Just traded my SCX10 Jeep Rubicon Hard body build With the SCX10.3 portals from KYX for a Baja Rey! Super excited! Always wanted one! Can't wait to upgrade! 🥳
I bought this truck I’m new I fly Rc planes man this thing is really fast compared to Traxxas slash I race agains it’s very well balanced over all very happy I made a great choice buying this truck
I recently upgraded my Baja Rey using your video as help with installation. I did have a different choice in parts, namely a SSD aluminum front bulkhead; Exotek aluminum steering set; and a Spektrum S6240 servo. My choice of trailing arms is different too: I found a set of Crazy Racer one piece aluminum trailing arms that are an exact copy of the stock trailing arms except for the color. I kept the stock front suspension arms for now, but I will consider the RPM arms if I ever break the stock arms. The Baja Rey V2 already has a Spektrum Firma 130A ESC and 3800kv motor installed from the factory, so no upgrade was required.
Thank you! I’ve flown Spektrum for fixed wing/ multi rotors for years, but have switched to radiolink for surface. Hard to beat a complete 6 ch radio system with battery and signal telemetry.....for less than the cost of that Spektrum servo😱
Finally A channel doing short course content. Love it! I have the Tekno SCT 410.3. Just love the short course platform. Really want the super baja rey. :)
You're going to need exotek diff cups, front center and rear. The stock plastic cups and screws are pretty weak. Also, the stock 3800kv motor runs hot and hits thermal shutoff very easily. I tried fans, etc. Finally just upgraded it to Castle. You've got all the other weak spots covered!
Hey Greg! My Baja Rey is my favorite truck! I love your channel, unfortunately this truck isn’t supported by the aftermarket as much as it really should be. This truck on a 3S in stock configuration is more than enough! We need aftermarket body support etc... I’ve had to shorten the rear links to fall in line with standard short-course bodies for sale... I would love to see a build series! No more Yeti Trophy = no more trophy support!
Nice setup aluminum definitely looks amazing and looks premium compared to plastic. I think you may need a cooling fan for the motor if you are gonna use high pinion gear.
You've god a pretty decent selection of parts there...but, as some have pointed out, you could do 'better'. The aluminum steering turnbuckles aren't good...too thing, and easily bendable...SS or Ti would be a much better choice. While I'm sure thee Spektrum Firma SMART ESC is "good", I opted for the Castle Mamba X. One thing I really liked with my option was that I got the RPM Mamba X ESC cage for the Slash (RPM73762/RPM73765)...as chance has it, the screw mounting positions for both vehicles is identical. While the RPM upper & lower A-arms might be better than the stock (especially for running 3S), most have found the Vitavon Racing, Vanquish, & Metal Concepts choices to be better & stronger. As for the front bulkhead, if you check the forums, you'll find the great majority of people will easily recommend the Exotek version far, far more than the HR version. If you only plan to run 2S, then the HR third-member is an excellent choice...however, if you plan on running 3Ss, a machined rear axle would be a smarter choice (again, Vitavon Racing & Vanquish have excellent options. With either of these options, you also don't need the Losi machined rear upper link mount, as that's part of the machined rear axles. For the front bumper, I've read many good things about the RPM offering...but, you might consider checking out the XV4 from T-Bone Racing. It's made from Delrin, and extremely durable. I smashed by BR through a very solid dirt clod, and not even the most minute scratch was left - it's 'solid'. For the rear lower trailing arms...yup, you guess3ed it...I, once again, recommend checking the Vitavon Racing, Vanquish, and Metal Concepts offerings...especially the trailing arms from Vitavon, as they are, essentially, "bulletproof". As for the rest of your parts, you're defiantly on the right track. For shocks, I'm, in full agreement with the Pro-Line Power Strokes - get the 'Long' (ie. the Slash rear shocks) for the front, and the 'XL' for the rear. While the stock motor is "good", a Puller Pro XL, or (better yet) ROC412 HD (I went with the 3100kV, and, on stock gearing, she's hit in excess of 42mph) would be better...ESPECIALLY if paired with the Mamba X ESC. For wheels & tires, the stock are known to not be all that good. Personally, I decided to 'upgrade' to the Pro-Line BFGoodrich Baja T/A KR2 tires, and Axial Yeti SCORE Method 105 wheels. For additional "smoothness", I also replaced all bearings with Avid (literally, a combination of Revolution, Revolution Aura, Ceramic Revolution, Metal, & Ceramic Metal). Mine is ready for some serious off-road 3S running, true Baja racing-style. I haven't installed them...yet...but, I also picked up some larger-diameter (0.5mm larger than stock) front driveshafts, as well as a Futaba Gyro (since I "lost" the Losi AVC Traction Control in installing the Mamba X ESC & Futaba Rx. I have done, and will be doing, some other upgrades (new front & rear lightbars, Exotek steel disc brake set, window nets, etc)...plus, like yours, I have a body being custom-painted (primarily as I don't want to ruin the Mint 400 Limited Edition body my Baja Rey came with). Whatever you decide to go with, looking forward to your build updates. Let's rock & roll, Baja style.
This video couldn't arrive at a better time, I just got my Baja Rey 2 days ago and I'm starting to do some research about upgrades. So far I changed the pinion for the 10t included because I will run on 3s and changes the EC3 connector for an xt60. I have the 3rd member from SSD and aluminum bellcrank from Losi in the mail already, I'm also definitely changing the diff oils and shock oils, but I was thinking to go 500k read and center and 300k front.
Im building/personalizing a Rock Rey bnd that I purchased on black Friday for $249. It has a few well known week points ( mainly the stock servo arm, servo and rack ) that are easily fixed. I've driven it on 2s and 3s with multiple kv motors and I really have fun tinkering on the bench and driving it. There's helpful info in online forums to help you troubleshoot if needed. Good luck with your next build.
I cant wait to get my Ford body back from SOR Graphics! As far as shocks, Id keep the stock ones. Only thing Id do is change the rear oil to about 45. Ive noticed it really helps the launch squat and keeps the rear much smoother, and less rear body roll into the corners. The aluminum 3rd member I just did also, noticed i was on the verge of losing a bearing when i changed it, so the bigger bearings will be nice(i did the SSD one). Also noticed my rear diff was getting warm, so i think the aluminum 3rd member will help dissipate the heat.
Somebody (company) needs to make metal replacement links for the anti-roll bar on the rear. Making themm out of plastic that bends kind of fefeats the purpose of the part... Or a completely new design that mounts to the actual rear axle or at least farther down the reaar trailing arms.
Why not use silicone ear plugs in the diffs to tighten them up? I know a guy in the UK does that to still allow them to move at different speeds but act more like a posi traction. BTW those front fenders, have your's broken yet? 4 batteries in and mine are shot at the bottom rear.
I always follow your channel. Great advice! Please help me. I always have trouble with the front drive shafts on my Losi Rock rey. Can I replace them with others? Have a great day!
I just bought a Losi Baja Rey 1/10 scale. I’m thinking of using a 3s instead of recommended 2s. Do you have link that you can post on how to replace the pinion. Thanks in advance.
Did you have any video in the process of how you did the rear diff ? I'm almost done covering my first generation baja rey to two I just need to change the gears since its lock.
I'm having a hard time taking the pinion gear out of the rear diff cover idk weather to just pry it out or what I removed the set screw but it's like stuck in there
i dont know about the uppers links but the lowere aluminum links from losi are worse than the stock ones. i broke both of them in less than one battery pack just from rollovers in a flat gravel parking lot. the plastic ends are just to weak
Can someone please tell me how to remove the axles. Everyone says they should just fall out once you remove the end caps. I can pull them out about 2mm and thats it. Help😳
Not being a smart a**, but shouldn't you be using locktite? I only ask because i have only built crawlers and that is always a big thing you hear about but Im curious if its not needed for something different like this?
Hey Greg I have been commenting for the last few days that can you please review the traxxas erevo 2.0 because it is my favourite please plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz
Cool truck, but Losi needs to adjust their parts prices. For example I'd love someone to tell me why many of their clear body retail prices are double or more than other brands. It's not like they use special materials. It's baffling.
The vanquish axle is nice! I bought one for rock Rey in black before they stopped making it. Maybe with demand they will make it again. Did you try eBay ?
How did you remove the outer part that attaches to the input shaft of the differential? I removed the Allen set screw but it doesn’t budge. Feels like it’s gone break if I pull any harder. Really want to get my upgraded cover on with the larger bearings. Thanks!
The universal yoke on the bevel pinion shaft? Sometimes the threadlock that they use on the set-screw pin gets in between the metal shaft and yoke base. Some heat should help free it up.
You should get the Hotracing rear links. The losi links tend to break where the plastic end meats the metal link.

I also use radiolink for surface now. Spektrum isn't justifiable anymore for what you get for the price
Afrolucha makes some amazing rear trailing arms for this!
great video cant wait to see the finished product and ya upgrade the shocks
I’m thinking upgrade the shocks too.🤔
Proline needs to step up there game with the spring rates available because they simply don't work with the weight of these trucks.

doug148877 will this cause the truck to stop like in failsafe mode? What batt are you using something like this happens to mine.
I got mine almost sealed off from air intake and this never happens on my two baja reys. Never broke any diffs just shimmed.
The paint job is amazing 👌
This is great!! I've been looking at beefin up my Baja Rey so this will come in handy!! Thanks!!

Def put the proline shocks on the losi
Are you going to do a summery video after the build including the build cost?
Tell us what you think of the original shocks before upgrading. But YES, upgrade shocks haha
Just got mine- love it soo much! Haven’t driven on the off-road yet but campaigning to
Thanks for this build, can you include closed cell foam on whatever tires you decide to use. Don’t forget to swap shocks.
People do seem to love those powerstoke shocks for the baja
Awesome video... I’m really enjoy all your content. I’m looking forward to this build!!!
Awesome! Glad you like it!!
I love this truck!

Your videos are really cool and entertaining. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for watching!!😎
Mannnn, I just bought a Slash 4x4 VXL a week ago. I’m really kicking myself, I should’ve gotten a Baja Rey. Lmao.
blue loctite a good idea for aluminum parts
Hey do you like your baja Rey? I looking for a short course truck I really like the baja Rey

aluminum diff cups!
I always follow your channel. Great advice! Please help me. I always have trouble with the front drive shafts on my Losi Rock rey. Can I replace them with others?
Have a great day!
Need an updated video please!
Have you looked into dual shocks for the rear?
Nicely done! When you'll be able to add next part of upgrade?
Needs harder shocks so you can jump it better without damage.
I've been waiting for Samwise Gamgi to upgrade his Baja Rey for some time now
I thought they came stock with the spektrum 130a esc?
I just bought a Losi Baja Rey 1/10 scale. I’m thinking of using a 3s instead of recommended 2s. Do you have link that you can post on how to replace the pinion. Thanks in advance.
Did you have any video in the process of how you did the rear diff ? I'm almost done covering my first generation baja rey to two I just need to change the gears since its lock.
Is there other brands that carry the 300000 silicone differential? Kyosho is out I need it for my Ford raptor as well
I'm having a hard time taking the pinion gear out of the rear diff cover idk weather to just pry it out or what I removed the set screw but it's like stuck in there

You definitely want the exotec diff cups on trans and front. The plastic ones are horrible
Driveline and shock recommendations please
What tool do you use to take the body off?
I have one and I’m trying to take it off
Maybe a mip rear driveshaft?
You need the rear axle of the axial capra🤣
More clearance is always better
😁
What electric drill and bits are you using?
Sometimes upgrade parts are not actually an upgrade.
Can someone please tell me how to remove the axles. Everyone says they should just fall out once you remove the end caps. I can pull them out about 2mm and thats it.
Help😳
Yesssssssss
Dear RC driver
Is there a RC truggy you could recommend that is reasonable on price and a great off roader.
When is the part 4 dropping
Not being a smart a**, but shouldn't you be using locktite? I only ask because i have only built crawlers and that is always a big thing you hear about but Im curious if its not needed for something different like this?
Get new shocks the way to go.....
It there a motor options?
What tools are you using? I want a electric screwdriver, but don't know what to get.
I would do shocks
Hi hello which one is good basic nitro buggy Hsp backwash or Vrx rh802
Awesome build!! have a question for you what kind of screw gun are you using?
It’s a Makita DF010D
Greg, do you have a link to Custom RC Graphics?
Why no exotek , or vitavon parts ?!
Hey Greg I have been commenting for the last few days that can you please review the traxxas erevo 2.0 because it is my favourite please plz plz plz plz plz plz plz plz

Similar to Traxxas
@@coryperemsky Not quite. Traxxas bodies are $25 to $30. Losi's can cost $60 or more. They seriously need to fix their prices.
@@coryperemsky And why the heck is just the cab section of an SBR body $80? Makes no sense.
Aluminuim axle and shocks
Tried to get the Vanquish axle but they don’t make it anymore. Will most likely replace the shocks. 😎
The vanquish axle is nice! I bought one for rock Rey in black before they stopped making it. Maybe with demand they will make it again. Did you try eBay ?
those losi aluminum lower links are terrible. they plastic lowere links break really easy. the stock plastic ones are way stronger
I have a question to you, would you part with the original shell? Would love to put that on my own Baja rey. Name your price
La
Another 1200 dollar rig awesome lol
Oh Boy I’m early!
get a new motor!
First
