- Barney, Peter and the gang (no Gillian!) perform temptation live at Finsbury Park in London back in 2002. Great live show. Video gleaned from the DVD New Order 511, which is worth checking out, if you've never seen it. -NA
Quite honestly this song is a masterpiece.
Is their a better song by New Order?Let me know

Yes it is!!!
The ONLY single of theirs that I bought. Forget blue Monday. This was the one
I listen to this track multiple times daily. It never gets old.
All four original musicians had such great talent. Such a shame about this Hooky/Bernard feud.
Agreed
lmao and smh. there ARE others out there..
its the equivalent of a daily prayer is suppose except much more fun.
Never gets old. Just gets better.
I hear you my freind
In 1987 my best mate was in the next room from my wife and I and he was playing New Order. (which he did over and over again)
I walked into his room and he was laying on the floor having and over dose.
Without going into too many details, he died in my arms a little while later while New Order was still playing.
I was 17 years old then and I am now 50 and when ever I hear New Order I shed a tear and think of him.
RIP Arron. You gave away too many years.
Wow, that's quite a story. Thinking of you.
Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love Love... Endless. Since 40 Years. It's me, Dirk from Augsburg in Germany. The great New Order Fan in this World.

@@lymington.1996 Danke schön....
The most complete song of its era....me my bro and friends just bow down...and we are in our 60's......still bopping...😊😊
Simply the best Synth-Post-Punk track of all-time for me.
Peter Hook has the most beautiful, mournful singing angel of a bass . A true originator. Perfect accompaniment to the profoundly stoical vocal style. Much, much more than words can adequately express, is the sad, resigned feeling generated of time having now relentlessly left me behind. But I don't care any more. How the world has changed. New Order.
their magnum opus...apotheosis. Danced so many times to this over the last 33 years. Mostly with the lady who has been my wife for most of them. Great, great memories. Great, great song.
BigH0b0 - Came here 4 years later to say that’s awesome Cheer.
Their first truly great song

Along with Ceremony, I cannot overstate the life-affirming sheer magic of witnessing this song live. You can see me in this video during the "oh it’s the last time“ bit
No other band could ever get close ❤
Stephen Morris is like a well oiled machine. The man is a beast.
It's hard to believe that this show is now as old as the 1987 Substance album was at the time.
Schenectadont too real
now as old as low life was at the time
Fuck
@@KarlHamilton These songs are forever young..
Holy crap - I remember the record store near my house gave me all the promotional art for the release of Substance in 87 because the manager said no one would ever buy it so he was throwing it away anyway. I wish I still had it!
Does this song make anyone else cry happy tears?
One of my favourite tracks ever! Love it every time I hear it even now.
Makes one proud to be human when one sees this magnificence. Blessed art.
on my personal top 5 list of greatest drummers ever...
Gotta agree
LOL ... dude is doing the drummer equivalent of lip-synching, from what I can see ... that shit is all pre-programmed.
@@1994MX-6 Oh dear, you're obviously not familiar with Stephen Morris's work at all. I'm always amazed when people post comments for all the world to see when they have absolutely no idea what they're talking about.
@@legshakermaker1968 he's not doing half as much as he used to do. Live NYC 1981 the guy was a human drum machine
Ahhhh the look of glad of being alive..
UP DOWN TURN AROUND PLEASE DONT LET ME HIT THE GROUND
I was there. Magic moment where the three JD members were enjoying themselves.
,,Do you want Hooky to turn his bass down a little bit?"
Barney: ,,Yesss!"
Audience: ,,NOOOO!"
Hooky: Nods his head with a huge grin on his face, knowing exactly that everybody loves him and his unique bass sound.
That's so funny, this band is just great in every way.
One of the best live performances you'll ever see...
thanks to my smartphone i listen to this version everyday on my road back to home after work
My favorite song of all time, the joyous hypnotic prayer of all time! God Bless New Order for Eternity, the sound of heaven on Earth....cheers to Peter Hook, loved your book on JoyDivision and career.
Only bad thing about this track is that finishes!!!!!!!!!!
the 'banter' at the start is ominous.
Sumner is a bit of a cunt though
Nick Harman "do we want Ooki to turn his bass down a little bit"? Audience resounding NO!. I love it
yes even for a Mancunian he seems difficult and surly
Sumner is still shite on guitar after all this time. Hooky at least improved. Best version? NYC 1st time live
@@billypilgrim1 Let's be deadass, it's been forty years and they're still doing live shows.
Peter Hook taught the bass guitar to sing.
it's funny how the banter between bernard and peter at the beginning would have seemed meaningless at the time, but we can see now that there was probably a bit more tension there than one might have initially presumed.
kalgakas o
Strange remarks by Sumner apparently Hook never really liked him much though he fucking hates him now
I hear what you're saying .Bernard claims it's his song and tells Hooky to f*** off. Pete almost walks off stage. So sad since it's such a great performance and my fave track of all time
@@dermot51 they never liked each other much 😂😂 they grew up together as best mates even went to the same school
Terry Mason was Hooky's best mate not Barney there were personal clashes between them before and after Ian fucked off , read the book mate
one of the happiest songs ever written....many happy memories of this song
peter hook ,, the greatest bass player alive today .. and i used to live across the road from him ,, in little hulton salford in the republic of manchester .,
Nice one a truly innovative player and melody writer he WAS the sound of JD and NO
ONE of the greatest bass players around, then and now. There are still many others that were and are still great...
Oh, you've got green eyes, oh, you've got blue eyes, oh, you've got grey eyes
Oo, you've got green eyes, oh, you've got blue eyes, you've got grey eyes
And I've never seen anyone quite like you before
No, I've never met anyone quite like you before
A heaven, a gateway, a hope
Just like the feeling I need, it's no joke
And though it hurts me to see you this way
Betrayed by words i've never heard, too hard to say
Up, down, turn around
Please don't let me hit the ground
Tonight, I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home

Tonight, I think I'll walk alone
I'll find my soul as I go home
Each way I turn I know I'll always try
To break this circle that's been placed around me
From time to time I find I've lost some need
It was urgent to myself, I do believe

This song saved my soul
For some reason, I'd love to hear Bowie sing this song once. I think it would fit his voice perfectly.
+Lou Cypher Good catch. It is very Bowie-esque although it took you to bring that to my attention now it is clear as day.
Its too late
:(
Because this song sounds like "Heroes" from Bowie.
My friend Bowie could sing the phone book and make it good
It's the bass that hooks you
The best ever musical group of the 80' then of the 20th century , and even of our planet and all generations past, future and present...........
Peter Hook is magnificent - possibly the greatest, most original ever bass player - he plays like his base is the second vocal - but in the last four bars at the end he is bass god. What type of bass is he playing? It's so lush.
+Brian Jones Well said, it is an Eccelstone 335 semi-hollow with yamaha active electronics. A very unique instrument for a very uniqe man...
@@YonHASH Eccleshall, not Ecclestone.
Nobody could play the bass guitar like Hooky
Still does brother

this should have 1million comments& views! this is well and truly EPIC
5:52 always sends shivers down my spine.
that section is the best part of the song
this is THE best live gig video of all Finsbury Park = brilliant
This video should have 1M viewers!
I believe, Ian Curtis is dancing in heaven and listening to this.
It just doesn't get any better than this. Barney being arsey before the intro.... but what a song. New Order got me through the good times and bad times like no other band. Love em
Ya... they were pretty much fighting here already.
hooky plays bass in a stance like, yeah i'm a bad ass and Stephen plays drums like he's sleeping
Insane live performance of this New Order Epic Song...😎
Sumner and Hook both equally talented. Glad to see Hook seems happy and playing all of the music that he participated in making some of the very best.
Such a shame it ended the way it did. They all seem so happy here…
@@poddington
No, they weren’t.
Hooky was the captain of Joy Division but evolved into nothing more than a cheerleader for New Order. IMHO Sumner is the master talent and has been for a long while.

Mi generación , total ❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
When Bernard asks the audience should Hooky turn his bass down 🤔.. Start of the breakdown cus he really meant it... What a band, so sad they (Bernard /Hooky) not talking 😢
you noticed too. barney was always jealous of that low slinging, bass ripping, pirate known as HOOKY.
Timeless now more than ever with all the chaos
One of my absolute favorite bands. Sucks they can't get along. Most of them at least
Utterly marvellous
omg , 40 years ago but every time my song to 👍👍👍 great new order
The tension is palpable, unfortunately that's what makes it So Good 🤘
A masterpiece indeed. I think Stephen Morris, the drummer, Changed pop music. A genius.
At 8:42 Sumner is pissed! Hookie's bass too loud for him? He can't hide his frustration. Ironic because it may be one of the greatest performances of all time. Hook is a great bass player but the composition that Sumner created for the guitar here is profound.
this song really make me feel dancing insane, you really awesome NEW ORDER.
That was a quick nine minutes. So great!!
Just a wonderful video - I can't stop watching it - the relentless synth. backing loop - its so thumpingly beautiful - that guitar and bass are just soaring and harrowing. The superbly embellished continuous drum beat keep it uplifting and perfectly controlled throughout as well as Barney's unique startling, heartfelt singing and lyrics. Awesome. Thank you so much for putting this up. Oh, and its got so many just lovely parts throughout............
+Brian Jones bumpin' crowd, too...
exactly
Sacred 👍
This one is more fun, amusing and charming, than the edited, sanitized version, without the profanity, and hubris....humor! Perhaps my ALL TIME FAVORITE New Order song, and I love a lot of them, and JD too.
I really wish I could went to their live performance at least once..
I was there - it was magnificent - totally love gigs in Finsbury Park - weatherwise is was a bit rainy early in the day - but the weather cleared up nicely for the main act - New Order.
since 1986 the very first time I heard this masterpiece till today it brings me tears of joy😭 it is almost like a fallen angel seeking forgiveness for his temptation 💔
A M A Z I N G. This takes me back and makes me appreciate New Order all the more. I agree... these guys are REAL and truly talented. So glad I grew up listening to this. :)
