This is why baseball is so much more exciting to watch than football. The plate and mound are 60 feet apart. A baseball traveling at 95 mph traverses that distance in 0.43 seconds. In that span of time the batter must pick up the ball as it leaves the pitcher's hand, predict where the ball will be when it reaches the plate and swing the bat, which is slightly smaller in diameter than the ball, and make contact. It is amazing that anyone ever gets wood on the ball.
Well said! Hitting a round ball with a round bat and hitting it "square" is one of the most difficult things to do. Especially when you have less than half a second for your hand/eye coordination to get it done.
0:47 Great play, but let's be real, the first baseman had two options with the line drive smoked at him. Option 1: make the play. Option 2: die of blunt force trauma from a baseball. Good for him for choosing option 1.
I believe that is incorrect I believe the rule states that if the in Fielder can make a reasonable play on the pop-up. The standard is usually if the infielder is running away from the batter with his back to the infield it is not a reasonable play for an infielder. But I did not see anything in the rule book that states he must be standing on dirt.
Here's one of the best defensive plays I've seen as a plate umpire. Was doing a Big League game many years ago. Runner on third, less than two outs. Fly ball to center field. I'd say it was a good 180 feet from the plate. CF catches the ball, runner tags and runs for the plate. The catcher literally put his catcher's mitt on the ground in front of the plate (3rd base side of the plate). The catcher didn't move his mitt except to close it. It literally went straight into the pocket without moving his mitt. I can still see the runners foot sliding in to the mitt. Beat him by an inch or so. Catcher closes the mitt, runner is out. For the next couple innings the runner would pace back and forth in the dugout saying he was safe. He should have been safe, except for a literally perfect throw.
I am so confused by it too because it seemingly had the same outcome whether or not he did the drop trick or not. The only thing I can think (if it was on purpose to drop it) is that they wanted to have a slower runner on first base instead of a faster runner. But I don’t even know the players and if that’s a true statement about their speed lol. Only other thing is a potential double play opportunity.
I would like to see Major League Baseball change the rule on allowing an infielder to purposely not catch a ball under unsportsmanlike conduct. They have that for lots of other plays where the player is violating the spirit of the rule or the game.
Every one of your highlight videos is missing the SF Giants’ Kevin Mitchell over the head barehanded catch in Left Field. I don’t remember who they were playing but they were the visitors.
At 5:15 an umpire seems to penalise a 2nd baseman for "intentionally " not catching the ball, I imagine the 2nd baseman was going for a double play. HERE IS MY PROBLEM. I'm Australian and don't know enough about baseball, except I love watching the game. Is it illegal or smart baseball, playing a sequence that results in better outcome for your team or is the catch for only a single out more sportsman like or in accordance with the "spirit", of the game ? I personally think that allowing the ball to fall to the ground, or even be helped to the ground by the fielder, to achieve a "double", should be encouraged and certainly NEVER penalised. (I can hear you all telling me to "shut-up" and "stay away from our baseball") . I sincerely mean no disrespect. It's just Interesting. Thanks for the great channel. Bob. Australia.
In baseball, there is what is called the "Infield fly rule" - where basically, if it's a playable fly ball in the infield, and runners are forced to advance, the batter is called out automatically whether or not the fielder catches it. There's a few more examples in this package, where it should've been called, and wasn't - and so defenders end up making bush league double plays.
It appears that many of these players don't have a clue about "infield fly rule". If the umpire raises his fist on a batted ball, the batter is automatically out and the runners run at his own risk.
Anyone else think it's really dirty, even though it's in the rules, for an infielder to intentionally drop the ball or refuse to catch the ball, allowing him to double up the team at bat.
I'm watching these young men making these great plays, but I've never seen any of them doing a celebration like " nfl/ncaa players" do after just about every play.
The most memorable nfl dance I saw was while watching the game live on tv. An interception happened. Three black rectifiers acted like cops, padded down the black player who intercepted the ball. Put his hands behind his back and lead him away. I guess they took him away for burglary? They never showed that on any NFL news shows. It was great. They put some thought into that.
I've been umpiringfor 35 years in high school, I don't pretend I am some Elite official, how was that not an infield fly rule, when the batter swung and checked his swing, which is not a bunt attempt, and the ball clearly took a vertical plane
Does anyone else find it ridiculous to think that was an amazing defensive Play When a ball Ricochet is off of a player's back and then goes 20 ft in the air and all you have to do is take four steps and catch it
Sorry to do this but this drives me INSANE… It’s just ‘rarest’ not most rarest lol. If you HAVE to add, ‘most’ then you don’t put ‘rarest’… should look like this: ‘Rarest def. Plays’ Or ‘Most rare def plays’ (though this is pretty poor English… first is better..)
There are thousands of great plays to choose from, so I'm guessing it's not easy to choose, and even worse, if you try to please everyone. Never gonna happen, that latter one. Had a few good Crawford one's, but he's a highlight reel too. Just wish there was more of Arenado. One didn't do him justice... Just like the damn Rockies- a team which, after the Helton era passed, sabotaged themselves over & over again. Watching them continuously dump World Series talent, not making the effort when the team is on the verge of winning it all, (or maybe just to baseball illiterate? Nah, they just didn't want to do it), they've just been a train wreck to watch the past 10 years. The needed was always the same; Closers. They didn't care, and it cost us. And it was disgustingly unfair to the players, who I personally watched giving their all for the club. Just like my other team, the Giants. Ripped for not being a "big ball" club, made fun of & ridiculed, they were a TEAM- and management CARED. They DID go out and shore up any tiny weak spots, and it showed. Time & again. World Series after World Series. The Rockies, did not. What I think really happened? There was probably some lowbie.. say one of the coaches or someone similar, maybe the janitor, (because most of us KNEW what was needed), who told them EXACTLY what was needed- and that just flamed the Owners hide. So that's EXACTLY what they DIDN'T get. Like bringing in San Diego manager Bud Black. Nice man. Terrible manager. Always has been. Boy did I go off on the Rockies Facebook page back in 2017, wrote to them, and had to slap-back the ignorant, who cheered his hiring, while they let go of the man who BUILT the Rockies into the contender they'd become. MAKE NO DAMN MISTAKE- They Rockies were on the verge of winning a World Series. It took this asinine move, to destroy what Walt Weiss had built. HE had the right formula, but it takes time to CREATE a WINNER. And boy did he. Remember in that movie "Major League", when that moron woman tried to do all she could to sabotage the Cleveland Indians? It was kinda like that- except, they stopped at NOTHING to make it happen here. And so they have. The Rockies are now the joke I told ALL they'd become. All the great talent has moved on to FAR better things, save a couple of very good men, who actually care about the FANS, and knew their time in baseball was nearing it's end. Good men. And then WOKE hit this moronic team, as well. I know this was coming, too. Stopped watching baseball all together, years ago. It's an AMERICAN GAME. Our great past time. And they've destroyed it. Every year, getting worse. They don't deserve our loyalty or support. Not until they find their "AMERICAN" again. So, for myself, I'm left with highlights from yesteryear, and appreciating great plays. But not from the past few years. Some are still good- but I don't know who many of these players are, nor if they are supporting this criminality destroying our sports, or not. So I enjoy just those plays, I DO know. Works for me. Because it has to. I love my country, above all else. What used to be the greatest nation on earth, UNITED, with ACTUAL love for their fellow man, and sports fans. There was no racism, save from the pathetic few- and they will ALWAYS exist. This criminal, evil media, just makes it SEEM there's some kind of systemic BS going on. There isn't. THEY help divide us, in order to destroy us, and bring in some insane "Utopian Empire", where they turn America, no, the whole world, into an EPSTEIN-type playground, for the extremely wealthy. I don't play that game. I play the AMERICAN game. Today, I spend my time trying to fight against this tyranny, and trying to find ways to get Americans to realize that this is OUR COUNTRY. That trash in Washington DC? WORKS FOR US. WE CONTROL THIS COUNTRY. THEY'RE trying to find ways to BRING IT DOWN, so that FREEDOM & LIBERTY are a thing of the past. How the hell would I KNOW this? I was recruited by this filth, to be a part of what they're doing, back in the late 70s, that's how. So I know exactly what's going on, and have been warning about it for over 40 years. But they've gotten all of YOU, to buy back in to these "American Past-times", which help us to escape from the grind of life. And this? Blinds people to the TRUTH of what's being ripped from your grasp, without y'all really knowing or caring- because you're just glad it's baseball season again, or football, or whatever. They just need to keep it up for a bit long- Then? They'll finally have all the POWER & CONTROL needed, to enslave us all. And when that day comes, and it comes very, very quickly? That day y'all realize your liberty & freedom have been stripped from you, completely, while y'all allowed them to do so? It will be far, far too late, to ever get it back again. They learned from the past mistakes of evil, how to never again lose, as those before them did. Look around you today, REALLY LOOK. If you're honest with yourselves? You'll have NO F'ING CLUE, what nation it is, in which you now reside. And this, should terrify all of you into action- but it won't. Because they've worn us all down & out, with so much chaos, that all people wish to do, is escape. So on they march... ever forward. Urinating & craping on the graves of those, who gave everything they had, and would ever have, so that we could all live in liberty & freedom, for generations to come... .. While we all allowed them to do, exactly this. This may not seem like the time & place for such a rant? But I'm pretty much censored everywhere I could still fight. So I do what I must. used to love baseball and was a hardcore fan for most of my 58 years until mlb went woke and let the sisters of perpetual what ever in. mlb is woke and DEAD just as is the nba and the nfl.

Great play, but let's be real, the first baseman had two options with the line drive smoked at him.
Option 1: make the play.
Option 2: die of blunt force trauma from a baseball.
Good for him for choosing option 1.
Even more than that, I'd say they were the mostest rarest plays.
¡Excelentes atrapadas! Muy bueno. Congratuleishions
Gracias
13:51 that double play may be in the top five double plays ever
2:45 the infield fly should have been called there.
Had to be in the infield
I believe that is incorrect I believe the rule states that if the in Fielder can make a reasonable play on the pop-up. More comments on proper English than comments on how much time it took to put all this together. GREAT JOB ! ❤ Love baseball highlights.
Personally I take great pride in writing and speaking English as well as I can. Apparently you do not.
Thank you for your kind words! I appreciate your feedback and love for baseball highlights. Keep enjoying the game!
Another excellent and rare play is The Catch by Willie Mays (1954 WS game 1)
3:15 That was a cute take on the hidden ball trick.. Most rarest? Are they more better?.
What a grab by catch on that hot shot to third.
Its the smile by Pena that gets me every time on Swisher.
is 😈
Bro it is
He had been waiting to do that for so long
This great plays defense baseball man
Here's one of the best defensive plays I've seen as a plate umpire. Was doing a Big League game many years ago. Runner on third, less than two outs. Fly ball to center field. 3:13 that was one of the most embarrassing baserunning mistakes I have ever seen
i'm just a filthy casual, and my opinion is invalid (probably)
but this video was a great watch. not too short, and not too long either. 10/10
23:25 AYO
1:32 Altuve's reaction at getting faked out 😆
can someone explain to me the significance of the choices on the play at 5:44 ?
I am so confused by it too because it seemingly had the same outcome whether or not he did the drop trick or not. because trout is a faster runner than pujols, they wanted to put the slower player on base instead
Half of these plays were a behind the back or a backhand throw from the Shortstop to second, then a throw to first for the double play.
Baseball has always been a Fun sport. No contact sport's are the most best.(Lol) ✌😁
"Most rarest?" Most Important. Most Impressive. NEVER most rarest. Where did you go to school?
I would like to see Major League Baseball change the rule on allowing an infielder to purposely not catch a ball under unsportsmanlike conduct. They have that for lots of other plays where the player is violating the spirit of the rule or the game.
Uhhh that’s called infield fly

Thanks bro i looking that plays for the next video
Cardinals/Ozzie Smith
I've seen a ball girl do that while climbing the wall.
this is why they get the big bucks for sure!!!
How is 2:47 not the IFF rule? And again at 3:30. Terrible umpiring.
Imagine if mlb players hustled and ran through first base when they hit the ball
I apparently don't understand the infield fly rule.
Same loool
The one with Colorado at 4:46 was accidental🤣
The one with Cubs at 5:31 was also accidental
the triple play
Most rarest? Are they more better?
Sorry for the criticism - There is no term "Most Rarest". Title would be better as: "Rarest Defensive Plays in Baseball".
“Most rarest”? Look up “Double Superlative”
At 5:15 an umpire seems to penalise a 2nd baseman for "intentionally " not catching the ball, I imagine the 2nd baseman was going for a double play.

@Frank Parker Jr.
Thank you Frank, for taking the time to explain.
Bob. Australia
Two of them were clear infield fly that was not called for some reason.
“Most rarest”? Is that term clickbait?
Was the foul tip that bounced off the catchers mask not a foul ball? I need to back and look, wouldn’t be an out unless there were two strikes.
Why is 4:46 not an infield fly rule?
Not a runner on 1st and 2nd or 1st 2nd and 3rd with less than 2 outs.
It appears that many of these players don't have a clue about "infield fly rule". If the umpire raises his fist on a batted ball, the batter is automatically out and the runners run at his own risk.
Why were so many of these in the last video too
Traducirlo en english: no me digan que ese es mi equipo favorito de Nicaragua en San Fernando porque yo ya conozco y luego es sf San Fernando😊
MOST rarest? Superlatives are self explanatory. Cheers....

Most Rarest? Har, har, har.....
The most amazing play I ever saw was Jeet gunning down the runner at the plate. What was he even doing on that side of the field?!
I don`t think the word "rarest" has any need to be qualified with the word "Most"
Good vid!!!
Thans for watching bro
😂😂
That catch by Renfroe doesn’t even look right. You shouldn’t be able to catch a ball like that lol
"Most Rarest" ? Where's the editor ?
Some people just can't help themselves
Shouldn't it be "most rarerest" defensive plays?

Who cares…?
Estrellas que iban a hacer ligas pero ya no puedo ya no Por lo tanto que ya no los quiero ver
John Lennon is correct. Use either Most Rare or Rarest but not both.
at 10:43 had the catcher not caught the ball the home plate ump could have called interference
Stop using 'Most Rarest'! Grammar!
What's so rare about these plays.
They would be “more better” if the players hitting the ball actually ran through first base and got thrown out. Most of them are basically jogging

There is no such thing as “most rarest”.
