Wikipedia says it was loosely based on "Death on the Nile". It looks like the issues that you'd run into on the C64 version if you played it through are that the game is perfectly willing to place you into a walking dead state, and that there's only one save. (For example, if you don't take proper notes, you can't replay the conversation, so you're stuck.)
Sorry to post something unrelated, but just wanted to say, I played a lot of Pixelships and Pixelships Retro when I was younger, still have the registration key in my old email somewhere. They were really fantastic and unique, great aesthetic, and did a better job of scratching the "collect and evolve" itch than Pokemon. I know that's not really what you do anymore, and I didn't come here to ask about it. Just looked you up on a whim and wanted to say thank you for all the great memories with those games, and I'm really glad to see you're still doing okay out there and pursuing what you love. All the best to you and yours.
Not that I don't have a solid idea for PixelShips 2 at the moment, I just lack the funding to make it happen as it's too large of an idea for me to make solo. My gamedev efforts only really take up about 10%~20% of the work I do each week now, but I am still working towards getting more games out eventually! :B
@@Pixelmusement If it comes one day I'll surely grab it, but whether or not it ever happens I'm just happy to see you still doing your thing man, after so many creators from that time just faded into the ether. The channel's great and I hope it's fulfilling work!
Looks like a neat adventure game. Too bad that, judging by the comments, you can easily screw yourself doing a wrong thing. Than again, it is not unusual for old adventure games, as far as I know.
To quote Joey Tribbiani: "Monday, one day. Tuesday, two-day. Wednesday. Huh? What day? Thursday - The THIRD day!" ;P
Apparently, this game came out in Japan for the Famicom and MSX2, and was considered a kusoge.

I dig the cursive use for the notetaking, nice touch.

Murder on the Pixelmusement Channel
This seems like a great little game. Impressive as well for c64.
I saw RNDStranger play the Famicom version and believe it or not, it’s even harder there as there’s death traps that kill you instantly.
Gotta put at least some Japanese features into the game somehow for the release on that platform!
The more surprising fact is there's a Famicom version.
an NO saves. 😂 It's pretty legendary in Japan for being a first rate "クソゲ" (kusoge, shitty game). Simply had to buy it.
This game looks awesome!! Came out in 1986?? Makes it even cooler, it's so advanced and smooth
Today on Pixelmusement, ONE TRUTH PREVAILS!
"Never trust a man who quotes the bible." is a _very_ good piece of advice to live by.
Played this on an Apple IIe. Fuck that loose board!
For future reference, "Raleigh" is pronounced "Rah-lee" not "Ray-lay"
I'm not an alcoholic, I'm a carouser!
In some ways that'll be an even worse excuse at your DUI trial. ;)
Fun game and quite polished for 1986. Seems like it could've benefited considerably from less cliched writing, though.
The only ship I know named Mississippi was a battleship not a riverboat.
Was there just... one mississipi, two mississipi, three mississippi....
I double-checked and there were LOTS of different ships with the name, most of which were military ships. :P
Man, Regis is a little freak huh
Love this game so much

Waiting for a snag to pop up..
