There were so many tear-jerking shows from PIW groups this year, but Rhythm X... I personally think they could've done their show at either piano or fortissimo and everyone would still love it. With all the running and notes on the floor, these guys had an 11/10 season.
For those of you who are curious what i used to shoot this // Body: Sony A7iii // Lens: Sony 70-200mm f2.8 GM // Mic: Rode Stereo Vidmic Pro // All strapped on to a monopod
R-X and Dartmouth were my favorite two shows. (online, not there in person)I heard What is Hip, and Channel 1 Suite, only saw it one time so now looking forward to repeat views. This is an amazing show!
I thought this show was too busy in my opinion but I really liked pulse and rcc’s shows because there’s always a couple of shows for me that I can listen to throughout and still get the message and I didn’t really get the music with the theme tbh
See, when you're watching Rhythm X's newer shows, you really have to stop and ask yourself: Is this show as good as 2009? And the answer will *always* be no. TOUCH FOREVER
Imagine getting contracted for vibes to have the opening feature played by the marimbas, the following feature played by the bass drums, the solo played by a snare drum, and most of your time is spent pushing your board around the floor and playing about a minute's worth of music total.
Wow...I'm an old guy who started playing in the 1980's...played just long enough to play with my universities first indoor percussion ensemble. I gotta say the stuff they're doing now is AMAZING. maybe....just maybe, a little overkill on some things but the level of talent is crazy. glad to see kids still drumming. (and keyboarding...and guitaring...)
I really love this show and the energy it builds and just watching it you really just feel excitement which I didn’t get from RCC it was more of a message but the only thing I don’t like about this show is it feels like there are like 6 or 7 movement Thor things and everything else is just to distract you from moving things and to waste time overall love this show
Alot of talented young people taking this show to the edge.....WGI like DCI to the edge of extinction. I hope WGI has a contingency plan to save this for the next 10 years without increasing costs. after this pandemic. DCI went from 200 corps in 3 divisions to under 50 corps nationwide , some will not return in 2021 damn it. Some WGI programs may see the same fate.
Is it just me or does the first guitar solo where everyone is circling him sound like the guitar solo at the beginning of hot for teach by van Halen???
While I love the song selection that X had this year, I'm just not feeling this performance. Like some people have said, I find it to be disjointed. There are a few times where things connect and make sense, but I think that there wasn't the proper amount of moderation of elements here. Drum set was featured prominently and field percussion wasn't as much, especially as one unit and instead more as separate entities. This isn't a bad thing normally, but the way this was done here didn't contribute too much to the overall performance. Everyone has an immense amount of chops and talent, and I respect WGI and DCI, but I just can't bring myself to like this performance. I'm sorry if I happen to piss people off here.
Resident sleeper? What does that even mean? This show is a one dimensional rock show. You can't compare this to RCC's multi dimensional and contextual masterpiece that makes you feel something more than just happy to rock out. Anyone can rock out, it's takes special designers and performers to put out what RCC does.
"Multi dimensional and contextual", you just mean that they left it broad on purpose so that people would think that. Literally RCC's show was just appreciation for the arts.jpg, that was really all there was to it.
Rhythm X director: What instruments are we gonna have?
Show Designers: *Y E S*
Instablaster...
“You want to play snare? No, you get to play vibes, cymbals, and electric guitar”
Lmao fr
I'm actually good friends with the Electric Guitar player, lol. Unfortunately, as far as I know, he doesn't march with the group anymore.
vibes are sooooo fun to play tho
I could watch this show a thousand times and still miss some things...
It's nice to see that a show is actually entertaining outside of understanding the sport.
Sport????😂
Most shows: Front ensemble
Some shows: back ensemble

MrPiklez oh lawf
I feel like all of those vibes got abused during this performance
how is this not a Will Ferrell and John C Reilly film already? This is Gold

ok having What is Hip, and YYZ was an amazing idea
The hypest lot of the season thumbs up yea👌👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥
Makes me think of if the Blue Devils Colorguard learned to play percussion and tried to perform Matrix’s Rock Star show...
Great video! Your new camera looks crazy good!
YYZ in a WGI show might be it, RIP Neil
That yyz though
So how many extra hihats would you like set up?
Show directors: yes
imagine rolling up to the first camp thinking you were auditioning for marimba and you end up in an interpretive dance competition for the spot lmao

This has got to be on of the best closers in WGI PIW history.

Phoenix Wright true
I completely agree
100%
R-X 2010 perhaps?
Haha, loved that this show used What is Hip? at 1:11. Only reason I knew was because I played the same for RCC's 30 Years of Excellence show.
3:30 bells play "It's my dick in a box" song from SNL-- these people are truly legends
haha yes, 50 ways to leave your lover. instantly could tell by the little drum set solo at the beginning
Imagine getting contracted for vibes to have the opening feature played by the marimbas, the following feature played by the bass drums, the solo played by a snare drum, and most of your time is spent pushing your board around the floor and playing about a minute's worth of music total.
An amazing show, but this was totally RCCs year, hopefully next year RX will build on this and get gold
This show is like millennial humor. surreal, dark, and completely meaningless. Yet it is still entertaining...
Wow...I'm an old guy who started playing in the 1980's...played just long enough to play with my universities first indoor percussion ensemble. It had to have been the most epic feeling to be the kit player at the end
this is the funniest wgi show of all time
i feel like a traitor just watching this
So much energy. Holy cow.
Bless you for this footage

When I heard them play Van Halen and Rush’s XYZ I was like holy fucking shit
Best bass line this year
This made me recognize music more and how cool the vibes are. Too bad im not good at mallets and im marching snare. Peep that dank ass guitar player
They performed at one of my school competitions it was really cool
This has to be one of the best WGI shows I’ve ever seen

"It's just a stick toss for pete's sake"
Nooowww this is what am talking about!!!!!!!!!
2:13 Trevor looks like he's just having a good time
3:56 Don't mind me just marking this for later
Is it me or does the guy who caught the stick while standing on the vibe look like Matt Damon? Like it can't just be me right?
6:14 the face ryan ellis makes when he knows he ate
I liked this show better than this year, sorry not sorry
Great show!
Almost 8 minutes of straight RAM.

It is!
50 ways to leave your lover (Paul Simon), What is Hip? (Tower of Power -Freelancers Off the Line in 1984)

Ben Michalowicz yea i agree with the unity, it’s literally just a jumble of music pieces put together. None the less it was one hell of a performance
I like the show and everything, but compared to RCC’s it just seems like a whole lot of nonsense with nowhere to go. But don’t get me wrong great show
so fresh
How did RCC win when their show was so resident sleeper
Resident sleeper? What does that even mean? This show is a one dimensional rock show. You can't compare this to RCC's multi dimensional and contextual masterpiece that makes you feel something more than just happy to rock out. Devon Montgomery It’s still resident sleeper

Luke Bowar haha no Rcc’s show was about how rcc is changing the game In wgi, the show was about themselves.
You can’t win with Shakespeare
Never.
