Yup, I grew up in Illinois, not far from where our host lives, and remember running through the heaps of leaves on the ground in a local park as a kid. One of the amazing memories was walking through that same park at night with the sound of the leaves rustling beneath my feet and smelling them, then hearing a flock of Canadian Geese flying in formation overhead, going south. With the low cloud layer overhead somehow making everything quieter sound wise, more muted, similar to snowfall deadens sounds. I live out west now, everything holds onto their leaves and stays green way further into fall and then when the first freeze happens, everything turns brown at once, and we never get the gradual fall colors that the Midwest get's.. I do miss that. But I don't miss the high humidity summers.. Uhg..

You really captured the fleeting spirit of this season in the US.... the fact that its the momentary mild reprieve from summer before the brutal onslaught of winter... thats why we love it so... Screw the Spring, "its getting hotter, you wanna sneeze for 3 months?" yeah nothx
Having grown up in Northern Minnesota, I would've snickered at calling any time in November "Autumn" in anything but the most technical sense. For us, that was the beginning of winter, and bordering on the part of it you want to hibernate through. Which is why I moved south at 18. :P November here is usually much more Autumnal. Though winter is still not my idea of fun.
I'm still up here lol... It seems to be getting even more weird as time goes on. growing up in chicago, autumn was my favorite season. i really do think that chicago autumns are beautiful. also, halloween is my favorite holiday & thanksgiving is a close second, so i've always loved autumn.
I live in southern Ohio and I’ve always loved fall. I guess having a fall birthday (right before Thanksgiving) may have contributed to making fall my favorite season.
That’s when mine is too. I like it now, but I hated it as a kid. I was jealous of kids with summer birthdays who never had school (or friends with conflicting thanksgiving plans) on their birthday. I also hated fall because it was at least half a year from the school year ending.
Me too! Mid-October in my case. I would've loved fall anyway, since in addition to being a break from the heat and/or humidity, it's so PRETTY, it's got the best atmosphere, we've got freakin' HALLOWEEN, fallish smells and foods and I swear just the air itself _feels_ different from summer. It just feels freer and easier to move and breathe in every way. Fall is just the best season ever. :)

Just got back from a trip to England. Was shocked at how bundled up the British were in London on a perfectly wonderful 60 degrees. People wearing their puffy coats!! Practically room temperature!
Ahhh... Autumn. It is the beginning of the party season especially in my family growing up. My birthday is in September, my mom's birthday is October 31st and my youngest sister birthday was November 16th. Those and Halloween, Thanksgiving, All Saints Day, Christmas and New Year's Day etc make for a vibrant party scene. North Texas basically does have two seasons and it's not prime real estate for leaf peeping. We have a saying "There's nothing between the North Pole and Texas but barb wire fences" You and terror have a lovely Halloween.
Same in our family, all 3 of us kids bdays in Sept/Oct, and both niece and nephew in Oct and Dec. It's awesome once fall hits. Not only the beginning of the holiday seasons, but beautiful colors and nicer cooler weather.
My Autumn favorites: A big mug of hot spiced cider, a roaring fire, roasting hot dogs, later making smores, and listing to the sound of night coming as the stars twinkle in the clear cold night sky. The freshly painted abundant colors of the leaves as each day the pallet becomes more brilliant, expanding in shades and highlights. Taking a walk through a path of leaves and enjoying the crunch of the fallen leaves beneath my feet. Exhaling and seeing the cloud of my breath hang in the air and the cold sting my lungs.
The autumn leaves were absolutely gorgeous in Pennsylvania this year. I revel in the glorious beauty of it all. Small moments in life are everything. Enjoying your videos and your interesting perspective.
I moved to Michigan September of ‘08. I’d been told winters their were mild. It started snowing on Halloween and didn’t stop until May. Hip deep and -22 in February. It was the worst winter the mid-west experienced in 30yrs. I moved to Kauai that June.
Here in North Carolina we seldom have snow, and there's so little of it that people don't even bother shoveling their sidewalk or scraping off their windshield. They just wait until a day or two after the storm, by which time the snow is all gone. It's foolish to drive in or after a snow, because the people here drive the same on ice as on a summer day and there are car crashes galore.
Growing up on SE Wisconsin Fall weather varied as well. I remember wearing my Cinderella costume over a snow suit and boots when I was 5. We also had warm Halloweens where you didn't even need a sweater to keep warm out trick or treating
That was the Global warming. The same thing could happen in the Boston area. It was Indian Summer up until today when we started out at 0 c. Or 32 f. The weather always seemed to flip right after Halloween.
I've always loved autumn. Everything about it is special to me, from the Halloween decorations to the leaves to going out to throw the football while waiting for Thanksgiving dinner, the first visible breath of the year... just love it, and this video made me think of all if it, so thank you.

So amazing to hear Sweden enjoys Halloween as well. ❤️ Autumn in the US where I live is glorious, and Halloween is always so much fun for the kids….it’s one of my favorite holidays. Having twins I always made fun and ridiculously cute costumes and had photographs done up until recently when they started picking their own costumes (scary and not so cute…lol). It’s a big block party here, all the neighbors rotate and meet in a cul-de-sac and go trick or treating together….old and young are out. The video is certainly correct and my husband has always said the same exact thing……it’s one big party from autumn through New Years here. It’s Sunday and we just finished up a weekend of multiple activities we were invited too with the kids…fire pit marshmallow roast, a haunted trail walk, old antique car rides for kids, and an afternoon costume party……and we STILL have Halloween to go tomorrow….ah…. I am not even a big party socializer, so I am finally kicking up my feet and see this video about all the parties this time of year……this Brit understands the US for sure.🤣 Happy Halloween to all the little ghouls in Sweden! 🎃🎃🎃🎃

My mom and her guy throw away almost anything they're not using at the moment. "I'll buy another if I need it again." How about donating it? (Offended) "I don't have time doing nonsense like that!" This happened when I saw her beautiful unused bed spread in the trash can. The man puts poison down for everything, including lizards who eat the bugs.

This has been the best autumn we’ve had in years due to the colder temps at night and just the right amount of rain, or no rain. Super beautiful!
We had the same situation in upstate NY, the colors were vibrant.
Fall rain is jusy the best
Kicking up leaves and the fragrance...the best part of Autumn.
The smell of chimney smoke in the distance the colors and yes the smell of fresh fallen leaves
@@RedMatthew I love the amber-gray skies in the evening.
Kicking up a hidden dogshit.
Absolutely loved this one Lawrence !!
Best production episode yet!
I grew up in the midwest and I still miss having four actual seasons of the year. Fall is absolutely the best one.
Uhg..
I am from the Pacific northwest and I love colder (below 30° F.) 🥶 💙
I received a job offer in Thailand. The prospect of only 1 season, summer, didn't thrill me.
@@Blondie42 😂 I definitely understand that. High heat and humidity is the worst, in my opinion. No amount of A/C can make up for it, either.
@@Blondie42 I would have said hell no also. Heat and humidity together is SO miserable, and to have it 24/7 would be a total nightmare!
@@Blondie42 - And don’t forget southeast Asia’s “rainy season”. Oh joy. 🎃
This was so creative and imaginative. Loved it! 👹
Are you having shrooms with that pumpkin spice latte, Lawrence? Excellent video!
Same in eastern Montana, although the negative 20s to negative 30s don't usually stay until January, so November is the nice part of winter n.
I'm still up here lol... It seems to be getting even more weird as time goes on. We've been going from 80 to 20 in about 24 hours, yesterday night it was in the teens, and tomorrow it's going to be around 60! Temperature whiplash 🥵🥶🥵🥶 All the tamarack have lost their needles in a wind storm that used to not happen very much before either.
From NE Minnesota and I concur. When the “first day of winter” rolls around in December it’s like “meh”. We’ve been doing winter for at least a month and a half.
Ahhh to think winter doesnt begin until just before Christmas.
@@katiesoderling3596 Winter begins around Halloween (except this year so far lol) and lasts till Valentine's day! That's a bit much, but I was born up here (NE MN too) and have just come to expect it and sometimes even enjoy it. 🙂
Being a German Born girl and raised in Indiana it was really nice to see photos of Indy. Thank you for sharing this and with all good hope you've adjusted to American winters with "quiet dignity and grace" :-P
growing up in chicago, autumn was my favorite season. i really do think that chicago autumns are beautiful. also, halloween is my favorite holiday & thanksgiving is a close second, so i've always loved autumn.
Hey
I live in southern Ohio and I’ve always loved fall. I guess having a fall birthday (right before Thanksgiving) may have contributed to making fall my favorite season.
My birthday always falls on the week of Thanksgiving! Shout out to a fellow Sagittarius! [or Scorpio]
@@sundaygraphic8576 Scorpio, my birthday’s the 21st. My birthday gets as close as the day before Thanksgiving.
Shout out to all my fellow middle children neglected just like how Lawrence was to Autumn. 🍂
thanks... I'm one of two middle children, 3rd/6, double the neglect 🥴
But middles are _so cool_ ! Simultaneously an elder sibling _and_ a younger sibling.
Don't feel too bad, us only children are just as neglected when we are unwanted
Thanks! I always enjoy your videos and thoughts on America‼️ The wig was interesting to say the least ‼️ I wish we had the vibrant colors that you do in Chicago. Thank you for sharing the beautiful foliage 🍁🍂🍁🍂👍🏻🫶🏼
Always love the humor in your videos, but this one takes it up a notch. Thoroughly delightful. Especially the PSL references. Well done!
I've been watching you for a while. This was your best video so far!
We have a saying "There's nothing between the North Pole and Texas but barb wire fences"
You and terror have a lovely Halloween.
Same in our family, all 3 of us kids bdays in Sept/Oct, and both niece and nephew in Oct and Dec. It's awesome once fall hits. Not only the beginning of the holiday seasons, but beautiful colors and nicer cooler weather.
Love your videos and this is great with your sense of humor thrown in.
Bizarre and Brilliant at the same time. Thanks Lawrence and Wonder Wife for just the lift (not elevator) I needed this morning.
Beautifully done👍...thank you.
I love our midwest autumns. They make the winter pass easier. Thanks for this great video, very poetic.
1:45 "woooh laurence" lmao makes me crack up every time. i love it
The autumn leaves were absolutely gorgeous in Pennsylvania this year. I revel in the glorious beauty of it all. Small moments in life are everything. Enjoying your videos and your interesting perspective.
In Michigan we celebrate Fall with a visit to a cider mill for fresh cider and doughnuts.
'Young Laurence' is bloody hilarious 😂 Mr Miyagi would be proud 😅 Cheers from Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺
I moved to Michigan September of ‘08. I’d been told winters their were mild. It started snowing on Halloween and didn’t stop until May. Hip deep and -22 in February. It was the worst winter the mid-west experienced in 30yrs. I moved to Kauai that June.
Omigosh. Who lied to you about Michigan winters?? lol
😂 That was such a dishonest lie.
That’s kind of extreme. I like it ❄️🌞
Well, that is kinda mild for the UP.
This was one of your absolute best! Thank you.
I didn't expect that change toward the end. the "appreciate the improvements to my face" had me laughing so hard. I'm 💀💀💀
This is probably my favorite video that you made. It was great. Love your humor.
Hey
Growing up on SE Wisconsin Fall weather varied as well. I remember wearing my Cinderella costume over a snow suit and boots when I was 5. We also had warm Halloweens where you didn't even need a sweater to keep warm out trick or treating
That was the Global warming. The same thing could happen in the Boston area. It was Indian Summer up until today when we started out at 0 c. Or 32 f. The weather always seemed to flip right after Halloween.
@@rbspider we've had 70s this week here in Rhody. I joked with a friend from Scotland who was visiting that she brought the sunshine with her
I've always loved autumn. Everything about it is special to me, from the Halloween decorations to the leaves to going out to throw the football while waiting for Thanksgiving dinner, the first visible breath of the year... just love it, and this video made me think of all if it, so thank you.
A very well conceived, written, & produced piece. Take an extra tenner out of petty cash for your efforts.
Outstanding video Laurence! Especially the shots of you outstanding in the brisk Autumn air.
That went off the deep end….which is awesome 😎 Glad you learned to appreciate autumn here…it’s truly quite special 🎃
Definitely one of my favorite videos of yours.
I LOVE LOVE LOVE the retro flashbacks about your former self with your wife.
Absolutely brilliant.
This is better than anything on SNL in decades.
Laurence, you are upping your game.
Brilliant.
I grew up in Michigan and my favorite seasons are fall/winter.
I like spring/summer too, but I was born in one of the biggest blizzards in the Midwest in January 1978,
and attribute my love of cold weather and snow to this event. I was birthed in a blizzard!
And, I hate humidity and sweating and being hot.
Thank you for your awesome content. You really knocked it out of the park with this one!
Loved it!! And this year's autumn has been particularly breathtaking. Welcome to the love of Chicago's autumn, my favorite time of year. :) *raising a glass of apple cider in your general direction*
Thank you for sharing with us the humor of your people.
This might be your magnum opus. Seriously great video. Happy Halloween to you and the missus!
I'm so happy and excited to see all of the Dr Who kitch in your clothes and home, Laurence :) Hello from a fellow Whovian!
Okay gotta say I’m really enjoying the artistic composition of these videos lately, with the various cuts. My ADHD brain enjoys it very much! Though don’t feel obligated to overperform and burn out ❤
This one's my vote for your best video ever. Very creative and funny.
Thank you for your outdoor videos of Chicago, my hometown. After three years, my husband I were finally able to visit my beloved city. Thanks! ❤

Your videos just keep getting better and better, sir...happy autumn !!!
This video is a work of art.
Thank you!
I grew up in Michigan, of the gorgeous glowing fall leaves, but live now in Omaha, of the going from being in the 90°s to the leaves going straight from green to brown, while it stays in the 70°s until it goes straight down to 20° and the wind flaying the skin off your face. I will move home soon, and enjoy an actual fall again! And I love your TARDIS tea set, so beautiful...
Yeah. That little tea pot holds 20 gallons.
We've had a beautiful autumn in the northeast despite drought conditions. Really vibrant colors this year! Enjoy your pumpkin spice soufflé while you can. Lol! Winter will be here before you know it!
I'm glad you have changed your mind about autumn/fall. Of course, now you know you've jinxed it and next year it's going to be 30 degrees on Oct 20 thru Nov 27, when it starts to snow... Just enjoy the lovely weather while you can!
And - HAPPY HOLIDAYS - ALL OF THEM!!!
I loved this! You just get better and better. You saved my weekend.

Very few videos make me actually LOL so many times. Thank you for the autumnal chuckles, Lawrence.
It may be hard to believe now but growing up in the 60’s I never encountered pumpkin spice. Apple cider was the fall flavor, pumpkin didn’t show up until pie at Thanksgiving.
Tbh i dont even remember it appearing until after 2010, i was born in 2001 and dont remember pumpkin spice being a thing in my childhood either. Cant complain tho it is really good, so is apple cider, tho where i am that can be all seasons
This was a great video! Fall is my favorite season and my birthday is in November too! I loved the music for this video. It sounded like your composition. Hope you and your wife enjoy the Fall season.
This was instructional. I grew up in Missouri. Like Indiana, we have disgustingly humid summers and ball freezing winters. It hadn’t occurred to me until now that those bookends might be why we celebrate fall, as we call it out our way. Thanks.
Living in a place (in my case Sweden) where you get to experience all the seasons (autumn in particular!) is a gift. I was in Tanzania for two months in ‘96, and that made me appreciate my country’s four seasons even more.
When I was younger autumn was the ONLY season I really loved😂 and now I see the beauty in all of them.
Very creative video!
Also, thank you America for bringing Halloween to us (or letting us steal the concept…). One of the more appreciated imports from you guys!
I am not even a big party socializer, so I am finally kicking up my feet and see this video about all the parties this time of year……this Brit understands the US for sure.🤣
Happy Halloween to all the little ghouls in Sweden! 🎃🎃🎃🎃
@@ashdav9980 haha it really sounds like you go all in over there! We’re not at THAT level😂 so I can only imagine.

Wow.That's nice to hear. Do the kids over there say "Trick or Treat" in Swedish or an equivalent when they knock on the doors for sweets?
@@antoniahamilton3201 yes they do. We’ve translated it to Swedish (bus eller godis - which pretty much is a direct translation of the English words) lol ☺️
This was so well done! From beautiful to funny, this may be my favorite! Awesome!
Happy birthday whenever you want it. I am happy you were born and became the awesome person you are. Hugs from Missouri.
Growing up in the Pacific Northwest, in the foothills about 30 miles from Seattle, our autumn typically began in early to mid October, at which point it would drizzle cold rain for approximately 6 months. Followed by spring, where it drizzled slightly warmer rain for another 3 months, after which we had about 3 months of the most glorious summer you could ever imagine!
The rainy season in Seattle is 1 January to 31 December.
I have just moved from the Midwest (Kentucky actually) to Florida of all places! I am missing my favorite season for the first time & it is a sad state of affairs! It doesn't exist here! I have decided that all future vacations will occur in October. Brown County, Indiana will be perfect. Thank you, Lawrence!
That drink will now forever be known as the Pumpkin Fried Soufflé.
I lived in Colorado for 40 years. Growing up I loved spring as it meant winter had passed. Maturity brought me to Fall (Autumn) for the clear skies, mild days and cool nights. The green Pines and golden Aspen leaves were heaven. The eternal spring to warm summers lead to natures fireworks.
You always make me laugh especially when I need it!😂🤣🍁🍂 Thanks Laurence!👍
