He has to be one of the most consistant swimmer I have ever seen swim. It was an honor to see Aaron Peirsol set a World Record at IUPUI back in 2005. He had everyone on their feet in Indy. WOW is all I can say.
I'm not sure he's the best of all time, but certainly the best in the last 30 years, which his a fantastic achievement. In Rome, apart from the silly mistake in the 100m semifinal, he was really impressive.
Phelps is a fighter, he doesn't like to lose or his superiority to be questioned. That's why the shocking defeat in the 200m freestyle in Rome was in my opinion the best thing he could have possibly happened after Beijing. He's hungry again and he has new goals, like being the best in the 100m freestyle, which is not easy task, especially now that Cielo has shown his real, fantastic potential.
who would you say has the record to be compared to Peirsol as the best backstroker ever? i heard there is a polish guy who was damn good but i forgot his name.
+kom452 yes I agree with that, peirsol was the best backstroker of all time, being great when he was young, and would of still been to this day if he didn't lose his motovation. I was referring to this event.
Roland Matthes and I'd add John Naber, although he quit swimming very young and as a result won less. They were legendary talents, more gifted than Peirsol, IMHO.
I think that Phelps isnt much of a thinker. Results aren't big for him, the only thing that matters is winning the race regardless of what race it is. Why he's still going? He still likes the sport I guess. He just wants to swim fast and beat people, where he stops is irrelevent to his acheivements but more dependant on his enjoyment.
Great swimmer Peirsol, but in the next 5 or 6 years at least Ryosuke Irie will dominate. He's too much more talented that anybody else. I'm an ex-swimmer and followed all competitions of the last 25yrs, and I've never seen anybody swimming backstroke like Ryosuke. Maybe only Kristina Egerszegi.
let me ask ya about Phelps. What do you think keep Phelps going? His accomplishments are unbelievable(16 medals in Olympic History, 22 world golds, 37 records broken). What driving force is pushing him to compete in London 2012?. He has nothing else to prove. He's the best swimmer who's ever lived like Popov said. If i were michael, i'd retire after kicking Cavic's ass.
I know one thing he was never going to allow Le Clos to beat him at the next Olympics, that year Micheal never swam outside the U.S . The rest is history 😂😂
keep hatin what ? 100% you are non swimmer . because no person in the world dont know that the world record that irie Resouke from japan did in the 200 back , and the world record of 100 free of bernard had been canceled because they were wearing the xglide . and am not hating any body its just you know nothing about swimming .
I will miss this man! He is the best backstroker ever!

agreed. Aaron has acknowledged Ryosuke's potential but as today, Aaron is the undisputed "best backstroker" of all time.
25 actually. 26 in 5 days.
LEGEND. Completely under appreciated. 5 time Olympic ch
my favorite swimmer of all time.
ABSOLUTELY BLOODY BRILLIANT

You know someone's fast when you break their own world record
I wish he didnt retire

No one finishes like Peirsol
indeed he is, but to this day nobody can beat peirsol's times
The oldest swimmer in the field came out winning and setting a world record all in one that is one hard working athlete.
Only 26 years of age...
that is what dreams are made of
Wow, I have Grever's autograph. Sweet.
who would you say has the record to be compared to Peirsol as the best backstroker ever? i heard there is a polish guy who was damn good but i forgot his name.
LIONS ROAR in STADIUM @ 1:07 goosebumps
There's a difference between lack of self eteem and a desire to win.
is he wearing the arena ??
I think that was just Aaron. I think Grevers might have worn the Tracer Rize, but the back looks like an arena.
Aaron is sponsored by Arena now.
not quite without a suit. pretty sure he was still wearing arena legs
haha same place my state championship is at. I won backstroke last year..
yep. he's wearing the x-glide.
look at that strokerate after 50m turn. shame grevers is technically faster now (he goes just a bit slower than this w/ textile suit)
Grevers is still the best of all time, his 52.08 in textile is at least a 51.80 in an x glide
random channel 101
in the 100, perhaps. overall is still peirsol. if he trained specifically sprints, he might have gone faster.

not anymore. ryan murphy went under aaron peirstol's time in the relay
Ryan Murphy not Grevers
so much better than michael phelps.
EMKAYSEE33 this is just backstroke dumbass
best 1 for a long time, its not easy to beat this record. it someone does it. this will last a log period of time.
Manuel Ferreira Ryan Murphy in textile
26 or 27
thats why he got under 52 , because he is wearing a suit that is not approved by fina , but approved in usa .
i have his US cap! :D

Maybe its better than working normally?xD
how lol
agreed with ya Fu0CO.
:D Just my opinion, i could be wrong..maybe swimming fulfils the void in his heart that represents his lack of self-esteem
