Paulo Lameiras Too bad it was a huge letdown. I think when I bought it I was expecting awesome multiplayer, which it didn't really deliver (x360 didn't really have any worthwhile multiplayer games in the first year). If I played this game today I'd probably appreciate it moreso.
+KoolDawg99 agreed but we can understand the reaction of the fans though.I mean, when I first played It, I was loathing the dumbass father of joanna and found the story so underwhelming compare to the n64 counterpart. It almost feels like they're not set In the same universe. But in terms of game;yeah It's fun and got its moment.
The "hate" this game get is well-deserved. Wonky aiming, stiff movement, and horrendous gunplay aren't what I'd consider in the makings of a "good" game.
This game is Simply beautiful, colorful and ALOT of FUN , especially when compared to the bland crap that passes for AAA today and through out the 7th gen. PD zero didnt deserve the hate , it was doing its own thing , It was different.
Quit gaming 4 years ago but been feeling like replaying my huge xbox library for stuff like alan wake(I'm a sucker for horror movies and games) Is this game worth for offline only?
John I think it is , it feels fresh in comparison to modern titles. I still play it online and offline with bots, the singleplayer component is alot of fun. PD zero is bashed because it isn't the first one and it isn't COD/halo.
I really don't blame Rare for how this game turned out, anyone who loves Rare like I do knows it was their corporate chain-tuggers that kept busting their balls during the development with these unreal deadlines. In spite of the dark history behind this game, I still like it, and play it from time to time. Though, in terms of sequels, this game is a HELL of a lot more satisfying sequel than another Rare game Microsoft had a huge influence on... Now, if you want a game that is a worthy successor to Perfect Dark, try and get a copy of Timesplitters 2 and Timesplitters: Future Perfect for either the Xbox or PS2 or Gamecube. Some of the developers for both games brought us Goldeneye and Perfect Dark too!
No mention of multiplayer? Jetpacks? Hovercrafts? Glitchers? Friendly infiltrators? I'm afraid you left out the best parts. Some of those jetpack wars with 32 players having it out in the Desert map, were the most epic thing I've ever seen. I miss the jetpacks. So powerful... yet so vulnerable at close quarters.
I remember when video games were just about having a good time and having fun blasting your friends heads off, not about graphics or any of that crap such as GoldenEye 64 and the original Perfect Dark. This reminds me of those games.
I just got this game and am loving it. I feel of this came out today then people would love it allot more then they did then. This and cod4 are among the best shooters I've played. And he's right. We don't play tOys for the story but because the game is fun. Thanks to rare replay, this game might get a resurgence.
I actually really enjoyed that control setup. reminds me of Red Orchestra, or even Infiltration (a realism mod for the original Unreal Tournament - Maybe its nostalgia but that was the best "ultra realism" FPS at least so far as feel and controls were concerned.
LOL so Golden Eye 007 is "legendary" & the original Perfect Dark is just "Very popular"? They are both legendary if you ask if. Can't say the same about Perfect Dark Zero though.
Hat Dag Cat All console shooters have auto aim, otherwise they would be too hard. Just not as intense as n64 auto aim, it was moreso the general direction.
My best guess is they don't want to play as a woman because they're all SEXISTS!!! lol Seriously, they probably loved the first Perfect Dark and had high expectations for this one and it didn't quite live up to them. Think about it, if you have a conversation with someone who doesn't like Perfect Dark Zero they will almost always bring up the one for N64 and how much they liked that one.
I was clearly joking about the whole sexist thing. That aside, it very well could have something to do with Microsoft. It's said that in order to make their game's deadline for completion, a couple features had to be stripped.
This game is fuckin' awesome! The first Perfect Dark will soon be available on Xbox Live Market Place. To those who have never played the first one here's my advice: BUY IT!
I remember that I actually found some people still playing this late last year or so, and we actually played the game for about 5 hours straight together. Then we kept playing every day for the rest of the week. It's really fun online actually! I wish people still played it...
Perfect Dark is completely Rare, GoldenEye was part Rare but it was Nintendo who held the Bond license. So it was in development for a remake but Microsoft and Nintendo could not reach an agreement on how it should be released, M$ was going to allow it PLUS Rare's entire classic lineup on the Virtual Console of the Wii, but Nintendo said no. The retelling of the story in GoldenEye Wii and Reloaded, for now is as close as we will ever get.
Plus this is a perfect example of what happens to Rare after some of the best designers left to form their own company, Free Radicals. Those guys made GoldenEye and the N64 Perfect Dark what it was and without them Rare was never the same again. Free Radicals are amazing!! Timesplitters: Future Perfect proves that which is one of the best games on PS2/XBOX!!
Hey dude, I saw your perfect dark review since I got perfect dark on the xbox live arcade mode. I....wasn't impressed. You didn't give so much good comments about the game, you just said that it was a shame that the game came on the N64....you got to understand that the game was made in 2000, a year where the mechanics of call of duty advanced warfare and timesplitters weren't come up with. Plus I love perfect dark, It's the best first person shooter ever made and it beats shooters like Destiny and such. Plus you should had said more about its guns, characters, modes, etc....because you haven't even tried the multiplayer in the game.
Edit: I played old school and moderns shooters. They're both awesome and fun. Perfect dark is a great old school shooter, call of duty is a wonderful modern shooter. Anyone has their tastes.
Perfect dark for the N64 was at the time awesome, a Goldeneye sequel... Most Rare games are some of the best.. I have this game, but haven't finished it.. I'm a slacker.. I think I was sidetracked by Bioshock. Great review Mark!
finally, someone else who sees it's flaws but doesn't class it as a bad game. i found it a letdown as a PD sequel but disregard the "Perfect Dark" element and it's not half bad.
the main thing I seem to read all over the internet : Perfect Dark >>>>>>>>>> Perfect Dark Zero Never played this one, but boy do I still love the original (and Goldeneye for that matter) !!!
I bought and played this game back in the day and i just could not get into it ...but after watching this review and seeing the awesome gameplay footage it has inspired me to buy the game again and give it another go ,cheers Mark
Perfect Dark Zero didn't look as bad as I remember it being in 2005. However, it is nice that a certain few Wii games look about as good as the 360's launch titles, these games being Super Mario Galaxy and the new Metroid game from what I have seen.
Man. This game came out six years before it, yet it still looks better than Modern Warfare 3 graphically, in my opinion. I'm not a CoD hater, in fact, I like the series. I'm just saying, they really need to step it up.
This game was the shit at launch. Largely because it had the most solid online gameplay back then. It may not be the best game ever, but it was fun. I remember playing games on the largest maps with full games. Onslaught kicked ass too.
I prefer the multiplayer in Perfect Dark and the single player in Goldeneye, mainly because of the low frame rate on Perfect Dark which is strangely less noticeable in multiplayer.
Don't worry, you're not the only one. (ok, I'm not saying the story is great, but it's not as bad as everyone keeps saying it is. It's still enjoyable, as well as the books. Hell, the books are great, go find them and read them now!)
@davefollow: Screw you: The game is actually great once you get used to the play mechanics (you can only sprint unarmed) and the tactical-like style of play. Even though this the first Xbox 360 gme, it graphics are some of the best, if not the best, to ever grace this console, even now 6 years later!
I just got this game for $2.50 at game stop thanks to power saver. It is awesome especially for the price. The online multiplayer is fun and it isn't hard to find people to play with and the game is challenging especially on dark agent.
@tulud yeah, that's very awkward, but that doesn't change that this game is very, very awesome; just don't play in front of your family and you're set.
@AchivableRogue I found the aiming very sluggish / slow / insensitive. Definitely something you need to adapt to :) . Looks like a great game if you can get used to the "wading in jello" feel to the controls, but I couldn't. Might give it another shot though, the later levels look pretty cool.
I was just at our local mom and pop used video game store. I saw all three of those Burger King Xbox 360 games for $2.00 each. Perfect Dark Zero (CIB) was 95¢. lol
This game would have been amazing if Rare didn't rush it out so it could be a launch title, & spent more time polishing the game. PDZ feel like it's 50% complete.
I like how this game still looks way better than most 360 games. Rare nailed the graphics right out of the gate.
Impressive how 10 years later, this game still look good!
Paulo Lameiras Too bad it was a huge letdown. I think when I bought it I was expecting awesome multiplayer, which it didn't really deliver (x360 didn't really have any worthwhile multiplayer games in the first year). If I played this game today I'd probably appreciate it moreso.
No it isn't.
This game gets too much hate. Yeah, it's not as good as the original, but hell, it's good.
+KoolDawg99 agreed but we can understand the reaction of the fans though.I mean, when I first played It, I was loathing the dumbass father of joanna and found the story so underwhelming compare to the n64 counterpart. It almost feels like they're not set In the same universe. But in terms of game;yeah It's fun and got its moment.
nobodyinterestingyou yeah not to mention the PvP was really fun.
KoolDawg99 why is it hated so much? BTW I never had a N64.
No.

DirtySpaceRat. Why do you think the game sucks?
The second level where your outside of a niteclub is one of the best level designs in gaming history.
they should make a new one
Wish granted.
@@jasonmyers8278👏👏👏
Why does your review for Perfect Dark N64 have comments turned off?
Extreme sexism and misogyny?
The silencer sound in this game and Goldeneye is absolutely my greatest auditory pleasure
I really don't blame Rare for how this game turned out, anyone who loves Rare like I do knows it was their corporate chain-tuggers that kept busting their balls during the development with these unreal deadlines. I spent countless hours on this when i first got my 360, loved it!
Ah back before they figured out how to make the materials look like anything other than plastic.
I remember when video games were just about having a good time and having fun blasting your friends heads off, not about graphics or any of that crap such as GoldenEye 64 and the original Perfect Dark. This reminds me of those games.
I love the original perfect dark on n64 and the multiplayer was addicitive.
I haven't played it, but the review of this game makes it feel like the good old N64 game.
@victorhng I don't understand. That game isn't even out yet. Which game mechanics?
Does this game output in 1080p? Because I remember reading an article that the first model 360s, when played on an HD tv, outputted in 480p.
I just got this game and am loving it. I feel of this came out today then people would love it allot more then they did then. This and cod4 are among the best shooters I've played. And he's right. We don't play tOys for the story but because the game is fun. Thanks to rare replay, this game might get a resurgence.
even now this game still looks gorgeous!
I never played the original, so I love this game!
The graphics in this game are amazing.
Half-Life 2 back in 2004 looked much better. Didn't you played Far Cry?
Slender Man No it didn't.
zack19192 yep it did, and it will always.
***** yep, deal with it. This game looks outdated. Riddick that came out back in 2004 on first Xbox looks better..
Slender Man Lol no.
I found it for 12 dollars at a local game store. It also came with every other rare game ever made. What a deal!!
Man do I remember playing this a long time ago. It looks a lot more... cartoonish than I last remembered though :o
I actually really enjoyed that control setup. reminds me of Red Orchestra, or even Infiltration (a realism mod for the original Unreal Tournament - Maybe its nostalgia but that was the best "ultra realism" FPS at least so far as feel and controls were concerned.
It looked like he was having trouble aiming. Is the aiming in this game something that you have to adapt to?
Damn this game still looks better than some ps4 and x1 games out there lol.
zack19192 I thought the same thing lol
+SilverWolfX7 Well, both Perfect Dark games are included in Rare Replay for XBO.
+SilverWolfX7 I would love to have PS3 or PS4... there are so many great games on those.
I know they are, I just don't feel like getting them now.
zack19192 I want to get an Xbox One just for this.
I freaking LOVE this game
was that the black guy from matrix? at 3:19?
Some people are still playing the multilayer after 10 years! Now that's a testimony to how good the game is.
LOL so Golden Eye 007 is "legendary" & the original Perfect Dark is just "Very popular"? They are both legendary if you ask if. Can't say the same about Perfect Dark Zero though.
your videos have a good quality and are also very informative, how do u do the HD recording on your xbox 360.
does this review channel, inecom company have a website with their old reviews and their current reviews?
Does the controls feel like Black for the ps2/xbox?
when she is getting hit it sounds like she is coming... i LOVE IT
Even now, this game still looks gorgeous...even if it wasnt one of the 360's best initial line-up games. I'm gonna go buy it for a fiver!
i dont know if 'shatner-esce' is good or bad..
can you clarify please?
@colombiatm: D pad or analog stick?
is the xray rifle on this ?
I love this game. i'm still playing it online.
They shoulda kept the auto aim and the gritty atmosphere from the original and this woulda been a big shooter hit.
Agreed
Hat Dag Cat It does have auto aim IIRC. It's just less effective.
mknomad5
I don't recall that, and I don't see that in this video.
Hat Dag Cat
It took 10 seconds of searching for me to confirm it does have auto aim. Google. Try it.
Hat Dag Cat All console shooters have auto aim, otherwise they would be too hard. Just not as intense as n64 auto aim, it was moreso the general direction.
fthis was the first, fps i ever played. i used to like to play this on two player and will definately be remembered
thats great ai and hey did u kickstart the motor
Does this game have multiplayer? If so, does it have local multiplayer?
Why did people say this game sucked?
My best guess is they don't want to play as a woman because they're all SEXISTS!!! lol
Seriously, they probably loved the first Perfect Dark and had high expectations for this one and it didn't quite live up to them. Think about it, if you have a conversation with someone who doesn't like Perfect Dark Zero they will almost always bring up the one for N64 and how much they liked that one.
It didn't feel like Perfect Dark on the 64.
Because we got No One Lives Forever 2 in 2002.
BleuSkiddew It's nothing to do with hating women. People didn't like how Microsoft handled Rareware.
I was clearly joking about the whole sexist thing.
That aside, it very well could have something to do with Microsoft. It's said that in order to make their game's deadline for completion, a couple features had to be stripped.
i herd saber wulf from killer instinc is on here is tht true?
Perfect Dark for n64 is a legend
I'm playing PDZ right now for the day, come and play...
This game is fuckin' awesome! The first Perfect Dark will soon be available on Xbox Live Market Place. To those who have never played the first one here's my advice: BUY IT!
And you derive at this exactly how?
"you killed 'Stud Oreo'" @ 7:44 ... LMAO
I also want a Dreamcast 2.
Its my favorite console ever.
did you notice that alarm sounded just like an armed M-Com in Bad Company 2?....also...I have the sexy steal case with jo on it
4:00 Well that's where Call of Duty sucks. I seriously doubt in real life you'll move like a ninja just to put a few bullets in someone's back.
Most of the games graphics could be on the wii, it's an early game.
nowadays you can get it with a 30 pack of games in the rare replay
was this the first game on the 360?
please please PLEASSEEE tell me that there are skedar and maians in this game too.......
That actually crossed my mind, with all of these shooters around nowadays you would think Microsoft would tell Rare to make one of their own.
I remember that I actually found some people still playing this late last year or so, and we actually played the game for about 5 hours straight together. Then we kept playing every day for the rest of the week. It's really fun online actually! I wish people still played it...
Thanks. After I posted that I looked it up and early xbox models went up to 1080i until a system update.
@actionist2009 you know what sucks about nightfire i can't find it
which wall glitch?
It's called an Expansion Pak. It enhances the game's features the N-64 can't use without it, and it allows it to have better graphics. :)
Perfect Dark is completely Rare, GoldenEye was part Rare but it was Nintendo who held the Bond license. The retelling of the story in GoldenEye Wii and Reloaded, for now is as close as we will ever get.
I've gotta agree the level designs
are pretty good for the FPS genre.
Its above average and cheap as
chips on ebay.
awesome, when is it coming out? :-)
I have Perfect Dark for my N64 :)
Let me ask this. If they can put Perfect Dark to the XBL, why cant they put goldeneye?
Hey dude, I saw your perfect dark review since I got perfect dark on the xbox live arcade mode. I....wasn't impressed. You didn't give so much good comments about the game, you just said that it was a shame that the game came on the N64....you got to understand that the game was made in 2000, a year where the mechanics of call of duty advanced warfare and timesplitters weren't come up with. ***** "and it beats all other shooters" ummmmmmm , no? XD you're such a blind fanboy lmao
br426 Dude, the comment was a mistake. I'll change it since modern shooters are great.
br426 Also, change your reply. I edited my comment.
This is a shooter made at just the right time when shooters were at their best. After 07, they turned into what they are now.
Perfect dark for the N64 was at the time awesome, a Goldeneye sequel... Most Rare games are some of the best..
I have this game, but haven't finished it.. I'm a slacker.. I think I was sidetracked by Bioshock.
Great review Mark!
love your reviews. you should do more metroid reviews.
finally, someone else who sees it's flaws but doesn't class it as a bad game. i found it a letdown as a PD sequel but disregard the "Perfect Dark" element and it's not half bad.

HorroRviXenKate Get Rare Replay, it also has BattleToads
real morphious are you saying that you had to pay extra or was this a different platform?
I used to play the "combat simulator" mode of this game on the Nintendo 64 for HOURS! Perfect Dark ROCKS!!!
Perfect Dark Zero didn't look as bad as I remember it being in 2005. However, it is nice that a certain few Wii games look about as good as the 360's launch titles, these games being Super Mario Galaxy and the new Metroid game from what I have seen.
The release date is to be announced. I did read that it is coming out this year.
Man. This game came out six years before it, yet it still looks better than Modern Warfare 3 graphically, in my opinion. I'm not a CoD hater, in fact, I like the series. I'm just saying, they really need to step it up.
This game would be loads better if she didn't move like an old sumo. If they kept the speed of the original, it would have been much better.
@victorhng You only go into the third person perspective when you take cover.
I agree completely. In fact this is one of the original games I received for 360 and its the only one I still have. Still love the multiplayer
This game was the shit at launch. Largely because it had the most solid online gameplay back then.
It may not be the best game ever, but it was fun. I remember playing games on the largest maps with full games. Onslaught kicked ass too.
saw this for $4. should i pick it up?...
The look and reload animations of the weapons still hold up.
I prefer the multiplayer in Perfect Dark and the single player in Goldeneye, mainly because of the low frame rate on Perfect Dark which is strangely less noticeable in multiplayer.
I remember waiting forever for this game to be released!
So many people hate this game because its not like the original, but shit changes, and this game should get a lot more respect.
@Zaquroe - I prefer Goldeneye as the best FPS for the N64.
I just got this game for $2.50 at game stop thanks to power saver. It is awesome especially for the price. The online multiplayer is fun and it isn't hard to find people to play with and the game is challenging especially on dark agent.
This game was originally going to be on the Gamecube
@tulud yeah, that's very awkward, but that doesn't change that this game is very, very awesome; just don't play in front of your family and you're set.
@AchivableRogue I found the aiming very sluggish / slow / insensitive. Definitely something you need to adapt to :)
.
3:21 is that Liquid Ocelot?
