- The Angels of Vigilance chapter of the Adeptus Astartes has sworn a blood oath to ensure that their fortress monastery is never left unguarded. Is this simply a matter of the chapter being pragmatic, or could there be another reason behind such vows being made?

The number of Chapters who leave their fortress monasteries, then come back to find it blown up, invaded, infiltrated or corrupted IMO warrants a level of pragmatism.
And THIS is why I rig explosives to shit without telling anyone. Never know when you'll need to blow up your own base.
Doesn't the codex dictate that around three full companies are to be held in reserve save in the most extreme circumstances? Iirc that is how many the Ultramarines have in the second Ultramarines omnibus, and I assume that is because girlyman said so.
@@furiousdefiler7734 To be fair, it is pretty easy to ignore or bend some of the more "nitpicking" rules of the Codex Astartes.
@@furiousdefiler7734 in most cases yes which are the reserve companies 7,8 and 9th. But it's also rare to find these companies at full strength as they are normally scattered through the other 6 companies. Also depends if they are codex compliant chapters space wolves/black Templars/Iron hands (as well i think could be wrong on the hands) as a easy example don't have "reserve companies" I'm pretty sure those wouldn't be the only 3 out of the thousands of chapters that don't follow the codex to the letter.

I like the idea that the AoV aren't keeping watch of something that is already there, but are keeping vigil waiting for something that will appear. Maybe a prophesy or some kind of warp time warp thing.
I doubt that it’s a “maximum security prison” for the Fallen. But it COULD very well be a prison for those who came in contact with or might lead the Unforgiven chapters TO the Fallen. Members of PDF or Astra Militarum units who had encounters with green armored space marines of unknown origin, ship captains who encountered “ghost ships” bearing ancient call signs or markers, settlers saved from Xenos by a gene-enhanced knight in unmarked armor. Loyal, traitor, and civilian alike, who MIGHT have information about the Fallen. Those who can’t be allowed to spread what they know but are to valuable or the Unforgiven are reluctant to execute for no crime of their own (recent lore shows that the Unforgiven are “more reluctant” to outright execute loyal forces who encountered the Fallen then in earlier lore where they have been implied to flat out destroy fellow astartes who encounter a Fallen).
Most likely answer though? It’s a rare case of common sense in 40K as you have a highly defensible port facility that can furnish, repair, or outfit a fleet in galactic terms PRACTICALLY on the doorstep of a major enemy assault route.
Aaaaaah the Dark Angels. The guys who became so obsessed with their own personnal quest for "redemption" that they forgot they are supposed to defend humanity, not their own ass
@@Sir_Bucket The amount of bullshit the Dark Angels have pulled to keep their 'sins' from coming to light is potentially worse than anything the Fallen have done. Ironic in the extreme.
Cant wait to see what you have in store for us in 2020, my man! Keep being spectacular!🤘

All are interesting theories, but the "guardianship of a xenos relic" is the most intriguing to me. Mainly because it raises the question: what kind of relic is so powerful, so dangerous, then even the High Lords themselves don't know about it?
The fortress-monastary is a crucial defense installation on the doorstep of the Eye of Terror. If they left it undefended, the enemy could occupy it as a foothold in realspace and turn its weapons and manufacturing capacity against the Imperium. Protecting it suitably is even higher priority than should otherwise be the case, and it should be extremely high priority for EVERY Chapter.
sounds like their most holy quote is "things can always get worse"
Confirmed descendants of Practical Marines.
*Cypher:* they found the God-Emperor or the Lion's internet search history and are hiding it from the rest of the Imperium, because if revealed it'd be very, well, awkward. Something about falling and 'aeldari females committing lewd acts' most likely... Now if you'll excuse me I have to get off this account before the owner gets back and the Dark Angels show up.
Ah yes, the Emperor's last words:" delete my browser history"
Ah, so that's why he created those Earth Caste girls.
@@TheRampantLion Well I mean it's not like he could ask his good friend Malcador to do that, what with him being dead and all...

This video in a nutshell: "why are the angels of vigilance so vigilant?"
They're guarding the Fallen that the Dark Angels caught.
They get taken to the Rock, interogated and then killed
They are guarding individuals that have information ABOUT the Fallen and could talk.
They just dont go killing regular Joe's because the were unlucky enough to pass by some anti-heros that they are embarrassed about being related to.
@@iamalpharius9483 why?
They've stepped out of campaigns, leaving loyalist forces to their fate coz of rumours of the fallen. Doesn't really make sense that they'd tie up resources playing jailer when a bolt round through the head would see the job done
@@iamalpharius9483 it'd make a mockery of them lives lost if they went providing room and board to some random hive dweller instead of just killing them and getting on with what neads doing
@@tonysimonsen3228 nothing makes sense in 40k.
I'd say that they keep a Battle Company there to guard those who could expose the truth to the rest of the galaxy.
Think. The extent that they go to to keep this where is it and how long they've done it.......its not so out of the question.
It's a listening post. The DA cant be everywhere and need a way to gather information on The Fallen. A space dock/port where naval personnel and astra millitarum gather for short periods of time in a relaxed setting would be an excellent place for information gathering, assuming the entire place is bugged.
As well as its proximity to the Eye of Terror, its astropathic choir could listen to and around The Eye for information on the movements of The Fallen.
4:06 as you can see this space marine has the kill shot on an enemy.
"Bitch ass heretic"
There's another option for their "Eternal Vigilance". They don't know why they're doing it. Record keeping is next to worthless in the Imperium, unless it's seen as "Holy" it's going to be forgotten
"A pragmatic Dark Angels descendent chapter" That's... Very unlikely.
Given what happened with Cadia uhhh falling apart...and the cicatrix, it would be interesting to hear even in a short story about what happened to them.
Combo of your theories: The early, unsanctioned crusade that the Dark Angels performed on Pervigilium was them responding to an insurrection led by a very specific traitor "legion": one or more of the Fallen. The reason for the creation of the Angels of Vigilance was to secretly monitor the planet to see if any more Fallen are hiding there (maybe they lost track of one of the insurrection's leaders?), and/or to constantly deal with quashing any rumors or legends about the incident that the populace remembers.
The final resting place of a hidden STC that could bring about the end of the Imperium. Anime body pillows
Damn before seeing the map near the eye of terror, I didn't know medusa was so close
I don't think i'll ever get tired of your videos and the Chaos Gate OST :)
Maybe the reason why the guardsmen and not the Astarted are the imperium's true backbone is the simple fact that the Astartes waste too much time by claiming, storing, nicking and reclaiming artifacts from each other?
6:21- shoddy work by the artificer, look at the mould lines on that gun barrel
Warsmith time: a good examination Philosoraptor, but the simplest answer would have us look at what occurred with the Battle for the Fang, I am certain you recalled when the High King Ironhelm saw an opportunity to destroy the remaining forces of Magnus the Red upon a world outside the Eye of Terror. He had gathered the full strength of the Vlka Fenryka and called them to destroy the Cyclops. In his arrogance he left only one company to defend the Aett, which proved to be near suicidal as Magnus was actually counting on the blood-lust of the rout.
It's quite possible that these warriors simply do not want their fortress monastery destroyed.
Now here's a question that you have to consider, given the nature of the High Lords, why did they not send their attack dogs the Minotaurs to "persuade" the chapter into obedience. After all given the nature of those who ruled from Terra before Lord Guilliman returned, any question of orders from an Astartes Chapter would usually be met with sanction. Case in point look at the Celestial Lions when they challenged the Inquisition ( a move bordering on the idiotic when you consider the circumstances)
Warsmith Phobos Tir, signing off
Because poking the unforgiven is a bad move
I'm impressed he can pronounce the Ork's name without choking.
Hey man any chance of a death spectre video? Always found it cool how they keep watch over the ghoul stars to make sure the horrors there never bother the galaxy but I've never found much lore on them.
*Dark Angels do something*
Everybody : The Fallen
Probably keeping fallen captives
Do you think that the Potala Palace could be the first roots and foundation of the Imperial Palace? It's in the only such stucture in the Himalayas.
-inherited artifacts
blood ravens- what the hell does inherited mean?
they are not the only chapter that dose this, Raven Guard and Space Wolves will also leave a company behind to guard their fortresses...
I never said they were. ;)
I merely said they are one _of the few_ who has never mobilised the entire chapter for battle.
@@40KTheories we all know what happened when the Dark Angel's left a company behind to guard their home world monastery.... x3

I can 100% see the Unforgiven running a prison camp for heretics and chapter serfs who turned.
A very extremely awesome video as always 40k Theories.
>Probably dark angels successors
>Perhaps they simply want to protect their civilians
I cant believe you let such a glaring mistake slip through script proof reading
There's no mistake, both only speak of possability
Perhaps the Lion isn't on the Rock at all but is kept in this fortress monastery and that is what the Chapter is keeping vigilance over.
Adeptus Astaaartes
Love it!
[Completely irrelevant question]What would happen if the necrons decided to wake up during the siege of terra and decided to help the Imperium during the horus heresy?
Then they would probably demand the Imperium leave all Necron Tomb Worlds. Also, the Traitor Legions would have been devastated.
Just to help, Praeses is not to be pronounced Pr-a-uh-sizes but directly pra-ses (ae in latin was for the sound É in french, or directly pronounced as the letter A in english).
What is the choir saying in the intro? I've been trying to figure it out for years.
i think these guys are the most underrated Chapter. they're loyal, smart, and kick lots of Chaos ass! it irritates me quite a bit that there haven't been any official Primaris models for them and very little written about them in the way of lore
Hmm
It could also be a strategic system to control and therefore can’t risk its capture due to being able to fast respond to the Cadian gate and surrounding systems at will being an irresistible/ irreplaceable commodity
As in the Primarch that broke the Night Haunter? (e.g. Konrad Curze got "Baned") | 2:43 - His arms were reattached at that point. | So a similar arrangement with Terra and the Imperial Fists? | 7:50 - Ah, Ultrasmurfs and Raven Guard. | 9:45 - They know no fear?...They will, once they're done with them!
A video on Xenos artifacts used / taken / guarded by the Imperium would be cool.

Hey reim, I was wondering, you know how some chaplains are too angry to die or so? Well the meme or fact, maybe they have a battle spirit, the chaplains. Like, maybe a ctan who the emperor captured or that just infused with the soul of them? It’s a cool idea, maybe check it out?
They are heretics! (Slams head against exterminatus button)
The inhabitants of Perfigilium should consider itself quite lucky.
But on the other hand, they clearly aren't their to defend Perfigilium or its inhabitants, they are their to defend their orbital fortress monastery.
Imo, they should have 2 monasteries, one that is orbital and one that is on the planet.
Maybe even have a third that is a ship.
Working with the assumption that this chapter is a successor of the 1st legion, there some different options.
The Ouroboros. It is unknown what happened to this entity after the destruction of his prison planet. The watchers in the dark may have contrived a method by which to imprison the entity on this planet. If that is the case, then it is likely that the Dark Angels would bear responsibility for the security of that jail.
The Dread Wing. We know that only 2 of the original 6 wings remain. Being that guillamin noted the unique nature of the dark angels weaponry, and that the dread wing possessed a large amount of said specialized weaponry, is it possible that this chapters mission is to maintain a vigil on their illicit armory? Is it possible that certain brothers of that wing could be in stasis there as well?
The Emperor's Angel. There was a proto-primarch created by the Emperor. It was hidden somewhere. It is sleeping. It is possible that the 1st primarch has some link to that proto-primarch. Maybe their vigil is over something they do not understand. Maybe the other aspect of the Lion is that splits piece of his essence, the remainder which would be joined to the Lion to make him the Emperor's Angel.
Great video.
"Assisting" other "Loyalist" chapters. X)
By the emperor I hate it when someone is at home when you try to.....gifted them gifts when Christmas come it would ruin the surprise
Intresting Chapter.
The Angel Vigilant are just being...vigilant.
Most likely has to do with the fallen. Just average Dark Angles near heresy. The DA never really followed the codex, operating as a disjointed legion. I doubt Ultra Smurfs have that much regular contact with their descendant chapters.
They are successors to the Dark Angels and with it comes all manners of secrets and mysteries. Perhaps it the reasons that were stated in this video or perhaps there are reasons unknown to us. Perhaps their homeworld is prison for the Fallen Angels or maybe there have been multiple sightings of them near this world because of its location near the Eye of Terror. It wouldn’t be the First time the Dark Angels focus on capturing their Fallen Brothers.
Why the hell are the high lords having a hissy fit when their fortress
*IS CLOSE TO THE EYE OF FUCKING TERROR*
Maybe they are protecting the cyberdongs?
So, a second-founding Dark Angels successor chapter, not on record, and ignoring orders so that they can do their own thing? Just like the Dark Angels themselves did? And on the doorstep of the Eye of Terror? Exactly how much shady stuff to the Dark Angels and their successors need to do before SOMEONE says, "y'know, there might be something up with that..."?
But why don't the Angels of Vigilance just create another scout company, and another battle company, and leave one scout company and one other on their fortress monastery at all times? They can just rotate companies with every deployment...
That way, they can fulfill their blood oath, still send full chapter strength wherever the High Lords want.
Additionally, since those extra companies don't do anything except guard the fortress monastery, and its just two companies, and not ten, they'd still be "more or less" codex compliant. They'd hardly be the first chapter to tuck a few extra Astartes away for a rainy day 😉
Cool.
Pervigilium? Is that where Fresh resides?
I guess I have reason for guarding the Fallen probably it's the reason
