You forgot to mention that when you go for Galleys, you have to glue your screen to them, because the moment you take care of something else, they'll run into Fireships. Everytime.

I think you missed a part about where it is appropriate to use land units to fight against water units, so here it is:
    * When defending your "back water" on Islands adding in a few Rams to tank fire in the choke point close to the map edge is a way to gain an advantage (shoutout to Japanese Fishing Ships too).
    * Similarly on Cup (or other maps with 100% shallow water), you can use a mass of Halberdiers (which have bonus damage against ships - they about 5 or 6 shot fast fire ships) to regain control of the gold, if it is only ships blocking you. Add rams with your last gold, if the enemy has stone defenses.
    * Towers are bad against ships, unless the enemy has researched Heated Shot, then they're really strong (even more so with the other defensive university techs)
    * Castles are always strong, evade at all costs until they're gone even if you've got siege ships.
    * (Siege) Onagers can effectively area deny against a mass of ships, but won't be able to chase or do anything when micro'd against in a 1 on 1 or 5 on 2 fight. Evade Onagers when there's 3 or more.
    * Trebuchets might be used on maps where they can reach castles on the other side of a small "river". They're not good against ships, but they do one shot them. Focus them with siege ships, if you can (Galleys are bad though, because they only do 1 damage). Briton trebs (with Warwolf) will win an engagement for their side, if it was somewhat balanced or slightly unfavorable before.
    * Monks are okay against ships (they're actually good against singled out siege ships), but they're not very useful against a mass of them.
    * Other generic land units are bad (yes, even bombard cannons).

yes and no. It feels SOTL does more math stuff, while hera give smore player based tips and kind of full guide on more wide topic instead of SOTL's specific scopes. For example SOTL does extreme analysis with all math on farms. While hera give more things like - how do you micro your archers against opponent with or without ballistics.
      I love both TBH.

I think the reason you have one tech to upgrade 3 ships is because in the original game there was no fire galley and demo raft. Those were added in The Forgotten; so instead of making two new techs to upgrade the demo and fire line they just rolled it into the galley upgrade, probably to avoid upsetting the balance.

Agreed. Non-noob players use hotkeys to queue units, and the dock having 2 pages bothers me so much.
I know that there is also a hotkey for the next-page button, so it is just one additional button, but I hate it.
When a game gets intense and I try to produce a bunch of fire ships, sometimes I end up getting tons of transport ships.

I've been enjoying water maps lately and hybrid maps especially, there are civs that become more interesting on these maps like Vikings, Japanese, Italians, Byzantines etc. The only thing that I don't like is when you upgrade your arrow galleys they lose that sleek stacking and micro capability, it's enough that I sometimes delay the upgrade because there is a window in early castle age where they still feel pretty strong without the upgrade.

I like this video; but I wish it was easier to tell which videos on this channel are full matches with commentary, vs more instructional/educational videos like this one, where there is footage recorded specifically for it, and editing to break down the info more easily. This sort of stuff is my favorite content on this channel, since there’s a different channel for your gameplay :)

a little bit nit-picky but the fire ship projectiles ARE targeted but have an accuracy of 0% and missed shot get blocked by everything ;)
Also slight correction on the fishboom: a perfect Fishtrap with Gillnets is a Slav farmer with Hand Cart. and wood is easier to come by than food.
what was imho important information not in this video: villagers collect super fast from shore fish but Fishing Ships collect slower from shorefish are pretty fast from deep fish (but obviously more distance)

Even tho it is a water map. water controll sohuld not be as powerful like it is. When its literally won by mass production. in AOE 2 the land in the water maps is so narrow that once the opponent has surrounded u with ships. u cannot do anything.

All you need to know about water maps is... Don't play them! Aoe2 was originally going to be a land only game. They only added water as an afterthought to boost sales and it shows. Water fights always feel super awkward and clunky. It's the only part of the game which feels really dated, like it still feels like you're playing an old 90s game.

Djibouti is perhaps the most fascinating country in the modern world. It's really small, and if you put it over the United States it's actually still really small. But why does the majority of the population of this fascinating country live in the capital city, also named Djibouti. In fact, half of all Djiboutians live in this single area. Well the answer to my clickbait title and thumbnail that I will change later, is that the country is actually an inhospitable salt desert. And there is a fxking volcano in the middle, which is shxttty if you're trying to live. Now that the reason you clicked on this comment has been answered, I'm going to steal the next 30 minutes of your life to give you a sometimes well researched, if not a bit simplistic overview of this nations geopolitical landscape, its history and to be honest, whatever else I feel like talking about so I can extend the length of this comment. And don't worry, even though this comment is about Djibouti, I'll somehow figure out a way to talk about the Russian invasion of Ukraine, North Korea for some reason, and of course everyone's favorite Taiwan. Because, dear viewer, in church of Real Life Lore, this-this is our holy trinity, that we pray to when in need for content. But lets be honest we both know that as long as I keep this high quality stock footage rolling, this voice serious and monotone, you'll believe anything I say as I slowly hypnotize you with my high production quality and before you know it, 30 minutes of your concious experience will be mine forever, and you'll be injecting my exclusive nebula and curiosity stream videos directly into your bloodstream like the loyal viewer you are. Djibouti lies at the center of one of the most geographically important areas of the planet, only beaten by the worlds most important location, Bouvet Island, noted for its lack of league of legends and hearts of iron 4 players. Djibouti's unique geographic positioning in the horn of africa makes it a soft power wielding heavy weight in the region. It is vital to controlling the international flow of nebula and curiosity stream subscriptions, states all over the world, especially in europe are forced by geography to have an interest in the small strait that acts as a choke point for commerce. Even in Djibouti's local neighborhood, it's positioning is essential for its much larger, land locked neighbor Ethiopia, who relies on Djibouti for access to the sea so it can import curiosity stream subscriptions. No wonder then why so many nations have military bases in this small but critical part of the world. But if we're truly going to understand this topic with more depth, then we have to travel back in time to the initial western migration of turkic tribes from central asia to what we would call the middle east and beyond. These many different turkic tribes would go on to create empires and states of their own, but the one relevant to our story traveled all the way across central asia and established a medieval rump state of their own. Which, although was a small part of the larger turkish world, would go on to become the ottoman empire, a massive entity spanning 3 continents based in constantinople. But what lied ahead of constantinople was the european portion of the ottoman empire, and much of the population here were christians who didn't like being under the rule of the muslim turks. This would become a major source of unrest in the region, meanwhile the neighboring Russian empire would gradually see itself as the protector of christians subjects in the ottoman world. Especially as it viewed itself as the guardian of the orthodox church and the inheritor of the roman legacy of the fall of constantinople. But the conflict between these two political entities was not just a religious one, as despite what ideological or religious or moral high ground countries claim to have, the truth is states operate in whats good for their self interest. This is whats called Realkpolitiks, and if you've ever played a paradox multiplayer game. That is all to say, it is very simply in the interests of the russian empire to have control over the black sea and to expand its power into the balkans. The propaganda and narrative simply follow along to fit their goals. If we fast forward to today, Turkey is still putting its own interests above all else, even with its own allies in NATO, as it continues to create tensions with greece over the aegean sea and cyprus, meanwhile holding up holding up sweden from joining nato in the first place. And if we take a look at all of these big scary arrows on the map, we can see this is in spite of Russia's current occupation and invasion of parts of Uxkraine, which as sparked revival and expansion of nato, but even international outraged caused by the russian war in ukrxaine, is not enough to make turkey put aside its own interests and thats why natos biggest internal problem is turkey. Now, if you're wondering why I just gave a brief overview of turkish history and managed to name drop ukraine, and nato, and sweden, and russia, its not because i forgot the original topic was supposed to be, its actually because in year year 1542, the ottoman empire militarily aided the Adel sultanate, which held territory where today the modern state of djibouti is, and together they fought the portuguese and ethiopians in battle which had a significant impact on the history of djibouti, and the order to tell you that i had to give you the entire background of the turkish people, the ottoman empire, a bit of nato-ukraxaine and russia as historical context. But to truly understand djibouti on the world stage, we have to fast forward again to the modern day, where we can see 90% of djibouti's exports are youtube videos about geopolitics, and they're going mostly to china, and if you wanna know why, its because chairman xi jingpins nebula subscription has expired, causing massive economic collapse in the country, as without the constant stream of clickbait geopolitical content, suxicxide rates are rapidly increasing causing the population to fall. its estimated by 2050, chinas population could drop to 5 people in total, unless someone can afford to renew chairman xi's subscription and this is why china is shrinking fast. But there is one plan to save the chinese communist part, and that is because its been recently discovered that johnny harris is currently makin geopolitical youtube videos in taiwan, this gives the island of taiwan extreme value on the international stage because its estimated that if mainland china can reunify with the island, not only would its population maintain a healthy growth, but it would break the island chain led by the united states designed to keep the ccp isolated from the wider geopolitical youtube market. Willl china invade taiwan next? the answer is most likely,, because if you look at the map you'll see mulitple arrows pointing towards taiwan, and everyone knows the more arrows i put on the map, the more likely an invasion happens. And tbh, I can just keep doing this, I mean I could add so many arrows that are so beautifully animated that it won't even matter what the chinese communist party wants they'll simply be forced to invade. But if you really wanna know why the chinese peoples republic is so good at war, its because they have experience at it. I'm not talking about their military expansion into xinjiang or tibet, because those have always been historically apart of china, I'm talking about chinese intervention in the korean war to help the north koreans in their unification of the south. North korea while failing to unify the penisula because of the united nations intervention, also gained valuable combat experience and would go on to create the most militarized state in the world, and to be honest with you, idk how north korea is preparing to attack ukraine, but once again my puples, if we pay attention we'll see a high number of arrows in the thumbnail, which can mean only one thing. A glorious liberation on the shores of the black sea to expand north korea into ukraine, which will promptly be renamed to west korea. Did you catch that one viewer? lets look at the one more time but a little bit slower. Thats right, you thought i forgot about the point of the video again, but i didn't. Because as you can clearly see, the invasion path of north korea into west korea clearly passes djibouti's territorial waters. This goes to show how vital djibouti's geographic positioning turly truly is, even for a country as far away as north korea, they are totally reliant on the djiboutian government who controls this strait in order to facilitate their liberation of west korea. But there is something I've yet to mention, something that is the glorious central african empire which is set to invade djibouti at the time of this videos upload. This will have major geopolitical consequences around the world and you can learn about it in my modern conflicts series where I'm yapping for 50 minutes straight instead of yapping for 30 minutes straight..
