen, our show is really about telling a story and the 'vehicle' to the entertainment are the cars . . . For those you that are really interested in learning more about the lease v buy debate, there is plenty on offer at Consumer Reports, Smart Money, DaveRamsey.com and even The New York Times . . .

    Can you do more reports on average joe performance cars and more plug-in hybrids? You did a nice report on the ELR a few weeks ago. Also dig in more in the tech and power-plant for us geeks. Keep up the great work! Also would be great if you can tell us what we can lease these cars for. No one else reports on price facts.

    • @MotoManTV
      @MotoManTV  10 років тому

      Jon Car Hi Jon - Thanks for the kind words . . . As you probably have seen, we do a fair bit of tech and power plant films - a lot of the really geeky stuff is the domain of Mean Gene and you guys will be happy to know we have a couple of films where he goes tech coming shortly. Two other notes:
      1. We are now VERY focused on featuring cars that strike a balance of 'what we would drive' and what will get views. As such, we will not be featuring every car out there but at the same time, you are not just going to see Lamborghinis. Case in point: Here is a great example of average joe and tech: 2015 Hyundai Sonata -- First Drive with Alabama Factory Tour & In Depth Apple Car Play Demo
      2.) I am a car guy. I LOVE owning cool cars. I want ALL of you guys and gals to own cool, fun, tech, fast, efficient or whatever kind of car floats your boat. That said, I NEVER want you to lease a car. I don't care what your situation or what your accountant tells you, leasing a car is the WORST possible way to acquire a vehicle. As such, you will NEVER hear me talking about leasing on the show - except to talk you out of it. I don't paint myself to be a financial expert but should anyone want to debate it or learn more about leave v buy - check out Dave Ramsey.
